Quarterback
Upgrade
QB Kyle Boller, BAL -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Boller came in for Steve McNair in the fourth quarter of Week 10, arguably too late to matter against the Bengals. Boller tried to rally the Ravens and finished with modest numbers (6-8-89-0-1), but he moved the Baltimore team the best it had all day once he took over the offense. Steve McNair looks done, and Boller could easily be the starter the rest of the way. If you need a backup QB or are in a start two QB league, pick him up. He also has a good matchup against Cleveland next week.
QB Marc Bulger, STL - Bulger may be back as a fantasy force. He had his second consecutive 300-yard game yesterday, completing 27 of 33 pass attempts for 302 yards and two touchdowns (no interceptions). The Rams' offense benefited from having a healthy Steven Jackson as well as a healthy Torry Holt, and even the offensive line played well. Bulger himself also appeared healthy, as he threw the ball with zip and accuracy. If Bulger can keep up his performance from the past two games, he will be a fantasy force over the second half of the NFL season.
QB Jason Campbell, WAS - Campbell had his best game of the season, throwing for a career best three touchdowns against the Eagles. Despite not having Santana Moss, Campbell looked comfortable in the pocket (thanks in part to little pass rush) and threw well-placed passes to his journeymen receivers who reeled them in consistently. Campbell finished with over 215 yards on 23 of 34 passes but faces a tougher challenge in the Dallas defense in Week 11.
QB Brodie Croyle, KC -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Croyle entered the game early in the third quarter when Huard was shaken up, and completed 17 of his 30 pass attempts for 162 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. While those stats are not inspiring, Croyle's play was an improvement over Huard's, and Croyle could be named the starter for the remainder of the season. Croyle is more mobile than Huard, and has a stronger arm, and the Chiefs' offense will need a spark as the team challenges for the AFC West division title down the stretch of the season.
QB Jay Cutler, DEN - Last week at this time there was speculation that Cutler's lower-leg injury could keep him out of action for at least several weeks; but Cutler returned to the lineup yesterday and completed 17 of his 29 pass attempts for 192 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Cutler has a moderately difficult schedule coming up (Titans, Bears, Raiders, Chiefs), but just his getting back on the field merits an upgrade.
QB Brett Favre, GB - Brett Favre had an easy matchup against the Minnesota Viking defense and did not disappoint. The veteran passer attempted 46 passes, completing, for 351 yards and three touchdown passes. He looked very good. Favre distributed the ball to five different wide receivers, each with at least three receptions, and ten receivers total.
QB David Garrard, JAX - While Quinn Gray has done well in his absence, Garrard should be back as the starting QB for Jacksonville in week 11. Garrard has a TD pass in every game he has been in, but one this season. He has yet to throw an INT in 148 attempts. Jacksonville's next three games are SD, BUF, @IND.
QB Rex Grossman, CHI -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Rex Grossman entered the week ten game against the Oakland Raiders and looked good. He completed seven of fourteen passes for 142 yards and a touchdown against a good Oakland Raider pass defense. It is not yet known how severe the Griese shoulder injury is, but there is a good chance Grossman will start in week eleven. The former starter led the Bears to 14 second half points, and to the win. He provided a much-needed spark off of the bench.
QB Jon Kitna, DET - Jon Kitna is upgraded again in week ten. It was good to see the veteran passer have another strong fantasy game. In the contest, Kitna was 32 of 45 for 294 yards, two touchdowns to Roy Williams and two interceptions. Against a very stout Cardinal defense, Kitna was able to have a good performance, even without a running attack. The former Seahawk and Bengal is spreading the ball around to his four receivers.
QB Byron Leftwich, ATL -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - The Falcons have won two straight games, all without Byron Leftwich. Leftwich, who looked impressive in his limited action as the starting QB for the Falcons, should be back in the lineup next week vs. Tampa Bay. He may be available on the waiver wire if you're in need of a QB. His main target has been Roddy White, but he has also looked Michael Jenkins way fairly often as well as the rookie Laurent Robinson. Atlanta's next three games are TB, IND, @STL.
QB Donovan McNabb, PHI - McNabb looked much more like his old self against the Redskins, both as a passer and also with his mobility. McNabb started by connecting with Brian Westbrook on a short shovel pass for his first of four TDs on the day, later adding scoring strikes to TE LJ Smith and WR Reggie Brown. Westbrook capped McNabb's numbers (20-28-251-4-0) with a 57 yard catch and run late in the contest. McNabb looked good on short and long passes, highlighted by a 45 yard deep ball to Reggie Brown that Brown plucked out of the air inside the Washington five yard line. McNabb also added the running aspect back to his game, pulling the ball down on several occasions to rush for first downs and buy more time in the pocket. McNabb has a good matchup in Miami next week and should build from this week towards another good game against the Dolphins.
QB Ben Roethlisberger, PIT - Roethlisberger had a slow start to Week 10, but he picked up the pace once the Steelers fell behind. He put up solid numbers (23-34-278-2-1) but added 49 more yards on the ground, including a hard fought 30 yard touchdown late in the game to get the Steelers in a position to come back and beat Cleveland. He distributed the ball well to all of his receivers and continues to put up solid fantasy numbers and should be considered a strong start the rest of the season.
QB Tony Romo, DAL - Romo was at it again, once again posting a dominating performance against the New York Giants. He connected with Terrell Owens for two of his four scores as Romo posted stellar numbers (20-28-247-4-1). Romo spread the ball to seven different receivers including touchdowns to Patrick Crayton and TE Tony Curtis. He continues to be a must start and should be in every fantasy team's lineup going forward including the Redskins in Week 11.
QB JaMarcus Russell, OAK -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Both Josh McCown and Daunte Culpepper have struggled for the Raiders, and the team could soon turn to see what they have in number one pick JaMarcus Russell. In his post-game press conference, head coach Lane Kiffin indicated that Russell will probably see some action in the next two weeks, although he would probably not start.
QB Matt Schaub, HOU - The bye week for Houston came at a great time for Matt Schaub. It gave him much needed time to rest and heal up for the remainder of the season. Andre Johnson is scheduled to return to the lineup in week 11, so all things point to a good second half for Schaub, especially week 11 against the Saints and their deflated passing defense. Schaub is an excellent start next week and could finish with top 10 QB numbers for the week. Houston's next three games are NO, @CLE, @TEN.
