Week 11 Early Injury Report

Quarterback
QB Matt Hasselbeck - SEA - Hasselbeck was inactive on Sunday after being listed as out on Friday, due to his ongoing struggles with his injured back and the weakness in his knee the back injury causes. Mike Holmgren said Monday morning on KIRO radio that he is "cautiously optimistic" that QB Matt Hasselbeck and WR Deion Branch can have a normal practice week and be ready for Sunday's game against Arizona. "Every indication tells me we'll have both of these guys this week," Holmgren said.
QB Dan Orlovsky - DET - Orlovsky was unable to play on Sunday as expected due to his injured right hand (he was listed as out on Friday). Orlovsky, who has two fractures and a torn ligament in his right thumb. Orlovsky is expected to see a hand specialist Monday and the team will re-assess his situation pending the results of that evaluation - don't look for Orlovsky to get back on the field any time soon.
QB Kyle Orton - CHI - Orton was inactive on Sunday as expected, after being listed as doubtful to play on Friday (ankle sprain). "Just like anybody's sprained ankle, it hurts when you put pressure on it," Orton said after the game. "Hopefully, we'll just continue to make the same amount of improvement this week and have a great chance to play [next] weekend."
QB Carson Palmer - CIN - Coach Marvin Lewis said Monday that he doesn't anticipate quarterback Carson Palmer practicing this week and that Ryan Fitzpatrick is to make his 6th start of the season this Sunday against the Eagles at Paul Brown Stadium.
QB Tony Romo - DAL - Romo told Peter King last Saturday that he would definitely play against Washington on Sunday night at FedEx Field. Evidently, the break is just below the top knuckle on his right little finger, and he'll play with a splint on it. "It won't be all the way healed," he said. "It's still probably a good two or three weeks away from that. I don't know where it's exactly going to be, healing-wise, in Washington, but my timing will be fine." Romo also commented that the finger "has gotten healthy enough so I could take a hit on it."
QB JaMarcus Russell - OAK - Russell was inactive on Sunday due to his recent knee problems (listed as questionable to play on Friday). Russell was slowed last week by tendinitis in his right knee, and was listed as the emergency third quarterback against the Panthers.
QB Matt Schaub - HOU - Schaub was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his knee injury (listed as out on Friday).
QB Seneca Wallace - SEA - Wallace suffered a groin injury in the first quarter on Sunday, but he continued to play. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
QB Andrew Walter - OAK - Walter played for most of the contest vs. Carolina, but struggled with his nagging calf injury at times and was sidelined for a period late in the game - Marques Tuiasosopo stepped in for Walter when he was sidelined.
Running Back
RB Reggie Bush - NO - Bush was out of the game on Sunday as expected due to his injured knee (listed as out on Friday).
RB Reuben Droughns - NYG - Droughns was inactive after waking with neck pain that could not be resolved with treatment throughout the day prior to the game vs. Philadelphia. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
RB Jerome Felton - DET - Felton was unable to play on Sunday as expected due to his injured ankle (he was listed as out on Friday).
RB Steven Jackson - STL - Jackson was inactive on Sunday after being listed as doubtful on Friday, due to his injured thigh. Asked after the game if Jackson would go next week, coach Haslett responded "I have no idea,". Some reports say Jackson is looking doubtful for Week 11 but when Jackson was interviewed before Sunday's game, he sounded more optimistic. He said that he was close to being able to play in Week 10. We'll just have to wait and see how he's able to practice.
RB Felix Jones - DAL - Jones still isn't practicing due to a hamstring injury, despite coach Phillips' expectations that he'd be able to practice after the bye week. Jones has missed the last three games due to his injury.
RB LaMont Jordan - NE - Jordan was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable to play on Friday due to his ongoing calf injury.
RB Mike Karney - NO - Karney strained a medial collateral ligament in his right knee during the game vs. Atlanta. He'll be evaluated further to determine the exact nature and severity of the injury.
RB Darren McFadden - OAK - McFadden was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his ongoing nagging toe injury (listed as questionable on Friday).
RB Willis McGahee - BAL - McGahee appears to have overcome his sore ankle (which sidelined him last week) - he posted season-highs in carries and TDs vs. Houston on Sunday.
RB Travis Minor - STL - Minor was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday, due to his ongoing struggle with a concussion/the after-effects of a concussion.
