PLEASE NOTE: This does NOT replace the Cheatsheet ranking. The Cheatsheet
rankings are the final say on where we see a player for that week. The
Matchup Breakdowns are simply one more tool in the box when it comes to
helping choose your lineup.
Also note, just because a player has a "bad" matchup, it does NOT mean he's
not a starter in your league. If Peyton Manning is playing the toughest pass
defense in the league, that just means he's got a tough matchup that week.
He's also your starter unless you're loaded at QB. In the same way, if the
worst QB on your roster has a "great" matchup that week, it doesn't
necessarily mean he's your starter. It means we think he'll fare better than
normal that week.
Bottom line is that the cheatsheets are the final say.
Carolina Panthers Rushing Offense vs Denver Broncos Rushing Defense (Great Matchup)
Carolina's backs demolished Tampa Bay's vaunted defense last week, cranking out 37/299/4 rushing as a team. DeAngelo Williams threw 19/186/2 rushing on the Buc's pyre, while Jonathan Stewart poured on 15/115/2 in gasoline. Together, the 2 produced 301 yards rushing vs. Tampa last week. Yikes! Williams is THE #1 fantasy back over the last 3 weeks, with 59/359/7 rushing and 6/39/0 receiving; Stewart is 22nd with 24/188/2 rushing and 1/3/0 receiving - Williams has come to the fore entering December with about 70% of the work flowing his way.
The Broncos have never been "vaunted" on defense this season, averaging 139.5 net rushing yards allowed per game (26th in the NFL), with 17 rushing TDs handed over during the past 13 contests. Over the past 3 weeks, they've allowed 383 rushing yards to the opposition (127.6 per contest), with 18/83/0 allotted to the Chiefs last week.
Carolina is as hot as a rushing attack can be, while the Broncos are among the league's weakest rush defenders - and this game goes down in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The Panthers' backs have a huge edge in this game.
Weather: The Piedmont expects a decent day on Sunday - 53F for a high; 38F for a low, with a 10% chance for precipitation. Neither the fans nor the football players should suffer in Bank of America Stadium this week.

New England Patriots Rushing Offense at Oakland Raiders Rushing Defense (Great Matchup)
The Raiders were crushed by San Diego 34-7 last Thursday, and they may have lost JaMarcus Russell for a few weeks due to an ankle injury. Without Russell, the offense is likely to put up a lot of 3 and outs - increasing the pressure on the defense. That is something to keep in mind this week. Most of the time, the Raiders' rush D is very giving, with an average of 158.7 yards allowed per game and a total of 18 rushing scores surrendered over 13 games. They've handed over 418 rushing yards in the last 3 weeks (139.3 per game), including 46/158/1 handed over to the Chargers last week.
The Patriots got into a dogfight with the Seahawks last week, narrowly winning 24-21. Their leading back last week was Sammy Morris (11/36/1 rushing), while LaMont Jordan shook of the rust from a long injury layoff (4/18/0 rushing) and Kevin Faulk resumed his change-of-pace role (3/16/0 rushing with 5/22/0 receiving). All told, the Patriots assembled 25/84/1 rushing as a team last week.
The Patriots' backs didn't excite fantasy owners last week, but they should run wild vs. Oakland - advantage, New England.
Weather: McAfee Coliseum expctes a high of 51F and a low of 41F on Sunday, with a 40% chance for rain. If the precipitation falls thickly around game time, footing, ball handling, and visibility could all be concerns for both teams - owners of Patriots and Raiders will want to check a shorter-term forecast before setting their lineups.
The official NFL injury report with
Probable, Questionable, Doubtful and Out designations will be available

Philadelphia Eagles Rushing Offense vs Cleveland Browns Rushing Defense (Great Matchup)
Brian Westbrook led his team in rushing and receiving last week, with 33/131/1 rushing and 6/72/1 receiving - against a defense that was ranked in the top 10 in both phases of the game. Westbrook is back at the top of his game entering week 15.
This week, Westbrook faces a team in collapse. The Browns have scored 16 points in the last 3 weeks, while allowing 54. They've coughed up 437 rushing yards during that time span (145.6 per game on average), with 43/235/2 handed over to the Titan's backs last week. Nobody is scared of Cleveland in December, folks.
Westbrook's star should shine brightly on Monday Night Football this week.
Weather: Lincoln Financial Field expects a high of 53F on Monday, with a low of 37F during the evening - there is only a 10% chance for rain on Monday. It'll be a tad cool in Philly, but weather shouldn't play a big role in this contest if the forecast holds up.

San Diego Chargers Rushing Offense at Kansas City Chiefs Rushing Defense (Great Matchup)
San Diego squeaked out a 20-19 victory over the Chiefs back in week 10, with 22/78/0 rushing for LaDainian Tomlinson (plus 4/39/0 receiving) - Darren Sproles added 30 combined yards with 3/15/0 rushing and 3/15/0 receiving during the contest.
Tomlinson enjoyed a TD against his favorite team to play against - Oakland - with 25/91/1 rushing (0 receptions). However, his backup Darren Sproles handled 2 receiving TDs (3/34/2) and rushed for 9/30/0 to boot - Tomlinson's fantasy value is eroding due to Sproles' larger role in the offense. Over the last 3 weeks, Tomlinson has managed 60/199/2 rushing and 8/72/0 receiving (11th best fantasy RB during that span of time), while Sproles has gained 11/51/0 rushing and 5/47/2 receiving. We'll see if Sproles continues to handle more of the receiving duties going forwards.
The Chiefs field one of the league's worst rush defenses, averaging an enormous 161.8 rushing yards allowed per game, with a whopping 21 rushing scores given up over 13 contests. Denver lost another RB last week, but still put up 30/139/1 vs. K.C. - the Chiefs have surrendered 449 rushing yards in their last 3 contests (149.6 per game on average).
This is another great matchup for LaDainian Tomlinson to benefit from - he should do well in Arrowhead Stadium despite the tough crowd.
Weather: Arrowhead Stadium expects a high of 52F with a low of 13F on Sunday, with a 30% chance of precipitation. In this venue, gusty, swirling winds are commonplace at this time of year, and precipitation could be rain, sleet, or snow (or a mix of all 3). If the weather is stormy at game time, all phases of the game will be negatively impacted - owners of Chargers and Chiefs will want to check a shorter-term forecast before setting their lineups this week.