QB Kurt Warner, ARI - Warner had his best fantasy performance of the season on Sunday, completing 26 of his 36 pass attempts for 259 yards and three touchdowns (one interception, one lost fumble). Warner has a nice schedule coming up as his next three games are against the Bengals, 49ers, and Browns -- all below-average pass defenses.
QB Vince Young, TEN - In a losing effort against the Jaguars, Vince Young passed for 257 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs. He also added 8 carries for 52 yards. While these aren't great numbers for the average QB, it's an improvement for Vince Young. This was his first game of the season where he passed for more than 200 yards. We don't expect this trend to continue, but we did want to bring it to your attention. Tennessee's next three games are @DEN, @CIN, HOU.
Downgrade
QB David Carr, CAR - Carr was inactive due to a concussion he suffered last week. He doesn't belong anywhere near your starting lineup or your roster, for that matter. Vinny Testaverde started in his absence and wasn't very productive. Carolina's next three games are @GB, NO, SF.
QB Quinn Gray, JAX - With David Garrard likely returning to the starting QB role next week, Gray will go back to the bench and continue to learn more and more. Gray filled in admirably in Garrard's absence, but it's definitely Garrard's job going forward, barring another injury. Jacksonville's next three games are SD, BUF, @IND.
QB Brian Griese, CHI - Brian Griese hurt his left shoulder in the first half. There were indications that the Bears were looking for a change even before the game. Grossman led the Bears to 14 second half points after a paltry three in the first half. The former Michigan Wolverine had ten completions in fourteen attempts for 97 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. It has not been reported how serious the injury is for Griese, or who the week eleven Bear starting quarterback will be.
QB Joey Harrington, ATL - Harrington managed to do enough to get the win on the road at Carolina, but this was likely his last start for Atlanta, with Byron Leftwich likely returning from an injury next week. Atlanta's next three games are TB, IND, @STL.
QB Damon Huard, KC - Huard completed just 6 of his 15 pass attempts yesterday for 83 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions, before being knocked out of the game early in the third quarter. Huard has struggled for most of the season, and the team may turn to the more athletic Brodie Croyle over the second half of the season. Huard was not in many people's starting fantasy lineup anyway, but if the switch to Croyle becomes permanent, Huard will lose all value in standard leagues.
QB Cleo Lemon, MIA - Cleo Lemon did not play well against the Buffalo Bills. He finished the game completing 16 of 29 passes, for 131 yards. He added six rushes for 17 yards and a scoring run. With road games against the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers coming up, Lemon is not a good fantasy quarterback going forward. Plus, it is only a matter of time before the Dolphins turn to rookie Jon Beck. Cleo Lemon is not looking like a NFL starting passer.
QB Eli Manning, NYG - Manning struggled in Week 10 with the Cowboys applying consistent pressure. Manning could not find many options beyond TE Jeremy Shockey (12-129-1 receiving) as Manning failed to find Plaxico Burress for his usual deep strike for a touchdown. Manning finished with modest numbers (23-34-236-1-2), but the two interceptions and solo score against a questionable secondary should be a concern. Expect a better performance next week against Detroit.
QB Peyton Manning, IND - Manning is still a guy you have to start each week, but he's starting to feel the effects of missing Marvin Harrison. With Dallas Clark and Anthony Gonzalez also sidelined, Manning looked very human against the Chargers.
QB Josh McCown, OAK - McCown completed just 14 of 27 passes yesterday for 108 yards and no touchdowns. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble. The Raiders were unable to get their offense going with McCown at the helm, and fans are starting to call for JaMarcus Russell.
QB Steve McNair, BAL - "Air McNair" should never be mentioned again, unless it is on ESPN Classic. McNair looks completely done, and after struggling all day (17-26-128-0-1) he was pulled by head coach Brian Billick in favor of Kyle Boller. McNair could easily be done at this point and be ready to be put out to pasture.
QB Patrick Ramsey, DEN - With Cutler's return to the starting lineup, Ramsey is once again an NFL backup, not worth a fantasy roster spot in standard leagues.
QB Philip Rivers, SD - We wrote last week in this space that Rivers had one of his worst games as an NFL quarterback against the Vikings, but his performance yesterday against the Colts was every bit as bad, despite the win. Rivers, playing the second half in a heavy downpour (heavy for San Diego, at least), completed only 13 of his 24 pass attempts for 104 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions, and also fumbled twice (losing one). Rivers is not stepping into his throws the way he did last year, and looks more hesitant in his reads. This was the fifth game of the season in which he failed to break double-digit fantasy points (FBG scoring), and ended up with negative points in some scoring systems. Until further notice, Rivers probably belongs on your fantasy bench rather than in your starting lineup if you have any other decent options.
QB Sage Rosenfels, HOU - The return of Matt Schaub means Sage Rosenfels returns to the bench. He's a nice safety valve if you have Schaub, but he's only valuable if Schaub doesn't or cannot play. Houston's next three games are NO, @CLE, @TEN.
Holding steady
QB Derek Anderson, CLE - Anderson did not rack up a ton of yards in Week 10, but he did make the most of his opportunities. He took advantage of several short fields due to kick returns and threw three touchdowns on just 16 completions despite just adding up to 123 total yards. Anderson continues to put up good fantasy numbers even in weaker performances, so keep him in your lineup as better matchups loom ahead.
QB Brooks Bollinger, MIN - Brooks Bollinger finally got to start a game and he did not look good. The former Jet completed 16 of 26 passes for 176yards and an interception. It remains to be seen whether he will start next week. The Vikings quarterbacks have not played well this season. Whichever one starts is no better than a desperation play for fantasy owners.
QB Drew Brees, NO - Brees had 272 yards passing with 2 TDs and 2 INTs in a losing effort against the Rams. He started off slow, but finished strong, thanks to some end of game garbage yards. Entering the game, Brees had 11 TD passes and only 1 INT in his last four games. The Saints did struggle this week against previously winless St. Louis, but Brees remains a good fantasy start each week. New Orleans' next three games are @HOU, @CAR, TB.
QB J.P. Losman, BUF - J.P. Losman did not look good, even with a good matchup against the winless Miami Dolphins. Losman completed 12 of 23 passes for 157 yards and an interception thrown into the end zone. The Bills play the Patriots in week eleven, which is not a good matchup. With the tough game next week, Losman should get the start. But, fantasy owners should expect rookie Trent Edwards to start again before the end of the season.
