QB Tom Brady (NE) has been lost for the season after being placed on the injured reserve list with a torn ACL.
QB Matt Cassel (NE) will start for the team in place of the injured Tom Brady.
After Sunday's game, coach Bill Belichick had this to say about Cassel's day:
"It was good. It could have been better, but I thought he handled the team well and made some accurate throws. I thought that was a big play coming off the goal line. He hit [Randy] Moss. That was right in front of me. I got a good look at that one. He made a great throw on that coming out of the end-zone. I thought overall, he threw the ball pretty well. He managed the team well. We didn't have a lot of misaligned plays and miscommunications. There is a lot of room for improvement but I thought he stepped in and did a good job."
Looking forward, Belichick was cautiously optimistic:
"Matt has grown up through the system," Belichick said. "He's expanded his knowledge of the offense as the offense has expanded through the years. He ran it a lot in preseason this year, and of course, in training camp from the time that Tom missed.
"I think he's capable of handling himself in a lot of different situations because he's been through them. It's not just chalk talk, it's actually going out there and doing it on the field and doing it in practice situations. I think he showed that yesterday, that he can go out there and manage the game and manage the team."
*** Friday Update ***
QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play in Week 2. Although he's doing the Bill Belichick sounding cagey thing. "Taking it a day at a time. It's still Friday, still got a couple of days so we're making progress," Roethlisberger said. We expect him to start.
*** Thursday Update ***

*** Thursday Update ***
QB Seneca Wallace (SEA) has been practicing at wide receiver this week. While the Seahawks have signed receivers Billy McMullen and Samie Parker, Wallace is at least familiar with the system and could contribute this week. "How we use him will kind of tie in with how the new guys fit in," HC Mike Holmgren said. "It's an interesting thing." Wallace may also even dip into punt returning, but that won't be determined until the end of the week.
QB Seneca Wallace (SEA) Wallace's name has been discussed in some circles as a possible gap-stop WR for the Seahawks until some of their veteran WRs can get healthy. However, none of this speculation has originated from team officials.
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Jamie Martin (SF) has been signed by the team.

QB J.T. OSullivan (SF) received good words from OC Mike Martz on Thursday. "J.T. played exceptionally well," Martz said. *** Wednesday Update ***

QB Jeff Garcia (TB) Brian Griese could stick all season as the team’s starting QB, according to reporters that cover the team. The Buccaneers have reportedly made several calls letting teams know Garcia is available for trade.
*** Friday Update ***
QB Jeff Garcia (TB) partially participated in Friday's practice and is questionable to be available to play in Week 2. He will not start.
On Thursday, Garcia said that his injured ankle would not prevent him from playing on Sunday. Garcia spoke to the media and gave his reaction to HC Jon Gruden's decision to start Brian Griese on Sunday against Atlanta. "Well, I think any time you're not going to be the guy on the field it is not an easy thing to take in. I'm a competitive guy and I just want to help this team win," Garcia said. "If that means that I need to focus on getting myself physically right and making sure everything is together. Then that is what I need to do. That is what Coach Gruden wants me to do. That is what I am going to focus on and I am going to support my teammates, support Brian [Griese], and just be there and be ready to go. I can't fight that right now. Right now having only played one game, I would've liked to have been given the opportunity to battle through whatever I'm going through. But coach made that decision early in the week, so I have to live with it."