Probable, Questionable, Doubtful and Out designations will be available

Seattle Seahawks Rushing Offense at St. Louis Rams Rushing Defense (Great Matchup)
Seattle pounded on St. Louis back in week 3, with 46/245/3 rushing as a team on the way to a 37-13 victory. Julius Jones (22/140/1) and T.J. Duckett (19/79/2) dished out most of the punishment that day.
Last week, the Seahawks surprised the Patriots with a feisty showing, including 26/134/0 rushing as a team. Seneca Wallace gained 3/47/0 on scrambles, while Maurice Morris (14/39/0 rushing with 2/19/0 receiving) handled most of the carries out of the backfield. Leonard Weaver (5/32/0 rushing with 1/4/0 receiving) and T.J. Duckett (4/16/0 rushing) also chipped in last week.
The Rams did a decent job holding the weak Cardinals' rushing attack to their usual sub-100 yards level, limiting Arizona to 22/63/1 during the game. However, the Rams have still allowed 413 yards rushing over their past 3 games (137.6 per game on average), even with the anemic showing by Arizona last week. The Rams have handed over 22 rushing TDs in 13 games this year, and average 154.2 rushing yards allowed per game.
This is a great matchup for Seattle's committee of backs.
Weather: Inside the Edward Jones Dome, weather won't be a concern for either franchise.

Tennessee Titans Rushing Offense at Houston Texans Rushing Defense (Great Matchup)
Tennessee's running backs smacked the Texans upside their heads the last time these teams met, compiling 37/158/2 rushing en route to a 31-12 victory. Chris Johnson led the team with 16/74/0 on the ground (2/5/0 receiving), and LenDale White drove in 2 TDs with 16/49/2. Since September, the 2 backs have been carving up the opposition with equally good or better results than they obtained vs. Houston.
For example, last week Chris Johnson gashed the Browns for 19/136/1 rushing and 4/30/0 receiving, while LenDale White gained 24/99/1 rushing and 1/2/0 receiving to go over 100 yards combined. Johnson has 45/307/3 rushing and 9/54/0 receiving over the past 3 weeks (7th best fantasy RB); White has amassed 48/204/3 rushing and 1/2/0 receiving in that time span.
The Texans rush D is among the bottom 10 units in the NFL, with an average of 127.2 yards allowed per game (24th) and 17 rushing scores handed over to date. Last week, Green Bay gained 20/108/1 vs. this sub-par unit - they've handed over 329 rushing yards in their last 3 contests.
Advantage, Tennessee.
Weather: Reliant Stadium expects a high of 77F with a low of 59F on Sunday, with a 30% chance for rain. If the precipitation looks likely at game time, it could partially affect the field as the roof is not completely enclosed yet thanks to Hurricane Ike. As temperatures are forecast to be mild, we don't anticipate weather conditions making a huge impact on this game.

Chicago Bears Rushing Offense vs New Orleans Saints Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
This non-divisional game is none-the-less important to the wild-card playoff chase - with both Chicago and New Orleans at 7-6, the winner of this game stays alive for a playoff berth, while the loser is almost surely eliminated. With that in mind, expect a high level of intensity from both teams on Thursday night.
Chicago's Matt Forte continued his string of 100+ yards combined outings last week vs. Jacksonville, with 21/69/0 rushing and 5/37/0 receiving (Forte has gone over 100 yards combined in every game since the Bear's bye in week 8 - 6 straight weeks). Over the last 3 weeks, Forte has posted 63/297/2 rushing and 11/80/1 receiving to check in at #6 among all fantasy RBs in points per game - he's been a solid play for his owners throughout the 2nd half of the season.
New Orleans' rush D has coughed up 357 yards in the last 3 weeks (119 per contest), with 30/99/2 handed over to the Falcons last week. So far this year, the team averages 112.8 rushing yards allowed per game (19th in the NFL), with 10 rushing TDs handed over during 13 contests.
Forte has become a consistent fantasy stud during the 2nd half of the year - New Orleans is merely adequate at rush D this season. Advantage, Chicago.
Weather: Soldier Field expects a high of 32F on Thursday, with a low of 24F and a 10% chance of precipitation. At this time of year, this venue is subject to swirling winds that makes the passing/kicking games trickier than usual, and in sub-freezing temperatures the football will be hard and slick (also making passing and kicking the ball harder than in more temperate conditions). Both teams may rely on their rushing attacks more than usual if the cold is extreme on Thursday night.

Indianapolis Colts Rushing Offense vs Detroit Lions Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
The Colts' rushing attack is in disarray - Dominic Rhodes led the team with 10/31/1 last week, while Joseph Addai could only manage 10/26/0 before being forced from the game with a shoulder injury. Reportedly, Addai could have come back in but was held out for precautionary reasons as the Colts were winning the laugher over Cincy (eventually they pummeled the Bengals 35-3). Rhodes hasn't gone over 50 yards combined in the last 3 weeks, and Addai hasn't scored a TD in 3 weeks - his best game during that span of time was 3 weeks ago vs. San Diego (16/70/0 rushing with 7/31/0 receiving). Since the San Diego game Addai has been in a downwards spiral.
Luckily for Addai and Rhodes, this week they face the worst rush D in the nation - Detroit averages 173.3 rushing yards allowed per game, with a whopping 23 rushing TDs given up over 13 games. Minnesota gained 32/130/1 vs. the Lions last week - over the past 3 weeks, they've handed over 541 rushing yards (180.3 per game on average).
Addai and Rhodes are struggling right now, but any Sunday a team plays against the Lions is like Christmas this year - advantage, Indy.
Weather: Inside Lucas Oil Stadium, weather shouldn't negatively impact either team.

