He said he wouldn't put himself at 100 percent just yet, but he hopes to get there by the end of the month. "I just kind of take it one day at a time, and hopefully, it gets better every day," said Shockey, who has been battling the injury since the start of training camp, when it originally was diagnosed as a groin injury. Shockey tried to play through the pain for the first three games before it became apparent that he needed surgery. Quarterback

*** Saturday Update *** QB Rex Grossman (CHI) has not officially been named the team's starting QB for Week 10, but he said on Friday that he "would be shocked not to" get the nod. "This week - it's a big week for me," Grossman added. "I was making sure that I've solidified everything."

*** Friday Update *** QB Kyle Orton (CHI) partially participated in Friday's practice but is not expected to play in Week 10. "I can't go that far,'' coach Lovie Smith said when asked if Orton did enough to be on the field Sunday. "He's making progress, this is the first day he's actually where he's able to do anything so making progress, beyond that don't know."

*** Thursday Update *** QB Kyle Orton (CHI) did not practice on Thursday. Orton was walking without a limp during a Wednesday press conference but said his ankle injury has been exaggerated and that he hopes to play Week 10. The Bears are preparing Rex Grossman to start, but Orton is leaving a window open just in case. "I don't know exactly what the timetable is going to be," he said. "I just feel like if I keep on making improvement, I certainly can't rule out this week. It's just going to go week-to-week."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Kyle Orton (CHI) did not practice on Wednesday. Orton made two things very clear Wednesday. He said that he feels fortunate his right ankle injury wasn't more severe, but also that he's not ruling himself out for Week 10 against the Titans. Orton said he will not practice Wednesday as he continues rehab. Beyond that, he considers the injury day-to-day.

QB Kyle Orton (CHI) is expected to miss at least the next four weeks while he recovers from a high ankle sprain injury sustained during the team's Week 9 game. Orton is currently expected to return to the field in time for the Bears November 30 game against the Minnesota Vikings, assuming no setbacks in his recovery. However, there are reports that Orton's injury is less serious than a high ankle sprain, which was reported by the Chicago Tribune. A source said that the injury has been exaggerated and that the team expects the recovery time to be less than four weeks. HC Lovie Smith was less than forthcoming. "I'm not playing doctor; you shouldn't, either," he said. "You should let us come and tell you once [we] know for sure exactly what the injury is. We're hopeful, I'll just say that."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Carson Palmer (CIN) said Wednesday afternoon that he will see another two doctors and a rehab specialist with in the next week. Palmer said a decision on what to do for the rest of the season is "slowly getting closer."

He was headed to a full-scale practice later in the afternoon and remains optimistic about returning for Week 11 at Washington.

*** Friday Update *** QB Daunte Culpepper (DET) Is expected to start for the team this weekend.

QB Daunte Culpepper (DET) has been signed by the team, and he could possibly start on Sunday. Dan Orlovsky has a sprained thumb on his throwing hand and will miss a few weeks, and there are murmurs that the coaching staff is not confident in Drew Stanton. All of this could leave Culpepper as the starter for the Lions in week 10.

*** Friday Update *** QB Dan Orlovsky (DET) will not play in Week 10. Orlovsky revealed today that he has two fractures and a torn ligament in his right thumb and that surgery could be necessary. Orlovsky has been ruled out for Week 10, but is still hoping to return at some point during the season. Orlovsky plans on seeing another hand specialist next week before any final decisions are made. When asked if he expected to be on the injured reserve list at this point next week, Orlovsky said: "Nothing would surprise me."

*** Thursday Update *** QB Dan Orlovsky (DET) did not practice on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Dan Orlovsky (DET) did not practice on Wednesday.

QB Dan Orlovsky (DET) sprained a ligament in his thumb on his throwing hand in Week 9 and will miss the next few weeks (and perhaps even longer). Orlovsky will have his right hand placed in a cast for the next couple weeks to see how quickly it heels before the Lions decide when he can return to action.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Aaron Rodgers (GB) partially participated in Thursday's practice.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Aaron Rodgers (GB) partially participated in Wednesday's practice.

QB Aaron Rodgers (GB) is facing criticism from his head coach for the first time in his career. Mike McCarthy was not pleased with the red zone performance of the Packers, in particular Rodgers. "We had a number of minus decisions down there. We need to do a better job of taking what the defense gives us, staying within the offense," McCarthy said. "But our decision-making was poor as a whole in the red zone, and it factored in the outcome in a number of those series."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Craig Nall (HOU) has been signed to backup Sage Rosenfels. Nall was one of three veteran quarterbacks who worked out for the Texans on Tuesday. They signed him over Tim Rattay and Bruce Gradkowski. To make room for Nall on the roster, the Texans placed defensive end N.D. Kalu on waivers.