QB Carson Palmer, CIN - Despite not finding the end zone in Week 10 against the Ravens, Carson Palmer did have a good game. He was 23 of 34 passing for 271 yards and no interceptions, but no touchdowns either. The Bengals dominated in every way but in putting the ball across the goal line. Palmer benefited from having all three of his best options catching the ball (Chris Henry, Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh) and a decent running game with both Rudi Johnson and Kenny Watson. The Bengals have several good pass matchups over the next few weeks and Palmer is a must start.
QB Vinny Testaverde, CAR - Testaverde wasn't very effective in a home loss against the Falcons. Carolina could not get many sustained drives and the one long drive they had, Testaverde threw an INT in the end zone. Despite the poor game, Testaverde brings a wealth of experience to the QB position for Carolina. He is doing what he can to keep the team afloat, but this week he wasn't able to get the one play to put the Panthers on top. We don't recommend starting Vinny unless you are in dire need of a QB. The bye weeks are now over, so the need for an emergency QB going forward should be minimal. Carolina's next three games are @GB, NO, SF.
Running Back
Upgrade
RB Jesse Chatman, MIA - Jesse Chatman played well against a tough Buffalo Bills defense. Coming off of the bye week, the former Charger had 87 rushing yards in the first half. Chatman rushed 27 times for 124 yards for the game. In addition he grabbed five of Cleo Lemon's 16 completions, resulting in 25 receiving yards. Chatman is the only offensive weapon for the Miami Dolphins.
RB Warrick Dunn, ATL - Dunn had 89 yards rushing with a rushing TD and 51 yards receiving on three receptions in the win over Carolina. We mentioned last week that Dunn historically has good games against division rival Carolina. Hopefully you took advantage and started him. Without Jerious Norwood in the lineup due to ankle injury, Dunn saw all of the carries (26) except one that went to Artose Pinner at the end of the game. He should continue to see the majority of the carries even when Jerious Norwood returns. Atlanta's next three games are TB, IND, @STL.
RB Ryan Grant, GB - Ryan Grant is upgraded for the second week in a row. He looked awesome against a very good Viking rushing defense. This is the same Viking rush defense that shut down LaDainian Tomlinson in week nine. The rookie had 25 rushes for 119 yards and touchdown run. He added five receptions for 20 yards. The Packers traded for Grant in preseason and have to like what they see. The former Notre Dame star is the unquestioned primary ball carrier going forward.
RB Priest Holmes, KC - Holmes got the start in place of the injured Larry Johnson on Sunday and rushed 20 times for 65 yards. His yards-per-carry would have looked better if not for a 13-yard loss on a running play when Holmes reversed direction and tried to make something happen when the original hole was not there on a third-and-two play. The timetable for Larry Johnson's return is still not known, and there is some speculation that he could have a cracked bone in his foot that could keep him out for most or all of the rest of the season. He will likely miss at least one more game.
RB Steven Jackson, STL - Jackson had his best fantasy performance of the season yesterday, rushing 76 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, and adding 24 yards receiving to give him 100 yards from scrimmage on the day. He also threw the first touchdown pass of his career on a halfback option pass to tight end Randy McMichael. Jackson missed four games with a back injury earlier this season, but appeared to be completely healthy yesterday. The Rams' offense is firing on all cylinders, and Jackson could be poised for some big games down the stretch.
RB Maurice Jones-Drew, JAX - With big Albert Haynesworth out of the lineup for Tennessee, the Titans looked very average on defense, especially their run defense. As a result, Maurice Jones-Drew and his 101 rushing yards managed to become the first RB to rush for 100 yards against the Titans this season. Jones-Drew added a TD as well as 28 yards receiving in the win on the road at Tennessee. This performance gives him four strong games in his last six and it doesn't look like it will slow down any time soon. Jacksonville's next three games are SD, BUF, @IND.
RB Clinton Portis, WAS - Portis ran for more than 100 yards for the second week in a row, rushing 30 times for 137 yards while adding four catches for 20 more in Week 10 against Philadelphia. Portis ran hard all game but failed to find the end zone despite many red zone attempts. Portis is the clear feature back for the Redskins and will continue to get the bulk of the work going forward.
RB Chester Taylor, MIN - Chester Taylor gets an upgrade if Adrian Peterson misses time due to the knee injury suffered against the Packers in week ten. Peterson will have a MRI on Monday and more information will be known at that time. The former Raven rushed three times for 37 yards. He added 59 receiving yards on a pair of catches. If the rookie misses time with the injury, Taylor instantly becomes a fantasy starter.
RB Anthony Thomas, BUF -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Anthony Thomas filled in for the injured Marshawn Lynch. If the rookie misses any time, the Thomas would get the first crack at the starting job. The Bills have a tough matchup with the Patriots in week 11, but if Thomas is starting, he'll certainly have increased value.
RB Brian Westbrook, PHI - While it is hard to upgrade Westbrook at this point of the season, considering the status of Adrian Peterson and LaDainian Tomlinson's lack of dominance so far this year, one could certainly argue that Westbrook should be at the top of the value list. Scoring three touchdowns with 183 total yards also adds a lot of weight to those statements, too. Westbrook scored both of his touchdowns via the air, but both scores were more like glorified running plays. The first was a shovel pass between the tackles near the goal line, while the second was much more of a highlight reel material play as he caught a screen pass and ran 50 yards for a 57 yard touchdown, picking up several key blocks. He also crossed the 100 yards rushing line for the first time since Week 3, showing that he can post solid numbers on the ground or as a receiver. Westbrook continues to put up stellar fantasy numbers despite everyone knowing that the ball is heading his way. Look for him to continue his strong season next week against Miami.
RB Dwayne Wright, BUF -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Wright is not an overly appealing option, but he certainly merits an upgrade if Marshawn Lynch misses any time. We expect Anthony Thomas to get the first shot at replacing Lynch, but the former Bill has struggled in the past. If he can't the job done, the Bills won't hesitate to give Wright a shot.
RB Selvin Young, DEN - Selvin Young rushed for a career-high 109 yards on 20 carries yesterday, adding a touchdown in the third quarter. Young got the start when Travis Henry's knee kept Henry out of the game, and Young responded by showing that he can succeed as a starter in the Broncos' offense. Young is averaging 5.3 yards per carry on the season (compared to Henry's 4.5), and Henry's injury and suspension issues, as well as Young's on-field performance, should insure that Young will see significant action down the stretch of the season.
Downgrade
RB Ahman Green, HOU - Ahman Green was able to rest his troublesome knee during the bye week, but it's still unclear if he'll be healthy enough to return to the lineup next week against New Orleans.