Jacksonville Jaguars Rushing Offense vs Green Bay Packers Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
Maurice Jones-Drew led the Jaguars in rushing (12/55/0) and receiving (7/47/1) last week, while Fred Taylor gained 13/53/0 rushing and 1/6/0 receiving in his supporting role. As a team, the Jaguars managed 28/119/0 on the ground in Soldier Field - it was a decent, but not overwhelming, outing. Jones-Drew checks in at 15th among all fantasy backs over the last 3 weeks, with 27/108/0 rushing and 19/182/1 receiving, while Taylor has 28/140/1 rushing and 3/19/0 receiving during that span of time (40th fantasy RB). Coach Jack Del Rio revealed on Tuesday that Taylor may be headed to IR due to a thumb injury he suffered vs. Chicago - obviously, if Taylor is out of the lineup Jones-Drew owners would benefit from a lot more work flowing to Jones-Drew.
The Packers gave up 31/141/0 rushing to the Texans last week, and have allowed 369 yards rushing over the last 3 weeks (123 per contest). To date, they are 27th in the NFL averaging 141.6 rushing yards allowed per game, with 17 rushing TDs given up over 13 contests. This defensive front has improved modestly over the course of the season, but they are still a suspect group.
Jones-Drew has a good matchup to work with on the Jag's home turf this week.
Weather: The forecast for Jacksonville Municipal Stadium calls for a high of 70F and a low of 58F with a 10% chance for rain - weather conditions shouldn't play a big role in this contest.

Probable, Questionable, Doubtful and Out designations will be available

Minnesota Vikings Rushing Offense at Arizona Cardinals Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
The Vikings' rushing attack amounted to 32/130/1 vs. Detroit - Adrian Peterson gained the "Lions" share of the yardage, with 23/102/0 rushing and 1/15/0 receiving, but Chester Taylor pushed in the TD with 6/27/1 to his credit during the contest. Taylor added 2/26/0 to his totals during the 20-16 win over Detroit. Over the last 3 weeks, Peterson has amassed 68/313/2 rushing and 3/14/0 receiving to land at 10th among all fantasy RBs in points per game; Taylor is 16th with 25/98/3 rushing and 8/57/0 receiving - the team has utilized Taylor a smidge more in recent games, just as coach Brad Childress indicated they would a few weeks back.
The Cardinals' rush D ranks 12th in the NFL currently, averaging 96.5 yards allowed per game, with 10 rushing scores handed over to date. Over the past 3 weeks, Arizona has coughed up 357 rushing yards, 119 per contest on average - the woeful Rams managed 25/85/0 vs. the Cards last week.
Peterson and Taylor form one of the top tandems in the NFL - the Cards are just so-so at rush D and fairly generous at the goal line. Advantage, Minnesota.
Weather: University of Phoenix Stadium expects a high of 65F with a low of 41F and only a 10% chance of rain - if the weather stays mild, the retractable roof may be open for this game.

Probable, Questionable, Doubtful and Out designations will be available

New Orleans Saints Rushing Offense at Chicago Bears Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
This non-divisional game is none-the-less important to the wild-card playoff chase - with both Chicago and New Orleans at 7-6, the winner of this game stays alive for a playoff berth, while the loser is almost surely eliminated.
The Saints revved up their rushing attack vs. Atlanta after Reggie Bush's disappointing return to the field 2 weeks ago - Bush gained 10/80/0 rushing with 3/26/1 receiving vs. Atlanta, while Pierre Thomas actually outscored Bush (16/102/1 rushing with 1/7/1 receiving) - the torch seems to have been passed from Deuce McAllister to Pierre Thomas as the up-the-gut, tough-yardage back to complement Bush's killer speed.
The Chicago Bears' rush D ranks among the top 10 this season, averaging 91.2 rushing yards allowed per game, with 13 rushing TDs allowed over 13 games - however, they've been much more giving of late. Over the last 3 games, the Bears have coughed up 311 rushing yards (103.6 per game), with 28/119/0 handed over to the Jaguars' unit during week 14 (the Jags have had trouble rushing the ball most of the season due to OL issues). Chicago's rush D has faded as the season grinds on, folks.
New Orleans found their groove last week, while the Bears were generous to a suspect attack - advantage, New Orleans.

New York Jets Rushing Offense vs Buffalo Bills Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
Thomas Jones had over 100 yards combined the last time these teams clashed (week 9), with 12/69/1 rushing and 6/38/0 receiving to his credit. Leon Washington claimed 7/13/0 rushing and 2/42/0 receiving as the Jets compiled 25/96/1 rushing against (and a 26-17 victory over) Buffalo.
Over the last 3 weeks, Thomas Jones has piled up 53/290/3 rushing and 8/54/1 receiving to check in at #4 among all fantasy RBs in points per game during that span of time - however, last week he was pretty ordinary with 10/56/1 rushing and 3/12/0 receiving vs. San Francisco. Leon Washington had 6/31/0 receiving last week (2nd on the team), but a mere 1/1/0 rushing out of the backfield. It wasn't a banner day for the Jets' backs, though the team did end up with 12/59/2 on the day (Favre had a 2-yard TD run).
The Bills have given away 336 rushing yards in their last 3 contests (112 per game), with 34/115/0 allowed to the Dolphins' many-headed beast last week. To date, they average 110.2 rushing yards allowed per game (16th in the NFL), with 13 rushing TDs given away so far. This group forms a blah, mediocre rush defense, as you can see.
Jones has been one of the best backs in the land - as the Bills' playoff hopes freeze as solid as the ice on Buffalo's streets, he's got a good shot at another productive outing at home in the Meadowlands.
Weather: The Meadowlands expects a high of 43F with a low of 37F on Sunday, with only a 10% chance for rain. As long as the wind isn't extremely gusty, weather shouldn't impact this contest in a big way (but the winds can be unpredictable in the Meadowlands at this time of year).

