The language of the contract allows for the Cardinals to not make those installments if Warner is not on the roster in 2010, meaning he will not receive those weekly installments of the $7.5 million.

"I would love to get that chance if that opportunity comes up, but the political and right thing to say in this situation is that I would love to be anywhere that would give me a chance. After seizing momentum with a quick-strike scoring drive with 1:13 remaining in the second quarter, Manning felt he had finally broken the New York Jets' defensive code. "From that point on, we really had a good bead on things. We were aggressive the first series of the second half. I was changing every play. Tom was calling some run plays. I just kind of got hot," Manning said. "And Tom, as he does, said 'Hey, you're hot - let's just keep it going.' And he has no ego when it comes to that. I just saw some things, was able to expose some things. And those were two huge drives."

Also, Ian Rapoport, of the Boston Herald, reports Colts owner Jim Irsay said he believes Manning's next contract will make him the highest-paid player in the league. Irsay said the Colts will talk to Manning during the offseason about a new contract. "We know Peyton's going to be the highest-paid player in the league. It's something that'll get done. We'll be talking in the offseason," Irsay said.

Favre was asked if he was going to take a few months to decide his future after the game. Favre said, "I wouldn't say months, I know people are rolling their eyes or will roll their eyes. In a situation like this, I really don't want to make a decision right now based solely on what's happened. Because I do know the year could have not gone any better aside from us not going to Miami." Favre added, "I am going to go home a couple days, and talk it over with the family."

John Shipley, of the Pioneer Press, reports Vikings players want Favre to return in 2010, even if he were to miss training camp again. "I think everyone just wants him here for the season, come in like he did this year," T Bryant McKinnie said. "Just having him part of the team, I felt, helped elevate everyone. There's a lot of stuff that's really out of my control now," Clemens said.

QB Mark Sanchez (NYJ) Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports Mark Sanchez has decided to undergo surgery on his left knee. Sanchez is expected to undergo surgery in the next two or three weeks to strengthen a patella-stabilizing ligament. QB Kevin Kolb (PHI) The Philadelphia Daily News reports Kevin Kolb said he is ready for the opportunity to become a starting quarterback in the NFL. However, he added that he will be a team player as the team figures out their quarterback situation. "I want to be a starter in the NFL. That's my No. 1 goal right now," Kolb told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I want that opportunity. But I'm going to be a team player. I trust Andy [Reid]. I trust his decisions and his ability to see what's in the future and plan out my career the right way. Hopefully, we'll do those things to get me on the field at some point, not knowing when it's going to be." Both Donovan McNabb and Kolb are entering the final season of their respective contracts. The Kolb camp seems open to discussing a contract extension that would pay the quarterback either as a starter or a backup depending on the situation.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Michael Vick (PHI) Michael Lombardi, of NFL Network, reports the Philadelphia Eagles plan on keeping QB Michael Vick in 2010. "They have no intention this offseason of trading Michael Vick," Lombardi said on NFL Network's NFL Total Access. "Many people around the league feel like that's a lot of false bravado, [and] they're going to release him, because he has a ($1.5 million] roster bonus due in March. Not the case. The Eagles believe as this offseason continues, they could incorporate him more into their offense. Seven-to-15 plays, he's a unique player, plus he could start at a moment's notice."

In related news, Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Vick said during a television interview that he has not had a conversation with head coach Andy Reid about a potential trade to another team. "He is just keeping it open for right now," Vick said. "I guess collectively they are trying to decide what they want to do." Vick added, "I'm just sitting back waiting on a final decision. If I'm in Philadelphia, it is cool. If I'm traded ... it would be a great situation. I just have to deal with it."

QB Michael Vick (PHI) Jason La Canfora, of the NFL Network, reports the Eagles are not planning on picking up the 2010 option in Michael Vick's contract, according to sources. They will look to trade Vick before making a final decision on his option.

La Canfora also reports sources close to Vick anticipate him playing for another team next season and looking to land a starting job. Among teams that could be interested in Vick as a starter include the Bills, Rams, Panthers, Raiders and Jaguars. Those teams could be interested in Vick because they are struggling to sell tickets and attract attention to their smaller markets.

Offensive coordinator Greg Olson believes Freeman will benefit from an offseason, training camp and preseason of working on fundamentals and timing with his receivers. Olson said the goal will be to help Freeman complete at least 60 percent of his passes next season. Olson is planning to tailor the team's offensive scheme next season toward Freeman's strengths. Olson added, "We've sat down, we've been having conversations throughout the season about what changes are going to be made. We've continued to have those talks since the season ended. Some of the terminology is going to change and he's very comfortable with what direction we're going and he'll be involved in it when he comes back here and we start putting this thing together."

Collins is under contract for 2010 on the final year of the two-year, $15 million deal he signed last offseason. However, he signed that deal when he was the team's starting quarterback. Now that Vince Young is back as the starting quarterback, even Collins has wondered whether the team would be willing to pay him the $5.5 to $6 million he is owed, if he's not the starter.

"He did a heck of a job at the end of the season, but whether a guy like Jerome can carry the ball that much throughout the whole season, that's a little difficult to say. But at least he proved that he can play in the league. It was unknown until this year, so I think he did himself a favor and we think he's a good player," Heckert said.

That could impact that decision."