*** Thursday Update ***
QB Vince Young (TEN) did not practice on Thursday. Young took questions from reporters for 16 minutes after watching his teammates practice. He looked upbeat and positive. He did not look like a guy that wanted to quit playing football. He stressed that his commitment to football should not be questioned. "Football, this is my life. This is my dream. All I did all these years growing up to get to this point and never had an injury like this before in my life," he said. "It's a hard time because I'm a competitor, and I definitely want to be out on the football field with my teammates." HC Jeff Fisher said that Young will have to earn his staring job back after he recovers from his knee injury. "Obviously he has some work to do," Fisher said. "He has to put some things back in perspective, and first and foremost he has to get healthy."
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Vince Young (TEN) reportedly told individuals close to him on Monday night that he has lost the desire to play professional football. "Vince has gone through a whole lot as a young person," Felicia Young, his mother, said. "And I think he has done pretty well up to this point. But it is hard, all he is going through right now. He's hurting inside and out. But he will be fine if people are prayerful and help my baby boy out. He is a young man. He just needs a lot of love and support."
Young did not practice on Wednesday. He will miss two to four weeks with his MCL sprain. Young reported to team facilities on Wednesday with a wrap on his injured left knee. Despite recent reports questioning Young's desire to continue to play in the NFL, his teammates were supportive. After speaking with Young during practice Wednesday, LB Keith Bulluck said he knows Young will be OK: "Being his third year I'm sure he has a lot on his plate like we all do. I know he'll rebound, and we'll be all right."
QB Vince Young (TEN) Concerns about the well-being of Vince Young prompted an early morning meeting at Titans headquarters. Metro police officers and HC Jeff Fisher gathered at Baptist Sports Park around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to meet with Young after trying to locate him. According to sources, questions about Young's state of mind began when the quarter back left his home abruptly at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Titans' officials alerted Metro police to be on the lookout for Young's SUV. Sources tell News 2 that Fisher eventually made contact with Young and told him to meet at Baptist Sports Park. After Fisher spoke with Young, sources say it seemed concerns about Young's state of mind were unfounded. However, this comes on the heels of the news that Vince Young tried to take himself out of Sunday's game a few plays before injuring his knee. Early reports are that he will miss two to four weeks.
However, there have been some whispers about how serious Young's knee injury really is. Some have speculated that the injury is an excuse for Young to sit out. Young was scheduled for an MRI on Monday but rescheduled it for Tuesday with no explanation. The team said on Tuesday that the MRI showed MCL damage and that Young would miss 2-4 weeks. The team is reportedly very close to signing QB Chris Simms which should make things interesting.

RB Willis McGahee (BAL) practiced fully on Friday. He is expected to make his first appearance against the Houston Texans on Monday after missing the entire preseason with a knee injury. He said he could handle his usual 20 to 25 carries. "I want a full workload, but that's something the coaches have to figure out," McGahee said. A "full workload" doesn't appear to be in the Ravens' game plan. It's uncertain whether McGahee will even start. "As of today, he's got a role in this game," offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said Thursday. "We ultimately aren't going to know until he's practiced through the end of the week." McGahee was active and dressed in full uniform Sunday, but the Ravens didn't put him on the field. HC John Harbaugh explained that the Ravens wanted to be cautious with McGahee and his knee. From all indications, it seems as if McGahee will have to split time with two upstarts, Ray Rice and Le'Ron McClain.

His official Cowboys diagnosis: bruised ribs, apparently the good, all right, nothing-to-worry-about kind. X-rays were negative afterward, which just means nothing is broken, not to be confused with "feels good" or "going to feel good any time soon." "The type of back he is, getting a lot of hits, I'm going to say the physical, being-ready-to-do-things is probably not going to be bad," owner Jerry Jones admitted.

The Texans are deciding what to do with just Chris Taylor and Steve Slaton healthy. "My concern right now is Ahman's ankle," Kubiak said. "If it's going to be a problem then, you know, Darius [Walker] is going to be our first option." Walker is on the team's practice squad. TM New England Patriots (NE) The Patriots have not worked out any QBs in the wake of Tom Brady's torn ACL. It is speculated by some that they could bring back Matt Gutierrez, who was with the team in the preseason.
TM Seattle Seahawks (SEA) HC Mike Holmgren said he will meet with the Seahawks front office for what is a standard weekly run down of personnel. That meeting is a regular occurrence, but this one will be more pressing considering the dearth of healthy receivers on Seattle's roster. Joe Horn is probably the top veteran receiver available on the market after he asked for and was granted his release from Atlanta. Horn's agent, Ralph Vitolo, said on Monday afternoon he has not spoken to the Seahawks since last week. Another veteran receiver out there, one who has familiarity with the Seahawks system, is Koren Robinson, who is not with a team right now. Alvin Keels, Robinson's agent, said Monday he had not heard from the Seahawks yet.
Also, the Seahawks have signed free-agent punter Jon Ryan to a two-year contract after special-teams problems contributed to their defeat in Buffalo on Sunday.
And finally, the Seahawks have released RB Justin Forsett, WR Jordan Kent, and P Ryan Plackemeier. They hope to be able to add Forsett and Kent back to the practice squad.