St. Louis Rams Rushing Offense vs Seattle Seahawks Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
Steven Jackson compiled over 100 yards combined in week 3 vs. Seattle, with 23/66/0 rushing and 5/62/0 receiving during the 13-37 loss. He was the only player to carry the ball more than once during the game.
Last week, he ground out 19/64/0 rushing vs. Arizona, with 4/3/1 receiving (his 5th TD of the year and the first one scored since week 7). Jackson is providing what spark the Rams' offense has to offer (they'd kicked 5 field goals in the previous 2 games by way of offensive output). Antonio Pittman chipped in with 4/26/0 rushing and 2/41/0 receiving vs. Arizona.
The Seahawks' rush D is currently 21st in the NFL averaging 118.6 yards allowed per game, with 12 rushing TDs handed over during 13 games. They've given away 387 rushing yards in the last 3 games (129 per contest), with 25/84/1 allotted to New England last week. Most of the time, the Seahawks' defensive front is sub-par.
Jackson had some success the last time he faced this squad - on his home turf, this looks like a good matchup for Jackson and the Rams.
Weather: Inside the Edward Jones Dome, weather won't be a concern for either franchise.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rushing Offense at Atlanta Falcons Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
Earnest Graham was the Bucs' lead back during week 2 (15/116/1 rushing, with 1/12/0 receiving), but he's since landed on IR. Current starter Warrick Dunn ground out 12/49/1 rushing and 3/21/0 receiving vs. Atlanta during their first clash.
Last week, Warrick Dunn (10/49/0 rushing and 3/13/0 receiving) led the Bucs' rushing attack, but Carnell Williams again "vultured" the TD, with 9/22/1 rushing and 1/6/0 receiving. Williams has gotten most of the goal line carries since returning to active duty, lowering Dunn's fantasy value a good bit. Over the last 3 weeks, Dunn is 19th among all fantasy backs with 46/213/1 rushing and 8/50/0 receiving; Williams checks in at 46th with 29/69/2 rushing and 1/6/0 receiving.
The Falcons' rush D didn't play well vs. the Saints, allowing a total of 30/184/1 to Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush and company. Over the past 3 weeks, the Falcons have coughed up 388 rushing yards (129.3 per game on average), compared to their season mark of 121.8 rushing yards allowed per game. To date, the Falcons have handed over 15 rushing TDs during 13 contests.
Dunn and Williams have been getting the job done in recent weeks, and they've got a good matchup waiting for them in Atlanta. Advantage, Tampa Bay.
Weather: Inside the Georgia Dome, weather won't be an issue for either team.

Probable, Questionable, Doubtful and Out designations will be available

Washington Redskins Rushing Offense at Cincinnati Bengals Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)
ORT Jon Jansen (knee injury) and OLT Chris Samuels (Samuels out for the season) were injured vs. Baltimore - as a result of losing their top OT's, the Washington running game struggled last week. Baltimore limited the Redskins to 254 total net yards, with only 21/62/0 allowed to Clinton Portis (11/32/0 rushing) and company on the ground. Portis, currently fighting numerous injuries, has hit a wall in the last 2 weeks, with 11/22/0 rushing and 1/15/0 receiving vs. the Giants; and 11/32/0 rushing with 3/14/0 receiving vs. Baltimore. Of course, both of those teams field top-5 rush defenses.
The Bengals do not field at top-5 rush D; they don't field a top-20 rush D. This season, they are 23rd in the NFL when it comes to rush D, averaging 125.8 yards allowed per game, with 15 rushing TDs given up so far. Cincy has handed over 325 rushing yards in their last 3 games, with only 20/57/1 mustered by the stumbling Colts stable last week (thus Cincy averaged 134 rushing yards allowed in the previous 2 games).
Two struggling units clash in this game - we think that Portis has a good shot to rebound despite the OL problems. The Bengals are battling the Lions for the first draft pick at this point in the season, but their tie with Philly may end up tripping them up in that race, too.
Weather: Paul Brown Stadium expects a high of 53F and a low of 42F with a 10% chance of rain on Sunday - weather conditions shouldn't negatively impact either team if the forecast holds up.

Atlanta Falcons Rushing Offense vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rushing Defense (Neutral Matchup)
Michael Turner (14/42/0 rushing) and Jerious Norwood (6/18/0 rushing) had a hard time getting their engines going back in week 2 - with some help from an end-around (Harry Douglas hit a 33 yard run that way), the Falcons did manage to compile a respectable 28/105/0 rushing against the Bucs as a team that day. Neither Turner nor Norwood were strong vs. Tampa, though.
Over the last 3 weeks, Turner has been one of the hot backs in the league, with 73/298/5 rushing. Jerious Norwood has faded into a secondary figure, with 13/47/0 rushing and 7/33/0 receiving during that same time span - Turner is the 3rd best fantasy RB during those weeks, Norwood is the 66th ranked fantasy RB. Last week, Turner posted 18/61/1 rushing vs. New Orleans; Norwood had 5/18/0 rushing and 4/20/0 receiving; and Matt Ryan scored the other TD with 4/13/1 to his credit.
The Buccaneers got blown up in this phase of the game on Monday Night Football, with their worst performance in recent memory. Carolina lit them up for 37/299/4 rushing as a team, and watched both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart go over 100 yards rushing as individuals. The huge game plummeted Tampa to 18th overall vs. the run this season (111.1 per game average now), and the 4 rushing TDs ran their season total of rushing TDs allowed to 5. Most weeks, the Bucs are fierce run defenders, but Monday night they were wimps. We'll see if Monte Kiffin can sweat this defensive front back into shape for this critical divisional contest.
Turner is on fire entering this week, and has a complimentary talent backing him up in Norwood - against the reeling Buccaneers, in the Georgia Dome, this looks like a neutral matchup. Neither team has a clear edge over the other.
Weather: Inside the Georgia Dome, weather won't be an issue for either team.