RB Sammy Morris - NE - Morris was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday (knee injury). Morris did work out on the field with the training staff three hours prior to gametime on Sunday. However, he did not practice all week, and didn't get on the field, as noted above.
RB Willie Parker - PIT - Parker was unable to play on Sunday as expected due to his injured shoulder (he was listed as doubtful on Friday). Parker may need surgery to his injured shoulder after the season, but he's likely to play against the San Diego Chargers next Sunday according to reports out of Pittsburgh. Parker has a torn labrum in his shoulder, according to some reports, and will be fitted with a harness in order to get back on the field. However, Parker is contesting the reports characterizing his injury as a torn labrum as of Monday morning. Stay Tuned...
RB Antonio Pittman - STL - Pittman played despite a sore hamstring inflicted vs. Arizona last week - "I thought he ran hard," Haslett said. "He did hold on to the football. The reason he started was he practiced Friday, he felt good Saturday. And we felt he deserved the opportunity to start based off what he did the last couple weeks."
RB Aaron Stecker - NO - Stecker suffered a strained hamstring during the game vs. Atlanta - the extent of the injury isn't currently known. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
RB Ryan Torain - DEN - Torain has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on Thursday night. One of Torain's agents, Troy Asmus, said Friday afternoon that an MRI exam confirmed the injury. Asmus said the initial diagnosis was that Torain suffered a "clean tear" and that he should be ready for the training camp of 2009. Obviously, this season is over for Torain.
RB Leonard Weaver - SEA - Weaver suffered a rib injury in the first half on Sunday and did not return to action - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
RB Brian Westbrook - PHI - Westbrook appeared to tweak his groin during the game Sunday night, but returned to action. No comments on his injury status were issued after the game.
RB Selvin Young - DEN - Young re-injured his groin during the team's Week 10 game. He did not return to action, and will be evaluated further this week.
Wide Receiver
WR Deion Branch - SEA - Branch was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday, due to his injured heel. Mike Holmgren said on Monday morning on KIRO radio that he is "cautiously optimistic" that QB Matt Hasselbeck and WR Deion Branch can have a normal practice week and be ready for Sunday's game against Arizona. WR Andre Davis - HOU - Davis missed another game on Sunday as expected (finger injury, out on Friday).
WR Roy Hall - IND - Hall missed another game on Sunday due to his ongoing struggle with a sore knee (listed as questionable to play on Friday).
WR Dwayne Jarrett - CAR - Jarrett was inactive on Sunday after being listed as probable to play on Friday (hip injury).
WR Brandon Lloyd - CHI - Lloyd was inactive on Sunday, despite being listed as probable to play on Friday. "Who do I have to lobby?" Lloyd said. "When the head coach feels comfortable putting me out there, he'll put me out there." Lloyd practiced all week leading up to Sunday's game. "I felt really good," he said, "and felt ready to play."
WR Derrick Mason - BAL - Mason suffered a shoulder injury (dislocated left shoulder) and was sidelined for a lengthy portion of the game vs. Houston, but eventually returned to action. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
WR Justin McCareins - TEN - McCareins suffered a head injury during the game vs. Chicago and didn't return to action - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
WR Randy Moss - NE - Moss was bothered by a left foot injury during practices prior to the Bills game, but played as usual on Sunday. He appeared to have tweaked his ankle on an incomplete pass early in the 3rd quarter on Sunday. He only took one play off before returning to action, though.
WR Josh Reed - BUF - Reed was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his ankle injury (listed as out on Friday).
WR Chaz Schilens - OAK - Schilens suffered a high right ankle sprain during the game on Sunday - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along, but unfortunately high ankle sprains are usually more severe than other types of ankle complaints - the severity of this sprain isn't currently known.
WR Derek Stanley - STL - Stanley left the game briefly in the 1st quarter after tweaking a pre-existing ankle injury, but did return to action. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
WR Mike Walker - JAX - Walker was listed as probable on Friday (knee injury), but was inactive on Sunday.
Tight End
TE Darnell Dinkins - CLE - Dinkins has a rib-area muscle that's being looked at - his status for the next game isn't known as of Monday.
TE Casey Fitzsimmons - DET - Fitzsimmons was unable to play on Sunday as expected due to his injured ribs (he was listed as out on Friday).