RB Chris Henry, TEN - Henry is facing a four game suspension due to a violation of the league's substance abuse policy. Another violation, if it comes next year or the year after, will result in a one-year suspension. That's something to think about in the long run, especially if you own Henry in a dynasty league. Henry appealed the suspension, but generally, the only thing that does is slow the process. If he doesn't sit out starting week 11, he won't have any chance of being active for any fantasy playoff games. Tennessee's next three games are @DEN, @CIN, HOU.
RB Travis Henry, DEN - A knee injury caused Henry to miss Sunday's game against the Chiefs, after he sat out two weeks ago with a rib injury. Henry watched as teammate Selvin Young rushed for over 100 yards. Meanwhile, Henry's appeal of his drug suspension is scheduled to be heard on November 16, and a ruling will likely come down around November 20, according to the Denver Post. So Henry may have only one more week with the team this year, and even aside from the issues with his ribs, knee, and suspension, Selvin Young has proven to be worthy of more playing time with his on-field performance.
RB Larry Johnson, KC - Johnson was starting to get on a roll, with three consecutive good fantasy performances before injuring his foot against the Packers a week ago. Johnson missed yesterday's game against the Broncos, and will very likely miss week's game against the Colts as well. Beyond that, a timetable for his return has not yet been determined, but there is some speculation that he could have a cracked bone in his foot that could keep him out for most or all of the rest of the season.
RB Jamal Lewis, CLE - Jamal Lewis had only 35 yards on 16 carries and fumbled the ball twice. He also failed to cross the goal line on several short attempts. Lewis remains a viable fantasy option because he is a starter and has scored multiple touchdowns, but he should not be too high on your list of choices.
RB Marshawn Lynch, BUF - Marshawn Lynch was limping at the end of the week ten game against the Miami Dolphins. He rushed 19 times for 61 and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 24 yards. The rookie added a strong two-point conversion to tie the game. Lynch suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury. The Bills are hopeful that their star running back will be able to play against the New England Patriots in week eleven.
RB Jerious Norwood, ATL - The plan was to provide more plays for Norwood, but the ankle injury put a hold on any increased playing time. As a result, Warrick Dunn has risen to the occasion and looks to have a strong grasp on the Falcons starting RB duties. Norwood may be back for next week's game against Tampa Bay, but his role will likely continue to be more of a complimentary presence in the running game. Norwood is not worth starting just yet, but his time is coming, especially if he continues to put up strong YPC numbers. Atlanta's next three games are TB, IND, @STL.
RB Adrian Peterson, MIN - Adrian Peterson sprained his knee in the week ten contest against the Packers. There will be a MRI Monday. The rookie had this to say after the game "I was in pain there for a minute there and it slowly went away," Peterson said. "Right now, I'm banking it's a sprained knee." He ended the game with 11 carries for 45 yards and added fourteen more yards on three receptions.
RB LenDale White, TEN - White was the leading rusher for the Titans on Sunday against the Jaguars, however he only totaled 12 yards rushing on the day. White previously had three consecutive 100-yard games, before this poor performance. Tennessee's next three games are @DEN, @CIN, HOU.
Holding steady
RB Cedric Benson, CHI - Cedric Benson was rumored to lose carries to Adrian Peterson after the bye week, but received 31 touches. He ran the ball 29 times for 76 yards and a touchdown. None of the rushes went for more than nine yards. The former Longhorn added another 21 yards on two receptions. Even though fantasy owners should be happy with the fantasy production, Benson's yards per carry average was atrocious against a porous run defense.
RB Reggie Bush, NO - Reggie Bush had a season low 12 touches (7 carries, 5 receptions) for a total of only 44 yards, however he did managed to score on a 7-yard TD run in the first quarter. While this is a sub-par performance from Bush, we fully expect him to have more good games than bad the rest of the way. New Orleans' next three games are @HOU, @CAR, TB.
RB DeShaun Foster, CAR - Holding steady is pretty much Foster's game. He has rushed for at least 50 yards in six of his eight games this season. Every few weeks he has a good game that either includes a TD or a 70+ yard game. One note about Foster - he has at least one reception in every game this season but one. Carolina's next three games are @GB, NO, SF.
RB Edgerrin James, ARI - While James was a top five fantasy RB over the first six weeks of the season, he has not broken double-digit fantasy points (standard scoring) in any game since then. He ran for 60 yards on 18 carries yesterday against the Lions -- not the kind of productive day one would hope for against one of the league's worst run defenses. James' schedule in the next few weeks remains soft, however, as he'll face the Benglas, Forty-Niners, Browns, and Seahawks over the next four weeks. That juicy schedule is a reason to keep James in your starting lineup.
Wide Receiver
Upgrade
WR Bernard Berrian, CHI - Bernard Berrian would stand the most to gain by Rex Grossman re-entering the lineup. In week ten, the former Fresno State star had eight targets resulting in four receptions for 89 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown from Rex Grossman. The former Gator passer looks downfield to his speedy receiver a few times most every game. Berrian owners will want the quarterback change, from Griese to Grossman, to be permanent.
WR Dwayne Bowe, KC - Bowe bounced back from last week's game when he was severely limited by a hamstring injury. Yesterday against the Broncos, Bowe was once again the focus of the Chiefs' passing game, hauling in 9 catches for 105 yards. Bowe made several clutch catches with defenders hanging onto him, and has become a dependable target for the Chiefs' QBs.
WR Reggie Brown, PHI - Reggie Brown continues to be a big part of the Eagles offense since their bye in Week 5. Brown caught a 45 yard strike from Donovan McNabb as he plucked the ball out of the air just before it went past, reaching back for it just inside the Redskin five yard line. Brown snared it and easily stepped into the end zone for the score, his first of the season. With the Eagles facing a questionable defense next week (Miami), look for Brown to continue to put up respectable numbers.
WR Mark Clayton, BAL -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Despite issues with the Ravens' quarterback situation with McNair and Boller, Clayton quietly came out and put up a decent performance. Clayton caught eight passes for 107 yards in Week 10 against Cincinnati, finally breaking out from weak performances all year. If he continues to play well and has Boller throwing to him, he could be a solid option going forward, starting with a nice matchup in Week 11 against Cleveland.