Denver Broncos Rushing Offense at Carolina Panthers Rushing Defense (Neutral Matchup)
Another week, another Denver running back on IR - this week, the team lost Peyton Hillis after he got off to a hot start vs. Kansas City (8/58/1 rushing, with 1/11/0 receiving). Tatum Bell was adequate in relief (11/52/0 rushing, with 2/16/0 receiving), and looks set to try and fill the lead back's role this week. Selvin Young could be back from his groin injury - behind him the Broncos have P.J. Pope and Cory Boyd currently rostered. We'll see how well Bell can acquit himself in his second stint as the ball carrier in Denver. Back in 2005, he compiled 173/921/8 rushing with 18/104/0 receiving, but then quit finding pay dirt during 2006 (233/1025/2 rushing with 24/115/0 receiving).
The Panthers limited Warrick Dunn and company to 24/86/1 last week, and have averaged 121.3 rushing yards allowed per game over the last 3 weeks. To date, the team is 17th in the NFL averaging 110.8 rushing yards allowed per game, with 11 rushing TDs given up in 13 contests.
The Panthers are not fielding a shut-down type defense this year - against the wounded Broncos' stable, this looks like a fairly even matchup from where we're sitting.
Weather: The Piedmont expects a decent day on Sunday - 53F for a high; 38F for a low, with a 10% chance for precipitation. Neither the fans nor the football players should suffer in Bank of America Stadium this week.

Green Bay Packers Rushing Offense at Jacksonville Jaguars Rushing Defense (Neutral Matchup)
Ryan Grant got back in the saddle as the Packers' lead back last week, gaining 19/104/1 rushing and 1/8/0 receiving vs. the Texans - Brandon Jackson had 2 receptions for 6 yards in a limited role during the game. It was Grant's first 100+ yard game in the last 3 weeks, and his first TD during that span of time - but you have to start somewhere.
The Jaguars are tied for 19th in the NFL vs. opposing rushers, with an average of 112.8 yards allowed per game, with 11 rushing scores handed over to date. Over the last 3 weeks, they've coughed up 334 rushing yards (111.3 per contest), with 26/86/0 surrendered to the Bears last week. This squad is a mediocre bunch most of the time.
Grant bounced back against the Texans last week - he's got an even chance to continue the momentum against the so-so Jaguars on Sunday.
Weather: The forecast for Jacksonville Municipal Stadium calls for a high of 70F and a low of 58F with a 10% chance for rain - weather conditions shouldn't play a big role in this contest.

Miami Dolphins Rushing Offense vs San Francisco 49ers Rushing Defense (Neutral Matchup)
Miami's tandem of Ronnie Brown (16/70/0 rushing and 2/18/0 receiving) and Ricky Williams (11/40/0 rushing with 2/2/0 receiving) continue to provide an adequate rushing attack to the Dolphins, who combined for 34/115/0 rushing vs. Buffalo last week. Taken alone, neither player is a fantasy standout (Brown has posted 41/155/1 rushing and 3/28/0 receiving over the past 3 weeks, for 33rd among all fantasy RBs; Williams checks in at 45th with 29/115/0 rushing and 4/21/1 receiving during that time span).
The 49ers beat the Jets last week, handing over 2 rushing TDs but limiting the team to 12/59/2 on the ground. Over the past 3 weeks, the 49ers have given up 289 rushing yards (96.3 per game), a better showing than their season average of 104.4 per game would indicate (14th in the NFL). They are still pretty generous at the goal line, though, with 12 rushing scores given up over 13 games. The team is improving, but they are far from being a dominant defensive squad entering week 15.
The Miami attack is workmanlike but unspectacular, and those adjectives also apply to the opposing defense - this game looks pretty even to us.
Weather: Dolphin Stadium expects a high of 77F on Sunday, with a low of 66F and a 30% chance of rain - if the sky opens up at game time, footing and ball handling will be more problematic than usual. Tropical storm cells can be very intense, which could decrease visibility and create gusty winds - all phases of the game would be adversely affected if the weather is nasty.

Baltimore Ravens Rushing Offense vs Pittsburgh Steelers Rushing Defense (Tough Matchup)
During week 4, these teams clashed in Pittsburgh, with a 20-23 overtime victory going to the Steelers. That week, Le'Ron McClain ran for 16/63/1 to lead his team in rushing, and added 3/26/0 receiving to the mix. Willis McGahee was able to gain 13/42/0 rushing and 3/19/0 receiving during the contest, while Ray Rice was a non-factor at 1/0/0 rushing.
Since then, McGahee has appeared in the lineup sporadically - last week, he was the change-of-pace back (11/32/0 rushing with 1/-8/0 receiving) to Le'Ron McClain's lead (20/61/1 rushing). Ray Rice was more effective in his time on the field (3/31/0 rushing with 2/9/0 receiving)- as things stand now, McClain is the guy to start in fantasy circles, as he is the most reliable of the ball carriers from week to week. He's had at least 18 carries per game during the last 3 contests (63/235/2), with TDs in 2 of the 3 games.
The Steelers are still #1 in the NFL vs. opposing rushers, averaging 73 rushing yards allowed per game, with just 5 rushing TDs handed over during 13 contests. Last week, Dallas managed 26/95/0 vs. Dallas - better than most teams do when in Heinz Field. Bottom line: the Steelers field the best rushing D in the land right now.
McClain has been solid lately, but he'll have a tough struggle vs. Pittsburgh in this divisional grudge match.
Weather: M and T Bank Stadium expects a high of 43F and a low of 40F and a 10% chance of rain on Sunday - weather conditions shouldn't negatively impact either the Ravens or the Steelers if the forecast holds up.