TE Bubba Franks - NYJ - Franks missed the game on Sunday as expected (listed as out on Friday due to his hip injury).
TE Todd Heap - BAL - Heap finally made a contribution to the Raven's passing attack, catching his first TDs since week 2 of last season - "At the beginning of the season, I wasn't as healthy as I've been in the past," he said. "I've been getting healthier and healthier as the season has gone on."
TE Will Heller - SEA - Heller was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday, due to his injured knee.
TE Heath Miller - PIT - Miller was unable to play on Sunday as expected due to his injured ankle (he was listed as out on Friday).
TE Garrett Mills - MIN - Mills was sidelined on Sunday due to his sore ankle (listed as questionable on Friday).
TE Tom Santi - IND - Santi was inactive on Sunday despite being listed as probable to play on Friday (shoulder injury).
TE Bo Scaife - TEN - Scaife suffered a contusion on his cheek during the game on Sunday, but stayed in the action: "I got my helmet knocked off and he snuck one on me," Scaife said after the game. "I see how it looks now, but that's OK, I'm still pretty. He [Adewale Ogunleye] feels a lot worse than I do."
TE Jeremy Shockey - NO - Shockey sprained an ankle during the game vs. Atlanta, and looked out of synch with QB Drew Brees when on the field (Brees screamed at Shockey on the sidelines at one point). Eventually, TE Billy Miller took over at TE while Shockey sat on the bench. Shockey's injury will be evaluated further as the week goes along.
TE Daniel Wilcox - BAL - Wilcox was sidelined on Sunday due to illness (he was listed as doubtful to play on Friday).
Kicker
PK Mike Nugent - NYJ - Nugent was sidelined again on Sunday due to his ongoing right thigh woes (he was listed as questionable to play on Friday).
Offensive Line
OL Buffalo Bills - BUF - G Brad Butler was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his knee injury (listed as out on Friday).
OL Miami Dolphins - MIA - G Justin Smiley injured his shoulder during the game on Sunday - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along. "He just got that shoulder dinged a little bit. He came out of there, we put [Matt] McChesney [G] in, we scored, and then Justin went right back in again." said coach Sparano after the contest.
OL Philadelphia Eagles - PHI - G Shawn Andrews missed the game on Sunday night as expected, after being listed as out on Friday due to his injured back.
OL Atlanta Falcons - ATL - T Sam Baker was out of the game on Sunday as expected due to his injured hip and surgically repaired back (listed as out on Friday).
OL Detroit Lions - DET - C Dominic Raiola was inactive on Sunday after being listed as out on Friday (hand injury - he has a broken right thumb and can't handle the ball effectively).
OL Carolina Panthers - CAR - C Ryan Kalil re-injured his sprained ankle early in the game on Sunday and did not return to action. Kalil, who had missed three games prior to the bye week, was replaced by Geoff Hangartner at the C position. Kalil will be evaluated further as the week goes along.
OL Oakland Raiders - OAK - C Jake Grove hurt his calf in the 2nd quarter on Sunday and did not return to action. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
OL New Orleans Saints - NO - C Jonathan Goodwin was out of the game on Sunday as expected due to his injured knee (listed as out on Friday).
OL New Orleans Saints - NO - RT Jon Stinchcomb strained his right calf during the game on Sunday and had to be assisted off the field. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
OL Pittsburgh Steelers - PIT - OT Marvel Smith was inactive on Sunday due to his back injury - he was listed as out on Friday.
Defensive Tackle
DT Red Bryant - SEA - Bryant was inactive on Sunday after being listed as out on Friday, due to his injured ankle.
DT John Henderson - JAX - Henderson was unable to play on Sunday as expected due to his injured knee (he was listed as out on Friday).
DT Daniel Muir - IND - Muir was inactive on Sunday due to his sore hamstring (listed as questionable to play on Friday).
DT Amobi Okoye - HOU - Okoye was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his ankle injury (listed as doubtful on Friday).
DT Shaun Rogers - CLE - Rogers was pretty sore Friday after suffering a stinger in the game, according to coach Crennel.
DT Darwin Walker - CAR - Walker was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his neck injury (listed as out on Friday).
Defensive End
DE John Abraham - ATL - Abraham was in and out of the game on Sunday due to getting kicked in the head late in the first half, and then suffering a stinger in his left shoulder during the second half - he did return to action after both minor injuries, though.