WR Marques Colston, NO - Even though the Saints lost to the previously winless Rams - at home no less, Marques Colston continued to play well catching 8 balls for 129 yards. Colston has 26 receptions in his last three games and he continues to be a top WR threat for the Saints and their potent offense. New Orleans' next three games are @HOU, @CAR, TB.
WR Patrick Crayton, DAL - Crayton bounced back from a terrible performance in Week 9 (no catches, one target, which was intercepted vs. Philadelphia) as he caught five passes against he Giants. Crayton had 66 yards, highlighted by a 20 yard touchdown on a crossing route where he was able to stroll to the goal line and place the ball in the end zone in a showboating move. Crayton continues to start for the Cowboys opposite Terrell Owens, a very nice spot with Tony Romo throwing multiple touchdowns each week. Keep him in your lineup against a banged up Redskins secondary next week.
WR Robert Ferguson, MIN -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Robert Ferguson played well in week ten with Sidney Rice not playing. The former Packer caught all six of his targets for 59 versus his old team. The former Packer was the lone bright spot for the Viking offense. He had the most targets of any Viking. Also, catching six of the sixteen completions of Bollinger, the former Texas A&M Aggie is asserting his spot in the lineup.
WR Justin Gage, TEN -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Justin Gage stepped into the limelight with a 7 reception, 90-yard game including a 20-yard TD catch. The performance was a personal best in yardage and the seven catches tied a career best. We don't expect this to be a common occurrence going forward, but it's good to see the chemistry starting with QB Vince Young. Tennessee's next three games are @DEN, @CIN, HOU.
WR Chris Henry, CIN - Henry was welcomed back to the Bengal passing game, and it appeared like he had never left. Henry caught four passes for 99 yards and was the leading receiver in Week 10. The Bengals have several good pass matchups over the next few weeks, and Henry is a solid wide receiver option. If he happens to still be available, grab him now.
WR Torry Holt, STL - Holt struggled with swelling in his knee for the first part of the season, but looked fast and healthy yesterday as he put up his second consecutive 100-yard receiving game of the season. Holt came through with clutch catches on several third down plays, and seems to have reestablished his rapport with QB Marc Bulger. If the Rams' offense continues to click over the second half of the NFL season, Holt will be a valuable mainstay in his fantasy owners' starting lineups.
WR Dwayne Jarrett, CAR -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - We have a Dwayne Jarrett sighting. Second round pick and highly touted WR Dwayne Jarrett, was active this week and caught two balls for 28 yards. We don't recommend rostering Jarrett just yet, but he is starting to get more involved in the offense. If the Panthers QB position had more stability, this story might be more interesting. Until then, just be aware of his slightly increased presence. Carolina's next three games are @GB, NO, SF.
WR Andre Johnson, HOU - Johnson is finally expected to be returning to the field for week 11's game against the Saints. His return will surely bolster the Texans passing game. Johnson will face the porous Saints pass defense that has allowed a 100-yard WR in six of their nine games this season. If Johnson is cleared to play, he is a must start in all formats. Houston's next three games are NO, @CLE, @TEN.
WR Chad Johnson, CIN - Johnson returned from a frightening injury last week where he was carted off the field. He showed no ill effects from that trauma, catching four passes for 73 yards against the Ravens. The Bengals have several good pass matchups over the next few weeks and Johnson is a solid wide receiver option going forward.
WR Joe Jurevicius, CLE - The Browns just continue to throw and throw, led by Derek Anderson. Despite having limited yardage and production against the Steelers as a team, Jurevicius collected five catches for 44 yards and showed good moves after the catch. If he is available and you need wide receiver depth, go ahead and add him to your roster as Cleveland has several good passing matchups the rest of the season.
WR Eddie Kennison, KC -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Kennison returned to action Sunday, playing in just his third game of the season, but was targeted 8 times. He finished with three catches for 34 yards, and showed some nice hustle. Given the Chiefs' offensive struggles and the emergence of Dwayne Bowe as the team's number one receiver, Kennison has very little value in either redraft or dynasty leagues, but just his getting on the field merits an upgrade over where he was last week.
WR Shaun McDonald, DET - Shaun McDonald had his third straight strong performance in week ten against Arizona. In the game, the former Ram totaled six receptions for 73 yards. With Roy Williams struggling to make the big play, quarterback Jon Kitna is relying on McDonald more and more.
WR Muhsin Muhammad, CHI - Muhsin Muhammad had a much-needed good game for the Bears. Chicago has been waiting for the veteran receiver to assert himself this season. He had four catches; on six pass targets, for 87 yards. Muhammad owners should keep an eye on the quarterback situation. The former Panther has played better with Brian Griese under center this season.
WR Terrell Owens, DAL - Just like the last time that Owens faced the Giants, he lit up their secondary, catching passes and scoring at will. Owens reeled in six passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, getting open deep for his second score (50 yards) as he beat a breakdown in coverage with huge separation from safety Gibril Wilson. Owens should continue to add to his impressive season totals next week against a banged up Redskin secondary.
WR Koren Robinson, GB -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Koren Robinson is back from suspension and playing well. Quarterback Brett Favre is looking to the veteran receiver to make plays. The former Viking had a good game against his former team. Robinson had five receptions for 45 yards. The five is indicative of the confidence Favre has in his veteran receiver. The two had a good rapport last season.
WR Laurent Robinson, ATL -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - The rookie from Illinois State had a career best five receptions on Sunday at Carolina. While he only had 32 yards receiving, he is getting more looks in the offense as the season goes on. Unfortunately he has Roddy White, Michael Jenkins and possibly Joe Horn ahead of him on the depth chart. Robinson did have a fumble that resulted in the Panthers returning it for a TD. Atlanta's next three games are TB, IND, @STL.
WR Javon Walker, DEN - Walker is cautiously optimistic about playing in next week's game against the Titans. He had arthroscopic surgery on his knee on October 19, and was originally expected to miss four weeks. The game against the Titans would come one month after his surgery, and he last week he declared the November 19 game to be a "maybe." If Walker cannot play this week against the Titans, he would most likely return the following week against the Bears.
WR Hines Ward, PIT - Ward once again asserted himself as the top dog receiver for the Steelers, hauling in seven balls for 80 yards and a touchdown in Week 10. Ward was targeted often against the Browns, including several in the end zone, and should continue to post solid numbers the rest of the year as Pittsburgh faces multiple favorable matchups down the stretch.