Dallas Cowboys Rushing Offense vs New York Giants Rushing Defense (Tough Matchup)
Marion Barber (19/54/0 rushing, 1/-12/0 receiving) and Tashard Choice (5/27/0 rushing) combined for 24/81/0 the last time they faced the Giants. At that time, Brad Johnson was trying to lead the Cowboys, making the Giants more comfortable with stacking the box and daring the Cowboys to pass. We'll see how things unfold this time, in Texas Stadium, with Tony Romo under center.
Barber missed last week's game due to his sore pinkie toe (dislocated two weeks ago), prompting Jerry Jones to challenge his toughness publicly after the loss to Pittsburgh. We'll see how Barber responds to the slagging - in his absence, Tashard Choice led the Cowboys in rushing (23/88/0) and receiving (5/78/0) against the Steelers' top-ranked D. Perhaps Choice's showing will motivate Barber to get in the game this week - stay tuned to players in the news as the week goes along to get a feel for Barber's chances to play on Sunday.
The Giants were blown up by the Eagles last week, especially in the rushing phase of the game - Brian Westbrook led the team to 41/144/1 rushing during the game, far more than the Giants usually allow this year. They average 89.9 rushing yards given up per game, with only 8 rushing TDs handed over to date - over the past 3 weeks, the Giants average 86.3 rushing yards allowed per game, including the big night by Philly. Usually, it isn't easy to run the ball vs. New York.
The Eagles gave New York a wake up call last week - we'll see how they respond against Dallas. In Texas Stadium, Barber and Choice have a tough assignment ahead of them when New York hits town.
Weather: Texas Stadium expects a high of 72F on Sunday, with a low of 56F and a 10% chance for rain - the weather shouldn't impact either team in such mild conditions.

Detroit Lions Rushing Offense at Indianapolis Colts Rushing Defense (Tough Matchup)
Kevin Smith fought through the vaunted Vikings' defense last week for 22/63/0 rushing and 2/27/0 receiving - he's getting plenty of touches every week, but the offense doesn't get in scoring position enough for him to cash in on his hard work. Its been 4 weeks since he found pay dirt - over the last 3 games, Smith has 50/171/0 and 3/36/0 receiving to check in at #42 among all fantasy RBs during that span of time.
The Colts have handed over 303 rushing yards in the last 3 weeks, but limited Cincinnati's stable to 24/82/0 last week. They've improved greatly on their season average of 129.8 rushing yards allowed per game entering the final weeks of the season (the team has surrendered a hefty 15 rushing TDs this year). The Colts' defense is tightening up.
Detroit just doesn't have much "oomph" as a unit - against the improving Indianapolis D, this looks like a tough matchup for Smith.
Weather: Inside Lucas Oil Stadium, weather shouldn't negatively impact either team.

Houston Texans Rushing Offense vs Tennessee Titans Rushing Defense (Tough Matchup)
Steve Slaton enjoyed a productive outing the last time these teams clashed (back in week 3, a 12-31 loss for Houston) - he gained 18/116/1 rushing and had 4 catches for 8 yards during the game. Chris Taylor was his sidekick in that contest, with 6/15/0 rushing to his credit.
Slaton was a force to be reckoned with vs. the Packers last week, gaining 26/140/10 rushing and 3/40/0 receiving during the 24-21 victory. He has posted 68/323/2 rushing and 5/92/0 receiving over the last 3 weeks, to check in at #8 among all fantasy backs in points per game during that span of time. Slaton is hot entering the final weeks of the season.
The Titans field a top-ten rush D, averaging 92.4 yards allowed per game, with 12 rushing TDs given away so far this year. Over the last 3 games, Tennessee has allowed 250 rushing yards (83.3 per contest), with a mere 19/35/0 surrendered to the Browns last week. This unit is among the league's top defensive fronts.
Slaton is going strong, but he's got a tough matchup to face this week.

Kansas City Chiefs Rushing Offense vs San Diego Chargers Rushing Defense (Tough Matchup)
K.C. came within a failed 2-pt conversion attempt (19-20 loss) of defeating the Chargers back in week 10, with 18/76/0 rushing as a team (Larry Johnson was on suspension at the time) - Dantrell Savage led the team with 12/44/0 rushing during the game.
Last week, against arch-rival Denver, Larry Johnson underwhelmed us vs. the weak Denver defense, with 11/36/0 rushing - Jamaal Charles contributed 1/13/0 rushing and 3/12/0 receiving. As a team, the Chiefs could only manage 18/83/0 on the ground. They didn't play well last week, as you can see.
The Chargers crushed divisional rival Oakland last week, allowing just 7 points and a mere 16/54/0 rushing to the Raiders. Over the past 3 weeks, San Diego has handed over 286 yards rushing - to date, they average 102.9 rushing yards allowed per game (13th in the NFL), but have allowed just 6 rushing TDs (3rd-best total in that category among all 32 teams). San Diego's rush D is playing well during the final month of the season.
Johnson and company flopped last week vs. the Broncos - this week, they are on home turf, but face a much better defense than the one Denver fields. Advantage, San Diego.