Biggane also reports Brown said there has been no progress in contract talks with the Dolphins. Brown would be a restricted free agent if there is no collective bargaining agreement.

RB Adrian Peterson (MIN) Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Adrian Peterson said he will be working on his fumbling issues this offseason by trying to hold the ball higher. "With my running style, it will be something I'm thinking about as far as practice keeping the ball high. The way I run the ball kind of gets loose. I have to be more conscious of keeping the ball high when I'm going down. Those are some little things I'll definitely look to correct this offseason," Peterson said.

Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports former NFL RB Tiki Barber said during a radio interview that Peterson is becoming a liability to his team because of fumbling issues. "You know what? He's becoming a liability for that team. look at that conference championship game. It's all mechanics. It's the same thing I had to learn. You do something one way for so long, you get away with it and you don't think it's a problem. Once you get in the National Football League -- safeties, linebackers, defensive linemen -- they're all taught to strip. If you have any kind of looseness in that football, it's going to come out. Whether it's down here close to your body, up at your chest close to your body, you have to keep it on your body so it can't get knocked away. And then when you go in to contact, cover it with your other hand. It was simple. Most things that cause success are simple," Barber said.

"Some of this I feel like is taken out of my hands," Tomlinson said. "You said a leader and all this kind of stuff, but there was a big part of this year, where for whatever reason, I didn't feel connected as far as the team, the unity, togetherness, family. I didn't feel that at times in the season. There were times that I did. But I'm saying that was a problem in the locker room, I felt like. Just my opinion."

RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) Adam Rank, of NFL.com, reports LaDainian Tomlinson said during a radio interview that he was not happy with his role this season and believes the Chargers relied more on the passing game than the running game like they have done in previous years. "I wasn't happy. No one is going to be happy with the least amount of touches in my career. I don't know any running back that would be happy with that. Absolutely I wasn't happy with not touching the ball as much as I thought I would," Tomlinson said.

Aaron Wilson, of the National Football Post, reports Tomlinson has no intentions of playing for less money if he returns to the team next season. When asked if he would return, Tomlinson said, "I'm not really sure. I can see a lot of things happening. I just kind of leave it open. Supriya Harris claims Jackson got physical during an "argument" in March 2009. She also claims Jackson "forcibly grabbed my arm and flung me against the door. I was crying and trying to protect my stomach from the blows, as I was nine months pregnant." Harris said she left Jackson four months later, after he threatened to beat her up again at a music festival in New Orleans.

Jackson said through a statement on his website that he did not physically assault the mother of his son in March 2009. "It's disheartening that I have to address any alleged allegations 10 months later, but I have read the accusations made by Supriya Harris, and they are untrue. The accusations are especially hurtful because those who truly know me know that those actions would be out of character for me. *** Thursday Update *** RB Chris Johnson (TEN) Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Chris Johnson said head coach Jeff Fisher told the team before their Week 17 game that getting Johnson to 2,000 yards rushing for the season was more important than winning the game because they had no chance at the playoffs. "I don't know if he wants me to say this, but the whole game plan was for me to get 2,000 yards. He had a meeting with the whole team and said, 'we don't have a chance to make the playoffs, so us winning the game really don't matter. If it causes us to lose this game to get to 2,000 yards we will do that.' So I give a lot of credit to Jeff Fisher," Johnson said.

RB Chris Johnson (TEN) Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Chris Johnson believes he should be the highest paid running back. Johnson said, "Hopefully they'll want to give me a new deal. I think I deserve to be the highest paid running back in the league, or even the highest paid offensive player besides the quarterback." Johnson added, "But it's not like I am not going out in the media saying, 'Pay me, I want a new deal now.' I am just saying, if they were to pay me, I want that. Hopefully they want that, too." Johnson is scheduled to make $560,000 in 2010 and $800,000 in 2011. He is currently scheduled to make $2.21 million in 2010, but that could increase to $2.5 million because of the escalators he reached while rushing for 2,006 yards last season.

*** Thursday Update *** WR Demetrius Williams (BAL) Ken Murray, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Demetrius Williams did not do the necessary things during the season to earn more playing time. "He's got to be able to run the kind of routes, catch the ball in pressure situations, break things off at the right depth, make the right adjustments in pressure situations, and do the kinds of things that are going to help us move the football and win games. Those other three guys did that better - offseason, training camp, throughout the year. I think we tried to put Demetrius in situations to be successful as much as we could. The team likely will start long-term contract negotiations after they tender him the offer.

Every bit as much or moreso than the player because those players aren't on that roster unless they can execute. When we look at 'Well we didn't do this well we didn't do that well', and you say we just got to execute better, that means we got to coach better." Jones added, "When you have an asset you work to improve that asset. That's never truer than it is with the evolution of a player no matter at what point he is in his career. You got to take what he does the best."

TE Greg Olsen (CHI) Vaughn McClure and Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, report new Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz said Greg Olsen, who led the team with 60 receptions in 2009, will be an important part of his scheme. Martz has been criticized for not using his tight ends in the passing game. "Like all the positions, you take a look at what you have at tight end and who that guy is and what they can do and then you go from there," Martz said. "In the past, we've always had these big, physical tight ends who really we tried to utilize in the running game and as pass blockers and then as wide receivers. Greg is different. When you can get ... him matched up on linebackers and safeties, it's going to be a mismatch.