WR Reggie Wayne, IND - Reggie Wayne continues to be Peyton Manning's go-to WR and with Marvin Harrison out he is really racking up the yards. Wayne has topped 130 yards receiving in three of his last four games. This past week, in a loss to the Chargers, Wayne grabbed 10 receptions for 140 yards including a second quarter 8-yard TD catch. Wayne is a top 5 fantasy WR and should be started in all formats every week. Indianapolis' next three games are KC, @ATL, JAC.
Downgrade
WR Marty Booker, MIA - Marty Booker has disappointed lately, even after the trade of Chris Chambers to the San Diego Chargers. Expectations were high after the Chambers trade. In week ten, Booker had two receptions for 16 yards. On the season, the former Bear has only 28 catches for 321 yards and one touchdown reception.
WR Plaxico Burress, NYG - Plaxico Burress did not have a good week against the Cowboys in Week 10, snagging just four balls form QB Eli Manning. Burress (4-24) failed to find the end zone, a rarity this season, and one has to suspect that his ankle issues may be catching up to him. He faces a much better matchup against Detroit next week, so he should bounce back if he is anywhere close to 100% on game day.
WR Ted Ginn, MIA - When Chris Chambers was dealt to San Diego, we expected Ted Ginn, Jr. to assume a larger role in the offense. However, in the last two games, Ginn has caught only two passes. He's simply not getting it done.
WR Anthony Gonzalez, IND - Gonzalez was inactive this week against the Chargers due to a dislocated left thumb. Gonzalez was the main replacement at WR for the Colts with Marvin Harrison still nursing an injured knee. Gonzalez hasn't done much in place of Harrison and with Harrison's return getting closer, the chances for Gonzalez to find success are becoming fewer and fewer.
WR Marvin Harrison, IND - Marvin Harrison was again inactive for the Colts as he still is not fully recovered from his "knee bruise" that he suffered in week 4 against Denver. While his season may be a disappointment, a healthy Harrison can still produce for your fantasy team. The Harrison owner may be interested in trading him. If he had an injury that required surgery, we would've known about it by now. It looks like rest is the best medicine for Harrison and the Colts were taking all precautions. With two consecutive losses, the Colts may be changing their approach with Harrison's injury. In other words, it might be time to get him back on the field. We'll keep up with his status as the week progresses. Indianapolis' next three games are KC, @ATL, JAC.
WR James Jones, GB - James Jones is losing time to Koren Robinson, and even Ruvell Martin, as the Packers third or even fourth receiver. The rookie caught three of his five targets for 62 yards. Four other Packer wide receivers had more receptions. Jones was hot earlier in the season when Greg Jennings was battling injuries. With the way Brett Favre is spreading the ball around, James Jones is not the fantasy option he was earlier in the season.
WR Samie Parker, KC - With Eddie Kennison's return and Jeff Webb's progress, Parker is the Chiefs' fourth option at the WR position (not counting Tony Gonzalez) and has no fantasy value.
WR Roscoe Parrish, BUF - Roscoe Parrish was held without a catch in week ten against the Miami Dolphins. Parrish was thought to possibly be the starting receiver this week now that he is healthy. Even with Losman under center, Parrish is not a fantasy option going forward.
WR Steve Smith, CAR - Smith continues to be a fantasy disappointment considering his high preseason ranking. The wheels have fallen off the Panthers offense since the loss of Jake Delhomme. David Carr isn't the answer, Vinny Testaverde, while better, still isn't the providing the same offensive pop that Smith is used to with Delhomme under center. While Smith may still have a few good games in him this season, he can't be counted on for consistently high numbers every week. We don't necessarily condone benching Smith, but if you have better options, don't hesitate to make the roster change. Carolina's next three games are @GB, NO, SF.
WR Brandon Stokley, DEN - Stokley was targeted 8 times yesterday as he got the start in place of the injured Javon Walker, but he will return to the slot when Walker is available to play, which could be as early as next week.
WR Demetrius Williams, BAL - Things just aren't going right for the Ravens offense in general and Demetrius Williams in particular. Against the poor Bengals pass defense, Williams caught only one pass for five yards. Yes, he almost hauled in a TD, but almost catching two balls doesn't cut it.
WR Troy Williamson, MIN - Troy Williamson is out of favor with the Vikings after missing the game last week. Even though the former Gamecock played in week ten, he was held without a catch. This was even with Brooks Bollinger completing 16 passes. Williamson is being phased out of the offense with rookie Sidney Rice and Robert Ferguson seeing more action as the season progresses. Expect Troy Williamson to be playing elsewhere in 2008.
Holding steady
WR Braylon Edwards, CLE - Edwards only had one catch, but it was highlight reel worthy. He stuck a 16 yard catch in the end zone, holding both his toes just inside the sideline as he caught the ball falling out of bounds. Edwards was closely marked all day but the Steelers are a tough matchup. Baltimore should provide better options as Edwards has historically always done well against the Ravens.
WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, CIN - The unbelievable streak of Houshmandzadeh scoring in every game this season came to an end, but he still remains a solid option. Houshmandzadeh had six catches but just 45 yards against the Ravens. He remains a must start.
WR Ruvell Martin, GB - Ruvell Martin had a career game. He caught four of his five pass targets for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The second scoring grab was a lucky bounce off two Viking defenders on a poorly thrown ball. The second-year pro from Saginaw Valley State had more touchdowns in this week's game than he has in his young career as a whole. This is a fluke game that no one saw coming. With the way Brett Favre is spreading the ball around, Martin might have another good game or two the rest of the way, but it will be tough to predict.
WR David Patten, NO - Patten finished with 37 yards on three receptions in the home loss to the Rams. Patten has been inconsistent week to week, but he continues to be the Saints WR2, which is a productive position as long as the Saints continue to put up strong offensive numbers. Patten is a good WR4 for your fantasy squad, but don't count on him producing high numbers every week. New Orleans' next three games are @HOU, @CAR, TB.
WR Roddy White, ATL - White had 6 receptions for 57 yards in a win at Carolina. He continues to be the Falcons go-to WR and you should continue to start him as a WR3 or WR4 if that's been the case. White's numbers should improve with the return of Byron Leftwich next week. Atlanta's next three games are TB, IND, @STL.
WR Roy Williams, DET - Roy Williams scored twice, much to the delight of his fantasy owners. He still is not showing the explosion or fantasy potential fantasy owners are accustomed. The former Longhorn had six catches for 45 yards and the two scores. The touchdowns help, but less than fifty receiving yards is not a good thing for a receiver who has been in a slump.