New York Giants Rushing Offense at Dallas Cowboys Rushing Defense (Tough Matchup)
The Giants walloped the Cowboys in the rushing phase of the game back in week 9, combining for 34/200/2 - Brandon Jacobs (17/117/1) and Derrick Ward (12/63/1 rushing, with 2/26/0 receiving) both scored, and Ahmad Bradshaw chipped in with 5/20/0 late in the contest. In the end, the Giants won the game by a margin of 35-14.
However, last week the Giants lost to Philly by a margin of 20-14 - after the game, coach Coughlin was asked if the Eagles were more mentally into the game. He replied "I don't necessarily agree with that," he said. "We didn't play well. We didn't play the way we have been playing. We are a better football team than that, but as far as all those other things go, that is all speculation."
Brandon Jacobs could only go part of the game (10/52/0) before banging a knee on the ground violently and ending up sidelined - MRIs were negative for any ligament damage, but fantasy owners of Jacobs will want to monitor his practice participation later in the week. Derrick Ward (8/39/0 rushing with 1/2/0 receiving) and Ahmad Bradshaw (5/9/0) failed to spark the rushing attack and when it was all said and done the mighty Giants had crawled to 24/88/0 - not exactly what fantasy owners were looking for on the cusp of fantasy playoffs. Jacobs didn't practice Wednesday, but is reportedly "a little bit better" according to coach Tom Coughlin. He added that the Giants would "...do the smart thing; the thing which is medically recommended." regarding Jacobs' playing status this week - stay tuned to see if Jacobs practices later in the week.
Dallas' D played very well vs. Pittsburgh's stable last week, holding the many-headed monster to 26/70/0 as a team. Over the last 3 games, the Cowboys have been stout in this phase, with just 176 rushing yards allowed during that span of time (58.6 yards per game on average). They are now 9th in the NFL averaging 94.8 rushing yards allowed per game, with 8 rushing TDs given up over 13 contests. The 'Boy's defensive front is clamping down heading into the final few weeks of the year.
The Giants' rushing attack slowed to a crawl last week, while the Cowboys kept up their recent stonewalling ways - at home in Texas Stadium, this looks like a tough matchup for Big Blue's 3-headed monster.
Weather: Texas Stadium expects a high of 72F on Sunday, with a low of 56F and a 10% chance for rain - the weather shouldn't impact either team in such mild conditions.

San Francisco 49ers Rushing Offense at Miami Dolphins Rushing Defense (Tough Matchup)
The 49ers took a big hit to their offense last week when Frank Gore went down with badly sprained ankle - as of midweek, he's reportedly very sore, and hasn't been ruled out (or in) for this contest. His status probably won't be decided until late in the week, after he undergoes further treatment and evaluation. In the instance that Gore is out, DeShaun Foster and Thomas Clayton would try to replace him in the lineup. Foster managed just 16/35/0 rushing and 1/8/0 receiving in relief of Gore during the second half last week (he has 35/78/0 rushing and 6/71/1 receiving this season).
The Dolphins are currently ranked 11th in the NFL vs. opposing rushers, with an average of 96 rushing yards allowed per game, and a total of 8 rushing TDs handed over during 13 contests. Over the past 3 weeks, they've handed over 335 rushing yards (111.6 per contest), with 18/84/0 allotted to Buffalo last week (but Marshawn Lynch could only manage 13/31/0, a 2.4 yards allowed per carry average). Miami's defensive front is playing stout football entering December.
San Francisco's star back may be out of this contest, and the Dolphins have home field advantage at their back in any case - this looks like a tough challenge for Foster and Clayton (upgrade to a neutral matchup if Gore (14/52/0 rushing and 3/13/1 receiving last week) is available).

Arizona Cardinals Rushing Offense vs Minnesota Vikings Rushing Defense (Bad Matchup)
The Cardinals continue to underwhelm us in the rushing phase of the game, with 22/63/1 vs. the Rams (one of the worst rush defenses in the land) - Tim Hightower managed to find the end zone again (12/32/1 rushing), while J.J. Arrington (5/22/0 rushing and 3/30/0 receiving) made the most of limited touches - Edgerrin James gained 3/11/0 in his cameo appearance on the field. As usual, the Cardinals relied on their passing attack to get the job done on Sunday.
The Vikings got a judicial intervention that saved their starting DT tandem (for week 14 at least) - as a result, the Lions were held to 22/76/0 rushing during the game. That's about what you'd expect from the #2 ranked rush D in the land (averaging 73.3 yards allowed per game, with 9 rushing TDs handed over in 13 contests). Over the last 3 weeks, the Vikings have given up 214 rushing yards (71.3 per contest) - they are very hard-nosed rush defenders. However, commissioner Roger Goodell expressed confidence that the Williams' suspensions would be upheld - if Pat and Kevin Williams are forced off the field, the Vikings' defensive front takes a major hit.
The Cardinals are among the least explosive running teams in the NFL - the Vikings are among the stubbornest rush defenses. Advantage, Minnesota.
Weather: University of Phoenix Stadium expects a high of 65F with a low of 41F and only a 10% chance of rain - if the weather stays mild, the retractable roof may be open for this game.

