Week 4 Early Injury Report

Quarterback

QB Jon Kitna - DET - Kitna sprained his right knee during the game on Sunday "It feels pretty bad right now," Kitna said after the Lions' 31-13 loss to the 49ers. "They say it doesn't feel like anything structural right now." He'll be evaluated further on Monday.

QB Donovan McNabb - PHI - McNabb remained in the locker room at the start of the second half on Sunday because of a chest injury, so Kevin Kolb ran the offense for five plays while McNabb received treatment. McNabb will be evaluated further as the week goes along. On Monday, coach Andy Reid commented "Do I think he'll be sore this week? Yeah. He's sore today and I think he'll get progressively better as the week goes on. He's got a contusion on his upper chest."

QB Matt Moore - CAR - Moore was inactive on Sunday as expected (broken fibula, out on Friday's injury report).

QB Patrick Ramsey - DEN - Ramsey was active but didn't play on Sunday (right elbow, probable on Friday).

QB Ben Roethlisberger - PIT - Roethlisberger said his right hand, bandaged after the game, was stepped on but that his hand was "good" after an X-ray showed no breaks. Coach Mike Tomlin said he will have more tests today but "I think he's going to be fine. He's battered a little bit, he got hit quite a bit. I'll have more info in the morning. At this point it doesn't appear to be anything long term."

QB Troy Smith - BAL - Smith missed another game on Sunday due to his ongoing recovery from a tonsil infection (listed as out on Friday).

QB Drew Stanton - DET - Stanton was inactive on Sunday as the 3rd QB after being listed as probable to play on Sunday (right thumb injury).

QB Seneca Wallace - SEA - Wallace was inactive on Sunday due to his calf injury after being listed as doubtful on Friday.

QB Vince Young - TEN - Young missed the game on Sunday as expected (knee, hamstring, out on Friday's injury report).

Running Back

RB B.J. Askew - TB - Askew suffered a hamstring injury of unspecified severity on Sunday - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

RB Darian Barnes - BUF - Barnes injured his right foot during the first half on Sunday and did not return. He was on crutches and wearing a walking boot in the locker room after the contest. "I went up and just came down wrong," he said. "It's disappointing that I don't have that opportunity to help the team. But right now I have to concentrate on getting healthy so I can play next week. That's the goal."

RB Justin Fargas - OAK - Fargas missed the game on Sunday as expected (groin, doubtful to play on Friday's injury report).

RB Ryan Grant - GB - Grant appeared to be improving as he continues to recover from a preseason hamstring injury. "He's getting closer to his old self," coach Mike McCarthy said after the game on Sunday.

RB Ahman Green - HOU - Green missed yet another game due to his most recent injury, a knee problem (listed as doubtful to play on Friday).

RB Korey Hall - GB - Hall missed the game on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday's injury report due to his injured knee.

RB Tony Hunt - PHI - Hunt left the game Sunday in the first quarter with a concussion - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

RB Laurence Maroney - NE - Maroney missed the game on Sunday due to his injured shoulder (listed as questionable to play on Friday).

RB LeRon McClain - BAL - McClain missed some time during the game on Sunday due to twisted ankles, but returned to action. "That first one was crazy, man," McClain said afterward. "Both my ankles got twisted under the pile. I thought it was a big injury, but the pain wore off."

RB Willis McGahee - BAL - McGahee returned to action on Sunday after rehabbing his arthroscopic knee surgery, but after rushing 10 times for 37 yards in the first half, McGahee played sporadically in the second period because of a cut on his right eyelid.

RB Maurice Morris - SEA - Morris missed the game on Sunday as expected due to his injured knee (listed as out on Friday).

RB Adrian Peterson - MIN - "With Adrian coming in, with a little bit of the hamstring (injury), we just wanted to make sure we picked our spots with him," offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said after the win over Carolina. "You didn't want to wear him out, putting any extra stress on that. I felt he played well, that he could still run on that. But you don't want to overload him. Truly, we don't miss much when we put Chester in there."

"It held up," Peterson said after the game. "I came out feeling good. I was in the ballgame throughout the game, so I'm feeling good."

RB Antonio Pittman - STL - Pittman suffered a calf injury on the opening kickoff Sunday, ending his day. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

RB Aaron Stecker - NO - Stecker missed the game on Sunday due to his injured hamstring (listed as questionable on Friday).

RB Jonathan Stewart - CAR - Stewart missed some time during the game on Sunday after getting the wind knocked out of him on a kickoff return.

RB Ryan Torain - DEN - Torain missed the game on Sunday as expected (elbow, out on Friday's injury report).

RB Brian Westbrook - PHI - Westbrook suffered an ankle injury Sunday, and missed the final 3 quarters of action. "Westbrook has an ankle sprain and he'll have an MRI in the morning," coach Andy Reid said after the game. "Off the X-rays, it's not fractured, but we'll do the MRI tomorrow and see what the deal is."

After the MRI Monday showed no serious damage, coach Reid said "He was on crutches yesterday and he's limping around without crutches today. I guess that's a positive. It will be a race to get him ready for Sunday. It's not torn or damaged, but there is a strain in there, yes."

"It's a day-to-day situation," Reid said. "I think we can manage it."