Tight End
Upgrade
TE Alge Crumpler, ATL - Alge Crumpler returned to the lineup after injuring his ankle and knee. He had only two receptions for 39 yards against Carolina and the majority of it came on a game-winning 30-yard TD reception. Crumpler should see more action with the return of Byron Leftwich. If you have been waiting for Crumpler to do something before getting him back in your lineup, that time has come. He should be a fairly productive TE play going forward, but don't expect the same as previous years. Crumpler isn't a top 5 TE anymore, but he can still be productive. Atlanta's next three games are TB, IND, @STL.
TE Bryan Fletcher, IND -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Filling in for the injured Dallas Clark, Fletcher proceeded to catch 8 balls for 55 yards in the loss at San Diego. He had seven receptions in the first half. Not only was Peyton Manning looking to fill Dallas Clark's role in the offense, but he also was looking to fill Marvin Harrison's role as well. We don't necessarily see Fletcher having that kind of impact in future games, but he did seem to click with Peyton Manning. If Dallas Clark has to sit another week due to his concussion he suffered in week 9, Bryan Fletcher would be an adequate replacement. Indianapolis' next three games are KC, @ATL, JAC.
TE Eric Johnson, NO - Johnson scored his 2nd TD of the season on Sunday against the Rams. He finished with three receptions for 38 yards and the one TD. Johnson's production has been inconsistent this season, but his good games keep him in or near the TE top 15. He is considered a marginal fantasy start in most leagues at this time and is really only worth starting when the right matchup presents itself. New Orleans' next three games are @HOU, @CAR, TB.
TE Donald Lee, GB - Donald Lee seems to get four receptions each and every week. In week ten against the Minnesota Vikings, Lee caught four of his five pass targets for 27 yards and a scoring grab. Even though Brett Favre had five wideouts with at least three receptions, Lee still gets his four receptions. Donald Lee has emerged as a good starting fantasy tight end for many fantasy owners.
TE David Martin, MIA - David Martin had four receptions for 34 yards in the loss to the Buffalo Bills. Surprisingly, no wide receiver had more than two receptions or even thirty yards. The oft-injured tight end is one receiver Cleo Lemon can rely on. The Dolphins are a team void of legitimate NFL starters, so the former Packer should continue to see good opportunities.
TE Randy McMichael, STL -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Marc Bulger's return to prominence will only help McMichael become a nice option among fantasy TEs. If the Rams are throwing for 300 yards consistently, McMichael will have more games like he did in week 10 when he caught four balls for 41 yards and a TD.
TE Heath Miller, PIT - Miller continues his hot streak, catching five passes for 71 yards and another touchdown. Miller has six touchdowns already on the season and is a solid and consistent target for Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers love to feature him as a receiver, moving him out to the slot in several formations. Miller should have good performances down the stretch against some weaker pass defenses.
TE Zach Miller, OAK - Miller was targeted six times yesterday, and over the last four games has been targeted about as frequently as starting WRs Ronald Curry and Jerry Porter (Curry, Porter, and Miller have 24, 23, and 21 targets over that period, respectively). While Miller still has only one TD on the season, he is getting enough looks to make him a viable option as a fantasy fill-in due to bye week or injury issues.
TE Leonard Pope, ARI -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Pope had his best fantasy performance of his career yesterday, converting all five of his targets into receptions, including two for touchdowns. It has been hit or miss with Pope this year, as he has been held to under ten yards receiving (and no touchdowns) in five games this season, but if he can establish himself as a popular red-zone target, he could have some fantasy value down the stretch.
TE Jeremy Shockey, NYG - Shockey had a career high with 12 catches against the Cowboys, racking up 129 yards and a touchdown. He broke 100 yards for the first time since 2005 and looks strong, healthy and ready for the playoff push. Expect Shockey to post good numbers again in Week 11 against a weak Detroit Lions pass defense.
TE L.J. Smith, PHI - Smith caught four passes in Week 10 against the Redskins including his first touchdown of the season. Smith looked 100% healthy, a welcome sight for Donovan McNabb who loves to feature the TE in their version of the West Coast Offense. Smith should continue to contribute to the Eagles' offense in Week 11 against the Miami Dolphins.
TE Kellen Winslow Jr, CLE - Winslow produced early in Week 10, catching several passes on the opening drive for the Browns, culminating with an easy touchdown reception. Winslow finished with five catches and 46 yards along with the touchdown. Expect a good performance against the Ravens in Week 11.
Downgrade
TE Dallas Clark, IND - Clark was inactive in the game at San Diego due to a concussion he suffered in week nine. Whether or not he will be back next week against Kansas City is yet to be determined. Bryan Fletcher had 8 receptions for 55 yards in his absence. Clark is still considered a top 5 TE going forward. Indianapolis' next three games are KC, @ATL, JAC.
TE Tony Gonzalez, KC - Gonzalez merits a downgrade due to the impending ascension of Brodie Croyle. While Damon Huard is certainly not an All Pro QB, Croyle lacks the experience to fully utilize Gonzalez. This will hurt the veteran TE.
TE Greg Olsen, CHI - Greg Olsen was held without a catch in week ten. With the possible quarterback change to Rex Grossman, this is not good news for the rookie. Brian Griese had been locked on to the former Hurricane star. Desmond Clark is the starting tight end due to his experience and strong blocking.
Holding steady
TE Chris Cooley, WAS - Cooley had a quiet game in Week 10, catching five passes but accumulating only 33 yards. He was also held out of the end zone for the second consecutive week. With Dallas on the schedule next and Jeremy Shockey's success in Week 10, Cooley could be poised for a much better game in Week 11. Hold on and wait for that performance.
TE Antonio Gates, SD - Gates had his second poor fantasy outing in a row, but he is still the number one fantasy tight end on the season, and should have plenty of good games down the stretch whether or not the rest of the Charger offense can pull itself out of its funk. Gates is too talented, and too big a part of the offense, to abruptly cease all fantasy production.
TE Todd Heap, BAL - Heap returned to the Ravens' lineup from a hamstring issue to catch four passes for 38 yards against the Bengals. Unfortunately for all interested parties, Heap was sidelined - again - due to the same injury. Unless he practices this week he should return to fantasy team benches. Check the waiver wire and practice reports and if he's healthy, upgrade him once again, especially if Kyle Boller is the starting quarterback.