*** Saturday Update *** QB JaMarcus Russell (OAK) will likely not play in week 10 against the Carolina Panthers, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Russell is suffering from knee tendonitis. Andrew Walter would be the starter if that is the case.

*** Friday Update *** QB JaMarcus Russell (OAK) did not practice on Friday and is questionable to play in Week 10. "I'll be ready, but I couldn't tell you," Andrew Walter said of possibly starting. "I couldn't tell you anything more about JaMarcus' health. I know they're playing it close to the vest, but that includes me too. I can't really add how he's doing. If he can go, he'll go. I'll just be a pro and, game-time decision." HC Tom Cable said the team was just being smart by sitting Russell out today. "He's got a little tendonitis, I guess," Cable said. "So it's just kind of, it's been there, had it in college, but it's acting up a little bit." There are reports that Russell is more on the doubtful side of questionable and is unlikely to play.

*** Friday Update *** QB Andrew Walter (OAK) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to be available to play in Week 10.

*** Friday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play in Week 10.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) did not practice on Thursday. Roethlisberger says he'll continue to play through a slightly separated shoulder and that he'll be sporting a brace on his left thumb most likely through the rest of the season. Roethlisberger also acknowledged that his play overall needs to improve, but that he doesn't feel a week of rest will help. "We took a week off for the bye week, and it still didn't get to 100 percent, so I don't think it would help. It's that time of year, we're halfway, it's the stretch for me, and it's time to start playing better for me." he said. It is unknown if he or backup Byron Leftwich will start Week 10.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) did not practice on Wednesday. HC Mike Tomlin acknowledged for the first time that Roethlisberger's right shoulder had not fully healed since Houston's Mario Williams first wrenched it on a sack and forced fumble in the season opener. "I'm sure his shoulder has affected him," Tomlin said. "How much has it affected him, I do not know. It really is kind of irrelevant." Tomlin added that he will determine whether to rest Roethlisberger or play him Sunday against Indianapolis based on "the information that I get from my medical personnel and how he is feeling." The MRI taken on Roethlisberger's shoulder showed no significant difference than it has all season. Tomlin still called him "day-to-day." Roethlisberger said after practice Wednesday that he wants to play against Indianapolis in Week 10, but he will have to see how his shoulder feels as the week goes along.

QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) injured his right shoulder in the Steelers' Week 9 game against Washington Monday night.

*** Friday Update *** QB Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) will not play in Week 10. Hasselbeck went through 7-on-7 drills with the scout team Friday. HC Mike Holmgren was encouraged to see Hasselbeck on the field. "His big test was on yesterday and he came through it feeling good, which allowed him to do what he did today," Holmgren said. "He wanted to do some more but they're kind of easing him into it. And then if we don't have any setbacks, knock on wood, I'll suspect he'll practice next week and has a chance to play next week."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) will not play in Week 10. HC Mike Holmgren said he does not expect Hasselbeck to miss the rest of the season - something he was beginning to think was a distinct possibility. Team doctors on Monday told Holmgren that the strength in Hasselbeck's leg, which has been depleted because of a bulging disk in his back, is returning slowly and he should be able to start practicing soon. "The feeling is he will play again this season," Holmgren said on Tuesday. "When? I don't know. But my hope is sooner rather than later." However, Holmgren said Wednesday that Hasselbeck has passed the required strength tests on his injured right knee. The team expects he will be able to return for their Week 11 game against the Cardinals.

QB Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) could return to practice this week. This would be the first time that Hasselbeck has practiced in more than a month. If he does return to practice this week, it would be in a limited role. Hasselbeck has been bothered by a bulging disk in his back as well as an injury to his knee, but both are getting better.

"We've got to see it over time in order to say Tim has arrived. I'm excited about the way he played, but let's be very clear about this: The reason he played is because he worked hard and earned (it)." *** Wednesday Update *** RB Willis McGahee (BAL) partially participated in Wednesday's practice.

RB Willis McGahee (BAL) The Ravens are unsure of who will start at RB this Sunday when the team faces the Houston Texans. In light of Ray Rice's stellar performance Sunday and Willis McGahee's lingering injury, HC Jim Harbaugh was unwilling to commit to a starter for week 10. "I don't know if we know going into the game," Harbaugh said. "We'll find out who is going to play more based on how we match up against this football team. Certainly, Ray has expanded himself with the things he can do and the confidence he builds in the coaching staff."

*** Thursday Update *** RB Jonathan Stewart (CAR) did not practice on Thursday. Stewart might not play in Week 10 against the Raiders after missing his second straight day of practice on Thursday with a heel injury. Stewart was wearing a walking boot on his left foot Thursday. They had to clean out a few things in there, apparently, and some things that were causing him the pain. The expectation is that we will have him back to play this season."

DE Patrick Kerney (SEA) flew to Alabama on Sunday and will be examined by James Andrews today in Alabama. Kerney re-injured the shoulder he underwent surgery on in the offseason.
