Week 13 Early Injury Report

by Mark Wimer, Exclusive to Footballguys.com

Quarterback

QB Marc Bulger - STL - Bulger was under center for just five plays in the 27-3 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. He exited after being slammed to the turf on a sack during the 1st quarter. Coach Jim Haslett said Bulger suffered a concussion and would be evaluated "after we run tests" on Monday. Bulger, who missed two games last season because of a concussion, left before speaking with reporters after the game.

QB Jake Delhomme - CAR - Delhomme took a hit to his throwing arm elbow vs. Atlanta, but indicated after the game that the injury is minor and just a little sore: "I felt like I threw better after the hit, so I think it might have helped," Delhomme said.

QB Gus Frerotte - MIN - Frerotte was hit hard many times on Sunday, and was beat up after the game, as he put it: "I'm a little beat-up." None of the bumps and bruises are considered serious at this time.

QB Brian Griese - TB - Griese continues to land on the inactive list due to his sore elbow (listed as questionable to play on Friday).

QB Dan Orlovsky - DET - Orlovsky was inactive on Sunday as expected due to his right hand injury - he was listed as "out" on Friday.

QB Carson Palmer - CIN - Palmer still isn't ready to get back in the game, according to head coach Marvin Lewis: "Well, his status is changing; it's been good," Lewis said last Friday. "Like I said before, it's been pretty positive, and maybe I can give you a little more information on that Wednesday...Chances are slim that he would play against Baltimore."

QB Brady Quinn - CLE - Quinn played with a fractured index finger on his right hand, but was ineffective and ended up getting the early hook in the 3rd quarter. After the game, coach Romeo Crennel indicated that Quinn's injury does limit what he can do with the ball, but also insisted that Quinn is still the team's starter. For his part, Quinn was irked that he got pulled from the game: "Uh, yeah," he said [when asked if he was annoyed]. "Come on, I'm in this game to play. After that last one, I didn't really have any inclination I was on such a short leash. The fourth quarter is where games are won or lost and I just wish I would've been able to be in there to have a chance."

QB Tony Romo - DAL - Romo is still fighting soreness in his injured pinky finger - "I don't know if I could aggressively make all the throws I made tonight without the splint on, just because it's holding it in," Romo said, "and I don't have to use the whole finger, just the top part. I would imagine I'll use it one more game unless it feels great... But it was still painful this week when I took it off."

QB Matt Schaub - HOU - Schaub was inactive on Sunday as expected after being listed as out on Friday (knee injury).

QB Drew Stanton - DET - Stanton played in relief of Daunte Culpepper briefly on Sunday, but suffered a concussion and was forced from the game due to the injury. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along, and will have to pass the NFL's baseline test before returning to active duty.

Running Back

RB Correll Buckhalter - PHI - Buckhalter went down with a medial collateral ligament injury in his knee on Sunday, forcing Brian Westbrook to play the rest of the game as the Eagles' only running back (Lorenzo Booker wasn't active). The Eagles will evaluate Buckhalter further as the week goes along, but initial indications are not encouraging. "Buckhalter has a sprained MCL," coach Andy Reid said on Monday, referring to the medial collateral ligament in his knee. "He had to have an MRI this morning."

RB Reggie Bush - NO - Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com is reporting that New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush is expected to be inactive for the team's Monday night match-up with the Green Bay Packers in week 12. There are conflicting reports that he may play, though - his status is up in the air as of Monday morning.

RB Jerome Felton - DET - Felton was active, but did not play, after being listed as probable on Friday (ankle injury).

RB Ahman Green - HOU - Green limped off the field in the 3rd quarter on Sunday, and didn't return to action. An MRI is scheduled on Monday for Green's left knee, coach Gary Kubiak revealed after the game. "Unfortunately, Ahman is down," Kubiak said. "It looks like it could be a few weeks, just talking to (head team trainer) Kevin (Bastin)."

Green described the injury after the game: "My knee went one way, my foot went the other way. I got up. I didn't feel any pain. I just felt a lot of looseness. I wasn't in pain. It was just a weird feeling when I came off the field. I've always been a fast healer. So hopefully I can get back for the Monday night game, if not the next game."