DE Jared Allen - MIN - Allen was active despite being listed as doubtful to play on Friday (shoulder injury). "I came and talked to Coach [Brad Childress] and said, "Hey, let me give it a shot," Allen said after the game. Allen had a tight shoulder wrap and a pain-killing injection prior to the game.
DE Derrick Burgess - OAK - Burgess was inactive on Sunday again as expected, due to his triceps injury (listed as doubtful on Friday).
DE Jared DeVries - DET - Lions coach Rod Marinelli said after the game vs. Jacksonville that it's feared DeVries has a broken hand and will require surgery - his season would be over if the initial prognosis is confirmed with further testing.
DE Tamba Hali - KC - Hali suffered a knee injury during the game vs. San Diego - Hali exited the locker room Sunday wearing a walking boot, and he'll have an MRI on his right leg later this week. Initial indications are not good, folks.
DE Brian Johnston - KC - Johnston suffered a calf injury during the game on Sunday - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
DE Patrick Kerney - SEA - Kerney was inactive on Sunday after being listed as on out Friday, due to his injured shoulder.
DE Turk McBride - KC - McBride was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable to play on Friday (shoulder injury).
DE Eric Moore - STL - Moore was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday, due to his injured spine.
DE Aaron Schobel - BUF - Schobel was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his foot injury (listed as out on Friday).
DE Kyle Vanden Bosch - TEN - Vanden Bosch was inactive on Sunday due to his injured groin (listed as questionable to play on Friday).
DE Dewayne White - DET - White suffered a leg injury early in the game on Sunday and didn't return to action - he injured his calf and may be sidelined for quite a while, according to early reports out of Detroit. White will be evaluated further as the week goes along, but initial indications are not good.
Inside Linebacker
ILB Eric Alexander - NE - Alexander was inactive on Sunday due to his injured hamstring, after being listed as questionable on Friday.
ILB Nick Barnett - GB - Barnett suffered a knee injury during the game vs. Minnesota and was forced to the sidelines. "It felt like it got messed up," Barnett said. "I knew (it was something), it just hurt. I shot through some blockers and he (Peterson) cut back so I tried to make a last minute rally on him and I hit it just right." Barnett will be evaluated further on Monday - the exact nature and severity of the injury isn't currently known, but initial indications are not encouraging.
ILB Jonathan Goff - NYG - Goff left in the 2nd quarter with a concussion suffered on special teams - he will be evaluated further as the week goes along.
ILB David Harris - NYJ - Harris missed the game on Sunday as expected (listed as out on Friday due to his groin injury/the surgical repair of said injury).
ILB Patrick Thomas - KC - Thomas injured his hamstring on Sunday - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
ILB Nate Webster - DEN - Webster suffered a second-degree injury to his medial collateral ligament in his left knee during Thursday night's game. Webster was replaced by Niko Koutouvides.
ILB Will Witherspoon - STL - Witherspoon absorbed a hard blow to the head early in the 2nd quarter on Sunday, but returned after missing only one series. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
Outside Linebacker
OLB Colin Allred - TEN - Allred missed the game on Sunday after being listed as questionable to play on Friday (groin injury).
OLB Ricky Brown - OAK - Brown was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his groin injury (listed as doubtful on Friday).
OLB Brandon Chillar - GB - Chillar's shoulder injury flared up at the end of the week or practices and he was not able to suit up vs. Minnesota. The Packers were down to just 3 active LBs after Nick Barnett went out due to a knee injury in the first half - they are banged up at the position.
OLB Zach Diles - HOU - Diles has been lost for the season after being placed on IR last week.
OLB Chris Draft - STL - Draft was inactive on Sunday after being listed as out on Friday, due to his injured foot.
OLB David Hawthorne - SEA - Hawthorne was inactive on Sunday after being listed as out on Friday, due to his injured calf.
OLB Hunter Hillenmeyer - CHI - Hillenmeyer was inactive on Sunday after being listed as probable to play on Friday (thumb injury).
OLB Derrick Johnson - KC - Johnson was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable to play on Friday (thigh injury).