Buffalo Bills Rushing Offense at New York Jets Rushing Defense (Bad Matchup)
Buffalo's stable was shut down by the Jets during week 9, with 17/30/0 rushing as a team and 9/16/0 rushing by Marshawn Lynch. Fred Jackson could only manage 7/15/0 rushing, although both backs gained some ground as receivers (3/52/0 for Lynch; 3/25/0 for Jackson).
Last week, Miami shut down Buffalo's rushing attack, limiting Marshawn Lynch to 13/31/0 and holding the team to 18/84/0 on the ground. Lynch managed only 1/4/0 receiving - with J.P. Losman under center, teams are able to concentrate on shutting down the run, daring the Bills to pass (Losman couldn't last week, with only 79 net yards passing, 0 TDs and 1 interception).
The Jets have dropped 2 games, but their rush D did a good job vs. San Francisco last week, holding Frank Gore to 14/52/0 (a 3.7 yards per carry average) and limiting the 49ers to 33/100/0 as a team. Over the last 3 weeks, the Jets have handed over just 272 yards rushing (90.6 per game) - just a tad more than their season average of 83.5 rushing yards allowed per game (4th in the NFL). New York has given out just 8 rushing TDs in 13 contests.
Lynch has gone stone cold in the current offense, while the Jets' defensive front remains rock solid. This is a bad matchup for Lynch (very bad if J.P. Losman is the QB again on Sunday).

Cincinnati Bengals Rushing Offense vs Washington Redskins Rushing Defense (Bad Matchup)
Cedric Benson is doing the best he can, but he isn't a magician who can turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. The Bengals' offense is a sow's ear, folks. The QBs regularly turn over the ball. The team has scored a total of 16 points over the last 3 weeks, with a total of 3 points in each of their last 2 games. Benson tries to generate some momentum, but teams don't have to respect the passing game and thus clamp down on the rushing attack. Last week, Benson put up his best yards per carry average in 4 weeks with 3.6 per attempt (16/57/0, with 2/1/0 receiving), but that isn't going to get a fantasy owner's heart racing. We suggest you look elsewhere for your starters during fantasy playoffs.
The Redskins have struggled to control quality rushing attacks the last few weeks, with 39/147/1 rushing allowed to the Ravens' tandem last week, and a total of 394 rushing yards given up to Baltimore, the Giants, and Seattle over the past 3 weeks. The tough matchups have lowered their season average to 95.2 rushing yards allowed per game (10th in the NFL), with 9 rushing TDs given up in 13 contests.
Cincy's offense is among the worst squads of the decade - Washington fields a borderline top-10 rush D that has been knocked back on their heels of late. To us, that still spells b-a-d matchup for the likes of the Bengals.
Weather: Paul Brown Stadium expects a high of 53F and a low of 42F with a 10% chance of rain on Sunday - weather conditions shouldn't negatively impact either team if the forecast holds up.

Cleveland Browns Rushing Offense at Philadelphia Eagles Rushing Defense (Bad Matchup)
As expected, the Titans clamped down on the Browns' running backs (19/35/0 rushing as a team) and dared the new starter, Ken Dorsey, to beat them through the air. Jamal Lewis endured a miserable day with 7/7/0 rushing and 2/3/0 receiving - look for more such anemic outings now that the Browns offense is officially in collapse in the passing phase of the game. Opposing teams are going to force the Browns to pass by choking off the running game.
Philadelphia has a top-10 rush D, currently averaging 93.1 yards allowed per game, with a mere 6 rushing TDs given up to date. Last week, the mighty Giants could only come up with 24/88/0 rushing vs. Philadelphia, at home in Giants' Stadium.
This looks like a horrid week to have a Brown in your lineup.
Weather: Lincoln Financial Field expects a high of 53F on Monday, with a low of 37F during the evening - there is only a 10% chance for rain on Monday. It'll be a tad cool in Philly, but weather shouldn't play a big role in this contest if the forecast holds up.

Oakland Raiders Rushing Offense vs New England Patriots Rushing Defense (Bad Matchup)
The Raiders' offense suffered a potentially serious blow last week when JaMarcus Russell went down with a badly sprained ankle on Thursday night - he's still in a walking boot as of Tuesday this week. If he's out and Andrew Walter is in, look for New England to concentrate on stuffing the run this week, making things more difficult than ever for Justin Fargas (12/50/0 rushing and 2/9/0 receiving vs. San Diego) and Darren McFadden (1/0/0 rushing and 2/8/0 receiving). Michael Bush had a cameo last week, with 2/4/0. As you can see, there isn't much to get excited about in fantasy terms (or any other terms) on this offense.
New England ranks 15th in the NFL averaging 107.8 rushing yards allowed per game, with 7 rushing TDs handed over in 13 contests - they bend, but don't break very often. Over the past 3 weeks, teams have gained 357 rushing yards vs. the Pats, including 26/134/0 put up by Seattle last week - notice the goose egg in the TD column, though.
The Raiders don't have much of an offense left as of week 15 - this looks like a bad matchup from our vantage point.

Pittsburgh Steelers Rushing Offense at Baltimore Ravens Rushing Defense (Bad Matchup)
Willie Parker was sidelined the last time these teams met, and Mewelde Moore was playing second fiddle to Rashard Mendenhall (he's now on IR). As a team, the Steelers only managed 28/69/0 rushing vs. Baltimore. That's not much to brag on in fantasy football terms, folks.
The Steelers' rushing attack was dampened by the Cowboys last week, generating just 26/70/0 as a team - Willie Parker put up 12/25/0 rushing while Mewelde Moore gained 5/22/0 rushing and 4/26/0 receiving - there just wasn't much to get excited about in this phase of the game last week.
The Ravens are the 3rd best rush D in the land when it comes to average yards allowed per game (77), but they are #1 when it comes to rushing TDs allowed to date (3). Last week, Washington eked out 21/62/0 vs. Baltimore. It is never easy to move the ball vs. Baltimore this year.
The Steelers' rushing attack has been less-than-impressive in recent weeks, while the Ravens' wet-blanket defensive front smothers most backs. Advantage, Baltimore.
Weather: M and T Bank Stadium expects a high of 43F and a low of 40F and a 10% chance of rain on Sunday - weather conditions shouldn't negatively impact either the Ravens or the Steelers if the forecast holds up.
