David Garrard had another efficient day as the Jaguars quarterback throwing for 214 yards on 18 of 30 passing. Garrard added 29 yards on 5 carries as well as a rushing touchdown. Garrard was held in check on deep passes by the Texans secondary. He had three completions of over 18 yards but the majority of his completed throws were under 10 yards.
RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Rush: 23 - 119 - 3, Rec: 4 - 28 - 0 (7 targets)
Maurice Jones-Drew, like Thomas Jones and Chris Johnson before him, gauged the Texans porous rush defense for 119 yards on 23 carries. Jones-Drew scored three touchdowns on the ground and added 4 catches for 28 yards (on 7 targets) for a game total of 147 yards. Jones-Drew was most effective up the middle and received all of the rushing work out of the backfield near the goalline.
WR Mike Sims-Walker, Rec: 6 - 81 - 0 (10 targets)
Mike Sims-Walker had 10 targets resulting in 6 receptions for 81 yards against the Texans. He was double-covered at times but still was able to make plays. His long reception was 28 yards. Sims-Walker also had a lost fumble.
WR Mike Thomas, Rush: 2 - 35 - 0, Rec: 1 - 10 - 0 (1 targets)
Mike Thomas had one reception for 10 yards against the Texans. He also added 35 yards on to rushes (long of 22) as the Jaguars worked to get the ball in to his hands. Thomas is currently the WR3 for Jacksonville. Thomas also returned two kicks for 18 yards with a long of 23 yards.
WR Torry Holt, Rec: 3 - 57 - 0 (7 targets)
Torry Holt had 3 receptions for 57 yards and 0 scores against the Texans. His long reception of 27 yards came when he was lined up to the outside in single-coverage. Holt appears to be the WR2 for Jacksonville but is the third option in the passing game behind Mike Simms-Walker and Maurice Jones-Drew.
TE Marcedes Lewis, Rec: 1 - 18 - 0 (2 targets)
Marcedes Lewis had 1 reception for 18 yards against the Texans. He was primarily used to block in the running game as Maurice Jones-Drew ran wild over the Texans defense. Lewis now has 7 receptions on 13 targets for the season.
Houston Texans
QB Matt Schaub, Pass: 26 - 35 - 300 - 3 TD / 1 INT, Rush: 1 - 5 - 0
Matt Schaub was again very effective for the second week in a row. Schaub had touchdown passes of 8, 1, and 18 yards and finished the day with 300 yards passing (26/35). Schaub spread the ball effectively and showed great poise in the pocket all game. He had one interception. His longest completion was for 25 yards to Andre Johnson but Schaub finished the game with 6 completions of 18 yards or more.
RB Steve Slaton, Rush: 12 - 76 - 0, Rec: 3 - 37 - 0 (3 targets)
Steve Slaton had his most productive game of the young season with 76 yards on 12 carries. Slaton added another 37 yards on 3 receptions (long of 22) to finish the day with 113 total yards. Slaton once again did not score a touchdown but did run well both between the tackles and up the middle.
RB Chris Brown, Rush: 8 - 19 - 0
Chris Brown carried the ball 8 times for 19 yards against the Jaguars but had one costly fumble in the endzone. He primarily received his carries in short-yardage situations or when starter Steve Slaton was resting on the sidelines. Brown did not have a target in the passing game.
WR Kevin Walter, Rush: 1 - 11 - 0, Rec: 7 - 96 - 1 (7 targets)
Kevin Walter returned from injury with 7 receptions on 7 targets for 96 yards and one touchdown. His longest reception was for 24 yards. Walter can be expected to fill the WR2 role in Houston as long as he stays healthy and will benefit from the double-coverage Andre Johnson receives. Walter also added one rush for 11 yards.
WR Andre Johnson, Rec: 4 - 86 - 0 (7 targets)
Andre Johnson had 7 targets against Jacksonville and finished the day with 4 receptions for 84 yards (long of 25). Johnson was double-covered most of the day but still managed to post solid numbers.
WR Jacoby Jones, Rec: 2 - 23 - 1 (3 targets)
Jacoby Jones caught two passes for 23 yards including an 18 yard touchdown against the Jaguars. With Kevin Walter healthy, Jones is the Texans WR3 but appears to have Matt Schaub's trust near the goalline. Most of Jones' routes are deep posts with the occasional slant thrown in on 3rd down.
TE Owen Daniels, Rec: 5 - 38 - 1 (7 targets)
Owen Daniels finished the day against the Jaguars with 5 receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown. Daniels continues to be targeted often on short passes on third down. He also is running a lot of routes down the middle of the field between the hashmarks. Daniels had 7 targets on the day. Kicker
