Week 7 Early Injury Report

by Mark Wimer, Exclusive to Footballguys.com

Quarterback

QB Brian Griese - TB - Griese was unable to play on Sunday due to his injured elbow, and watched Jeff Garcia play very well from the sidelines - it is likely that Garcia is back in the saddle as the Buccaneers' #1 QB.

QB Matt Hasselbeck - SEA - Hasselbeck was unable to play on Sunday due to his hyper-extended knee after being listed as questionable to play on Friday. Coach Mike Holmgren sounded pessimistic about Hasselbeck returning soon after the game on Sunday, in part because his knee has not responded to treatment, making team doctors think there could be more damage. "I might have a better answer for you at (today's) press conference," Holmgren said. "There (are) more tests that he needs to take, apparently. It's hard to put your finger on it."

QB Jon Kitna - DET - Kitna sat out of the game on Sunday as expected after being listed as doubtful on Friday due to his sore back. Kitna had an MRI and also consulted a spine specialist about the injury so far - the Lions refuse to discuss details of Kitna's health. Kitna did not make the trip to Minnesota for Sunday's game. Lions coach Rod Marinelli said the organization would huddle Monday morning and discuss Kitna's future.

QB Carson Palmer - CIN - Palmer missed the game on Sunday as expected after being listed as doubtful on Friday due to his injured right elbow. There are reports on Monday that he is seeking second opinions on his injury with the Mets' doctor, Dr. David Altchek, in the New York area. He'll continue to be evaluated as the week goes along. Palmer is consulting Altchek because his elbow injury is of a type common among MLB pitchers, according to reports on Monday.

QB Tony Romo - DAL - Romo said he suffered a right pinkie strain on the first play of overtime, and the finger was bandaged and heavily iced after the game. Further evaluations on Monday indicated that Romo broke his pinkie finger and may be out up to four weeks while his throwing hand heals. Brad Johnson will be the starter while Romo heals unless the team makes an unexpected move.

QB Seneca Wallace - SEA - Seneca Wallace was active as the emergency QB, but didn't play on Sunday due to his injured calf. Charlie Frye got the start for Seattle last week in Matt Hasselbeck's absence. "I think Seneca will improve day-to-day. So I would suspect he would be available to play next week," coach Holmgren said after the game on Sunday.

Running Back

RB Joseph Addai - IND - Addai was sidelined early in the game on Sunday due to a hamstring injury, although initial reports are that the injury isn't major. "I think Joseph is going to be OK," coach Dungy indicated in his post-game comments.

RB Ladell Betts - WAS - Betts injured his knee late in the game on Sunday. "I need to find out if I have to get an MRI," Betts said after the game. "I just remember waiting to set up my blocks, one of the guys was pulling for me, and right when I went to plant and cut, I think I got hit at the same time...My knee just felt like it buckled. It felt awkward. I knew something wasn't right." Evaluations of Betts' injury are ongoing.

At the end of the day, that's all I can do. If I was out here and not trying, that's one thing. But I'm actually out here trying to do what I can do so I really don't care what everybody else says."

RB Willis McGahee - BAL - McGahee left Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts in the third quarter. He walked off the field under his own power but did not return to action - it is unclear if he tweaked something or was merely pulled for precautionary reasons as the Colts were blowing out the Ravens.