TE Jason Witten, DAL - Witten had a slow week, catching just two balls for 12 yards and no touchdowns in Week 10 against New York. Witten had scored and performed well in Week 1 against the Giants, so it seemed that their defensive game plan was to cover Witten well and make Tony Romo beat them with other receivers. Expect for Witten to get back in gear next week against the Redskins, a team who gave up a touchdown to TE LJ Smith this week.
Kicker
Upgrade
PK Mason Crosby, GB -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - Mason Crosby had another good game. With the way Brett Favre and the Packer offense is playing, Crosby is a good fantasy play down the stretch. In week ten, he was two for two on field goal opportunities and four for four on extra points. Crosby will get good opportunities to score with the effectiveness of the Packer offense, and Brett Favre in particular.
PK Shayne Graham, CIN - Graham set a club record with seven field goals in Week 10 as the Bengals moved the ball consistently on Baltimore but struggled in the Red Zone. Graham hit all seven attempts against the Ravens, all from 35 yards or less.
PK Rian Lindell, BUF - Don't look now, but the Bills and Rian Lindell are playing well lately. Since their heart breaking loss to Dallas, Buffalo has won four straight games, and Lindell is kicking for lots of points. He has booted seven FGs over the last three weeks.
PK Jeff Reed, PIT - Reed made all of his kicks in Week 10, scoring 11 points on three field goals and two extra points. Reed hit all three of his shorter field goals (28, 30 and 35 yards) and with the Steelers continuing to click on offense Reed should be putting up multiple scores week after week.
Downgrade
PK Jay Feely, MIA - Jay Feely made his only field goal opportunity and converted an extra point. However, with the ineptitude of the Dolphin offense, it has been over a month since Jay Feely made more than one field goal in a game. With the lack of offensive playmakers on offense, fantasy owners cannot start Jay Feely unless there are no other viable options.
PK Robbie Gould, CHI - Gould has really struggled since his four FG day against the Eagles. In the two games since, Gould has made only one out of three FGs and booted only three PATs. Those are very poor numbers.
PK Ryan Longwell, MIN - Ryan Longwell was held without a scoring opportunity in week ten. With the way the Vikings quarterbacks are playing, in addition to the injury to Adrian Peterson, Longwell may struggle to score some games. The quarterback inconsistencies for the Vikings have impacted the scoring opportunities for Longwell and no one knows who will start as the Vikings passer in week eleven.
PK Matt Stover, BAL - Stover is still a good kicker, but the Ravens are giving him no chance at being productive. Over the last three games, he hasn't kicked a FG and has only four total PATs. That will not help any fantasy team.
Holding steady
PK Jason Hanson, DET - Granted, he only booted three PATs in week ten, but Hanson has been very productive lately. The Lions have provided him with a good number of scoring chances, and he has kicked six FGs and nine PATs over the last three games.
Team Defense
Upgrade
TD Cincinnati Bengals, CIN - While Baltimore can make any defense look good these days, the Bengals did do some solid work in Week 10. The Bengals held Baltimore to seven points and 272 total yards while collecting 3 sacks and grabbing two interceptions. Cincinnati faces Arizona and Tennessee next, so both matchups could be favorable enough to consider the Bengals as a fantasy defensive option.
TD Buffalo Bills, BUF -
*** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** - The Bills defense doesn't accumulate many sacks and doesn't force many turnovers, but they are playing well as a unit. They have allowed only 34 points in their last three games, so they merit an upgrade in scoring systems that award for points allowed.
TD Arizona Cardinals, ARI - The Cardinals generated five turnovers against the Lions yesterday, while holding Detroit to negative eighteen yards rushing on the day. We wrote that out -- negative eighteen yards rushing -- so it wouldn't look like a typo, but it still does. The Cardinals also sacked Jon Kitna four times.
TD San Diego Chargers, SD - Depending on your league's scoring system, the Chargers' defense continues to generate fantasy points with turnovers and return TDs. They picked the Colts off six times yesterday, and Darren Sproles had both a kickoff return TD and a punt return TD. That follows two turnovers with a field goal return TD last week by Antonio Cromartie, and five turnovers with an interception return for a TD and fumble recovery for a TD by Antonio Cromartie the preceding week. In leagues that emphasize yardage allowed, the Chargers' fantasy defense is nothing special. In leagues that emphasize turnovers and return TDs (including by special teams), the Chargers' fantasy defense has enough playmakers to keep generating points.
TD Jacksonville Jaguars, JAX - The Jaguars had four sacks against the Titans on Sunday and the held them to less than 70 yards rushing. That's a pretty dominating effort. Jacksonville's next three games are SD, BUF, @IND.
TD Green Bay Packers, GB - The Packer defense has played well for the last few weeks. In the week ten game against the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay defense gets a shutout to go with one interception and three sacks. The Packers played Adrian Peterson about as well as any defense can. In addition it is getting into the time of year where the weather will come into play.
TD Carolina Panthers, CAR - Carolina's defense is starting to put up some nice fantasy numbers. This unit had two sacks and a fumble recovery that went for a TD. They are not recommended as a good start next week at Green Bay, but if given the right match up, they can be a fairly productive start. Carolina's next three games are @GB, NO, SF.
Downgrade
TD Cleveland Browns, CLE - This group is simply getting shelled. Over their last three games, Cleveland has allowed 1217 yards and 81 points. This is the defense you hope your players are facing each week. They are certainly not the one you want to start on your squad.
TD Washington Redskins, WAS - The Redskins gave up 33 points and lots of yardage to Brian Westbrook in Week 10. They had very little pass rush at Donovan McNabb, getting just two sacks and no interceptions (but did recover two fumbles). Coming into the Eagles' game, Washington was already thin in the secondary and now Sean Taylor was unable to finish the game on Sunday. With Dallas next on the schedule, none of this news can be reassuring. Expect a rough outing in Week 11.
TD Minnesota Vikings, MIN - The Minnesota Defense gave up 34 points with no interceptions, no fumbles and no sacks. The strength of the defense is against the run, but still gave up 120 rushing yards, mostly to unproven rookie Ryan Grant. The Vikings were the top fantasy defense earlier in the season, but not any more. Now, they are nothing more than a spot start against good matchups.
Holding steady
TD Tennessee Titans, TEN - The loss of Albert Haynesworth this week sure made a difference. Tennessee allowed their first 100-yard rusher in Maurice Jones-Drew. They also only had one sack and one fumble recovery. However, over their last three outings, they have allowed only 688 total yards while accumulating 13 sacks. Tennessee's next three games are @DEN, @CIN, HOU.
