Week 14 Early Injury Report

by Mark Wimer, Exclusive to Footballguys.com

Quarterback

QB Derek Anderson - CLE - Anderson sprained his left MCL on Sunday, and may be done for the season. Ken Dorsey will start for the injury-ravaged Browns in week 14. "It didn't look good with him coming off,'' Browns coach Romeo Crennel said after the game. "I'm not encouraged by the way he came off the field." Further examinations on Anderson's knee are scheduled for this week - but initial indications are not good.

QB Trent Edwards - BUF - Edwards was sidelined by a groin injury for the second half of Buffalo's game against San Francisco on Sunday. The team said he was going to be out "indefinitely" due to the injury - further evaluations are ongoing as of Monday morning. "I was trying to work through it after the first couple of series," Edwards said. "I got knocked down a couple of times and tried to get back up and work through it. It was just kind of aggravating it here and there a little bit more throughout the course of the game and at the end of the first half on that last kind of rollout was when it really put it over the top for me. I came back in here and was talking to our trainers and talking to our coaches and was telling them what I was going through. We made the call to just shut it down." Edwards' status for the next game is up in the air as of Monday.

QB Brian Griese - TB - Griese was out of action on Sunday after being listed as questionable to play on Friday (right elbow injury).

QB Carson Palmer - CIN - Palmer was inactive on Sunday due to his ongoing right elbow problems (listed as out on Friday). "If it's surgery, it's surgery. If it's not it's not," Palmer said after the game on Sunday. "I am just hoping I am able to throw, and that there is some improvement in my elbow and that I can have some zip on the ball [vs. Indianapolis next week]."

Running Back

RB Marion Barber - DAL - Barber departed Thursday's game with a dislocated little toe on his right foot. Subsequent examinations revealed no fracture - he is currently considered day-to-day and is receiving treatment on the injury in hope of his being able to play vs. Pittsburgh.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw - NYG - Bradshaw was inactive on Sunday due to his neck injury, after being listed as questionable to play on Friday.

RB Ryan Grant - GB - Grant played most of the first half on Sunday, before being forced from the game with a sprained right thumb. Grant said he could have gone back in but he and the coaches decided it would be better if he didn't, due to the pain and swelling. Coach Mike McCarthy commented that the injury negatively impacted Grant's ball security. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along. In Grant's absence, Brandon Jackson played well - if Grant is out this week, Jackson would likely see the bulk of the work at RB.

RB Steven Jackson - STL - Jackson is reportedly irritated with Coach Jim Haslett for describing him as "gassed" during the 4th quarter (Jackson was pulled early in the period for his backups), and denied that his thigh was limiting him late in the game. However, Jackson reported that his thigh was "a little tight and sore." But he insisted he suffered no setback. "I've just got to ice it tonight and make sure it doesn't swell up like what happened a couple of weeks ago when I tried to go," he said. "I think we've kind of got a feel for what we need to do through the year to make sure I can still play." Stay tuned as the week goes by to see how the quadricep responds to Jackson's first extended game time action in several weeks.

RB Willis McGahee - BAL - McGahee was active, but did not play, on Sunday after not appearing on the Friday injury report. Coach Jim Harbaugh indicated after the game that McGahee was not injured: "It's strategic," Harbaugh said. "We have a plan for Willis. He's going to be a big part of this team, no question about it. Willis can play, and he will play. We are going to put him in the best situation to play, just like we are with Le'Ron and Ray."

RB Jason McKie - CHI - McKie was inactive on Sunday night due to his injured quadricep (listed as questionable on Friday). Reports on Monday morning indicate that he may land on IR as a result of the injury.

RB Willie Parker - PIT - Parker was able to play through his sore knee and gained 87 yards on the ground. "I came out great and I feel good," Parker said. "I am not where I need to be, but I feel a lot better. I never thought I would be happy with something like [splitting time at the position with Mewelde Moore]. I think that is the perfect thing for me right now. It's a good thing for the team, helping this team out."

RB Jonathan Stewart - CAR - Stewart's left hamstring cramped up on a 43-yard run in the 2nd quarter on Sunday, and he didn't play much after the injury. "I cramped up right when I burst through the hole," Stewart said. "My left hammy just tightened up. I tried to keep running. I think it was because it was cold and I wasn't warmed up properly because I'd been sitting on the sidelines for awhile. It's a lesson learned." The injury is considered minor as of Monday morning, but keep an eye on Stewart's practice participation later in the week.