Wide Receiver

WR Deion Branch - SEA - Branch missed another game on Sunday due to his ongoing knee rehab after being listed as doubtful to play on Friday.

WR Keenan Burton - STL - Burton missed the game on Sunday as expected due to his injured knee (listed as out on Friday).

OL Jacksonville Jaguars - JAX - C Brad Meester (biceps injury) and G Chris Naeole (knee injury) were out on Sunday after being listed as "out" on Friday, as expected.

OL Detroit Lions - DET - RG Stephen Peterman suffered a broken right hand. He said he felt it snap but kept playing, mostly using just his good hand. "It is what it is, man," Peterman said after the game. "I'll do what they tell me, put it in a cast or whatever, and hopefully I don't miss too much time."

OL Green Bay Packers - GB - G Josh Sitton missed the game on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday's injury report due to his injured knee, while C Scott Wells was active but did not play thanks to his sore back.

OL Carolina Panthers - CAR - G Travelle Wharton sat out of the game on Sunday due to his bum knee (listed as out on Friday).

OL Houston Texans - HOU - T Ephraim Salaam did not play on Sunday after being listed as probable for action on Friday (knee injury).

DT Shaun Cody - DET - Cody suffered a sprained knee of unspecified severity during the game on Sunday - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

DT Casey Hampton - PIT - Hampton left Sunday's game with a groin injury, and coach Mike Tomlin said after the Steelers' 15-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that the veteran nose tackle could miss time due to the injury. Tomlin said the Steelers will know more about Hampton after evaluating him on Monday.

DE Jason Taylor - WAS - Taylor will be out for this week's Dallas game after having blood released from his left calf muscle, Coach Jim Zorn said on Monday. Taylor was kicked in the calf during the second quarter in yesterday's game vs. Arizona, but returned to play the entire game. He did not realize he had a problem until last night, Zorn said, when blood began to pool in the leg. "He'll be fine," Zorn said. "It's about healing now." Zorn could not say whether Taylor would be back for the following week against Philadelphia.

Inside Linebacker

ILB Eric Alexander - NE - Alexander was inactive on Sunday due to his sore calf (listed as questionable to play on Friday).

ILB Nick Barnett - GB - Barnett suffered a bruised elbow during the game on Sunday, and missed some series before returning.

ILB Dan Connor - CAR - Connor left the game after a first-quarter punt return with a left knee sprain. He didn't return to action, and will be evaluated further as the week goes along.

ILB Jordon Dizon - DET - Dizon missed the game on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday's injury report due to his injured neck.

ILB Jeff Ulbrich - SF - Ulbrich suffered an ankle injury of unspecified severity during the game on Sunday - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

OLB Scott Fujita - NO - Fujita missed the game on Sunday as expected (knee, out on Friday's injury report).

OLB Louis Green - DEN - Green was inactive on Sunday due to his sore hamstring (listed as questionable to play on Friday).

OLB Nick Greisen - BAL - Greisen sat out of the game on Sunday due to a thigh contusion (listed as questionable to play on Friday).

CB R.W. McQuarters - NYG - McQuarters missed the game on Sunday due to his injured calf (listed as doubtful on Friday).

CB Fred Smoot - WAS - Smoot was limited to a handful of plays on Sunday as he tries to recover from a lingering hip injury. Smoot was still hobbled by the painful ailment and saw little playing time. He was unable to practice fully last week and hopes to make more progress this week. "I still got to really get back in there," Smoot said. "The hip is worse than I thought, actually, trying to get back from it, but it's just going to keep on getting better."

CB Shawntae Spencer - SF - Spencer was sidelined on Sunday due to his sore knee (listed as out on Friday).

CB Scott Starks - JAX - Starks injured his right knee in the second half on Sunday, but the extent of his injury is unknown. Starks was wearing a brace on his right knee in the locker room - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

CB Donald Strickland - SF - Strickland missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee (listed as questionable on Friday).

CB Patrick Surtain - KC - Surtain missed the game on Sunday due to his sore shoulder (listed as out on Friday).

S Dashon Goldson - SF - Goldson suffered a shoulder sprain late in the game on Sunday and did not return to action. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

S Dexter Jackson - CIN - Jackson was inactive on Sunday due to his injured thumb (listed as out on Friday).

S Herana-Daze Jones - CIN - Jones was out on Sunday as expected (hamstring injury).

S Sean Jones - CLE - Jones was out on Sunday as expected (knee, listed as out on Friday).

S Dawan Landry - BAL - Landry sustained what the team is calling a spinal cord concussion near the end of the first half of Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns - initial reports suggest he did not suffer any serious, permanent injury, but evaluations are ongoing.

S Keith Lewis - SF - Lewis tweaked his knee on kickoff coverage early in the game but returned late in the contest - initial indications are that the injury isn't serious.

S Marlon McCree - DEN - McCree suffered a stinger in his neck late in the fourth quarter on Sunday - he should be fine, but will be evaluated further as the week goes along.

S Brandon McGowan - CHI - McGowan's season is over after being placed on IR due to his injured ankle.

S Reggie Nelson - JAX - Nelson sustained an unspecified injury during the game on Sunday.

S Bob Sanders - IND - Sanders was out on Sunday after being listed as "out" on Friday due to his injured ankle and knee.