OLB Shaun Phillips - SD - Phillips limped off the field after tweaking his ankle late in the 2nd quarter. He had the ankle taped at half, though, and played the entire second half - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
OLB Adalius Thomas - NE - Thomas has a broken arm, according to various reports after the Patriots/Bills game - there are conflicting reports as to which limb is broken, however. In any case, he is likely to be sidelined for much of the rest of the season (or all of the rest of the season), depending on the severity of the injury. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along, but initial indications are not encouraging.
OLB Chaun Thompson - HOU - Thompson missed the game on Sunday despite being listed as probable on Friday (hamstring injury).
OLB Gerris Wilkinson - NYG - Wilkinson missed the game on Sunday night as expected, after being listed as out on Friday due to his injured knee.
OLB Lamarr Woodley - PIT - Woodley was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday due to his calf injury.
Cornerback
CB Jarrett Bush - GB - Bush suffered a left ankle injury during the game on Sunday and didn't return to action - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
CB Kevin Dockery - NYG - Dockery missed the game on Sunday night as expected, after being listed as out on Friday due to his injured back.
CB Brandon Flowers - KC - Flowers was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable to play on Friday (thigh injury).
CB Aaron Glenn - NO - Glenn hobbled off the field late in the game on Sunday, but there was no mention of his injury on the post game report - if you have him on your DB roster, keep an eye on his practice status later in the week.
CB Charles Gordon - MIN - Gordon is feared lost for the season after a gruesome ankle injury suffered vs. Green Bay. Gordon's left ankle appeared to have been completely twisted around. "We saw when he was laying down his foot was turned the wrong way," Vikings safety Darren Sharper said after the game on Sunday.
CB Cletis Gordon - SD - Gordon made his first career start on Sunday but suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee six plays into the game and did not return to action. He is expected to miss at least one game and possibly two, according to initial estimates. Gordon will be evaluated further as the week goes along.
CB Nick Harper - TEN - Harper tweaked an ankle during the game on Sunday and didn't return to action - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
CB Kelvin Hayden - IND - Hayden missed another game on Sunday due to his nagging hamstring injury (listed as questionable to play on Friday).
CB Tye Hill - STL - Hill was inactive on Sunday after being listed as out on Friday, due to his injured knee.
CB Chris McAlister - BAL - McAlister missed another game on Sunday as expected (knee, out on Friday).
CB Bryant McFadden - PIT - McFadden was unable to play on Sunday as expected due to his injured forearm (he was listed as out on Friday).
CB Mike McKenzie - NO - McKenzie fractured his right kneecap during Sunday's loss to Atlanta. He will visit Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., this week for further evaluations and tests - season-ending surgery is considered likely.
CB Lewis Sanders - NE - Sanders was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his hamstring injury (listed as doubtful on Friday).
CB Keith Smith - DET - Smith went down to a groin injury in the 2nd half on Sunday and didn't return to action. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
CB Patrick Surtain - KC - Surtain was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable to play on Friday (quadricep injury).
CB Deshea Townsend - PIT - Townsend's right hamstring was injured in the third quarter vs. Indianapolis. He walked slowly off the field and did not return to action - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along. "When you play corner, and you see a guy go down like that, it is generally not good," coach Mike Tomlin said. "We will cross our fingers."
CB Terrence Wheatley - NE - Wheatley was inactive on Sunday as expected, due to his wrist injury (listed as out on Friday).
CB Ashton Youboty - BUF - Youboty landed on IR before the game on Sunday, due to his troublesome foot injury - he's done for the season now.
Safety
S James Butler - NYG - Butler missed the game on Sunday night as expected, after being listed as out on Friday due to his injured knee.
S Nick Collins - GB - Collins (turf toe) came out of the game during the first half on Sunday but returned to action - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
S Steve Gregory - SD - Gregory suffered a stinger during the first half on Sunday and did not return to action - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
S Sean Jones - CLE - Jones still has some swelling in his scoped knee but should be okay next week, according to coach Crennel.
S Dawan Landry - BAL - Landry missed another game on Sunday as expected (neck injury, out on Friday).
S DaJuan Morgan - KC - Morgan was inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable to play on Friday (thigh injury).
S Dwight Smith - DET - Smith was unable to play on Sunday as expected due to his injured foot (he was listed as out on Friday).
S Eric Smith - NYJ - Smith missed the game on Sunday as expected (listed as out on Friday due to his head injuries - he's suffered multiple concussions recently).