RB Steven Jackson - STL - Jackson was inactive on Sunday as expected after being listed as out on Friday (thigh injury). He hasn't been on the field since the week 9 game vs. Arizona.

RB Brandon Jacobs - NYG - Jacobs was inactive on Sunday despite being listed as probable to play on Friday (knee injury). Jacobs didn't suit up for the game. "I wrestled with that a lot," Jacobs said after the contest. "That was probably more of the reason I was going to play than anything else. But I came to my senses. I talked to a few guys on the team who were like, Man, look, if you feel like you can't go, if you're going to be out there holding back, sit down."

RB Felix Jones - DAL - Jones was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his injured hamstring and also a toe surgery. He was listed as "out" on Friday. On Saturday Jones had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left big toe - he'll continue to reside on the sidelines, it appears.

RB LaMont Jordan - NE - Jordan missed the game on Sunday as expected after being listed as doubtful on Friday (calf injury).

RB Sammy Morris - NE - Morris was shaken up during the game on Sunday - the injury isn't considered serious at this time.

RB Willie Parker - PIT - Parker, who missed 4 games earlier this season with a sprained MCL in his left knee, sat out most of the second half vs. Cincinnati. Coach Mike Tomlin said Parker "tweaked" his knee against the Bengals - the injury is not thought to be serious. However, it was another shortened appearance for Parker - he is trying his fantasy owners' nerves this year.

RB Clinton Portis - WAS - Portis suffered through a strained hip muscle vs. Seattle, but played through the pain - he's also fighting through a sore knee to stay on the field. He's playing, but he is very banged up entering week 13.

RB Steve Slaton - HOU - Although Slaton played a lot on Sunday, he isn't 100% healthy (bruised ribs) according to his head coach Gary Kubiak: "(Green's injury) was a big problem because Steve is beat up. Going into the game, we thought it would be more of an Ahman day. (When Green was hurt) we had a problem. We had a beat-up young back who really wasn't 100 percent. And then we had a kid (Ryan Moats) who hasn't touched the ball much, and we didn't want to put him in that situation."

RB Jonathan Stewart - CAR - Stewart, who has had toe and heel problems this season, wore a protective boot on his left foot after the game vs. Atlanta. The Panthers claim the boot was precautionary, according to team spokesman Steven Drummond. When Stewart was asked what was wrong with his foot, he reportedly smiled and said, "Nothing." Keep an eye on his injury status when the official reports come out later this week.

RB Mike Tolbert - SD - Tolbert went out with a shoulder injury vs. the Colts, and was replaced by rookie Jacob Hester. The severity of the shoulder injury isn't known - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

RB Brian Westbrook - PHI - Westbrook was unable to practice on Monday after his heavy workload on Sunday, and he may be in doubt for the Thursday game due to his soreness in his aching knee and ankle (injuries that Westbrook has been playing through this year).

RB Cadillac Williams - TB - Williams closed out the 4th quarter vs. Detroit and finished with a team-high 16 carries for 27 yards in his first game back in the lineup after rehabbing a severe knee injury. "I thought the more (Williams) ran, the better he got," coach Jon Gruden said on Monday. "I thought it was very good for him. He needed that live activity for himself to get acquainted to what it's like."

RB Selvin Young - DEN - Young was inactive on Sunday as expected, after being listed as doubtful on Friday (groin injury).

WR Plaxico Burress - NYG - Burress started the game Sunday but missed most of the contest after aggravating his sore hamstring in the first offensive series vs. Arizona. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along, but unfortunately this injury looks like it has become a nagging concern. Domenik Hixon would sub for Burress if he can't go for the next contest. "I wasn't really able to stretch it out and step on the gas," Burress said. "I could feel it when I was walking a little bit. So I was like, It's not worth it for me to go out and tear it and do something stupid." Burress described his status for the Washington game as "day to day".

WR Greg Camarillo - MIA - Camarillo is out for the year. He was on crutches in the locker room after the game, wearing a large, black brace on his left leg. Camarillo said he didn't hear a pop, but the exact nature and severity of the injury had yet to be determined after the game. "Camarillo is not good - he's done [for the season]," coach Tony Sparano said Monday morning. "It's hard. You don't want to lose a player like him."

WR Terrance Copper - BAL - Copper was inactive on Sunday again, due to his neck injury (he was listed as out on Friday).
