Week 7 Early Injury Report

by Mark Wimer, Exclusive to Footballguys.com

Quarterback

QB Marc Bulger - STL - Bulger was active, but did not play, on Sunday due to his broken ribs.

QB David Carr - CAR - Carr was active, but did not play on Sunday. "It was pretty close. I mean, if Vinny hurt his hand, I would have tried to do whatever I could to get out there. We tried in pregame and it wasn't working." Carr said that taking the snap was the most difficult thing to do with his sore back - "That's the hardest thing," he said. "I just get kind of locked up from that position."

QB Brett Favre - GB - Favre tweaked an ankle during the game on Sunday, but is expected to be fine as of Monday afternoon.

QB Gus Frerotte - STL - While no specific injury was cited after the game, Frerotte was teed off on several times on Sunday by the Ravens' defense - to the point the coaching staff thought about pulling him and inserting Marc Bulger. "I contemplated it," coach Scott Linehan said after the game. "But I also think it was in our best interests (not to play Bulger). The reason we held him out is we're trying to get him healthy."

QB Trent Green - MIA - Green's concussion kept him sidelined on Sunday as expected (listed as out on Friday's injury report). On Monday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that Green is contemplating retirement, pending the outcome of further medical evaluations.

QB Josh McCown - OAK - McCown continues to miss games thanks to his injured toe (listed as out on Friday).

QB Steve McNair - BAL - McNair was active but did not play due to his sore back - Kyle Boller led the team to victory over the injury-ravaged Rams. Coach Billick indicated after the game that it is "unlikely" that McNair will play vs. Buffalo this week. "We've got to get Steve fully healthy," Billick said on Monday. "It's in our best interest to come back after the bye with Steve fully healthy. I don't know that we're going to do that with just one week's time."

QB Tony Romo - DAL - Romo suffered a shoulder strain on his left (non throwing) shoulder early in the game, but it did not force him out of the action. He was heavily taped up after the game, and will be evaluated further as the week goes along.

QB Kurt Warner - ARI - Warner tore ligaments in his left (non-throwing) elbow early in the game on Sunday - he'll be out for the foreseeable future. "We'll see the extent of it and see what we can do as far as getting me back as soon as possible," he said after the game. With Matt Leinart already on IR with a broken collarbone, the Cardinals are now going with Tim Rattay as their starter, probably for the rest of the season. Tim Hasselbeck has been mentioned as a likely candidate to be signed for #2 QB at this point.

QB Vince Young - TEN - Young suffered what has been variously described as a hamstring or quadriceps injury during the game on Sunday - he was unable to complete the game. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along to determine the exact nature and severity of this leg injury. Coach Fisher commented after the game "At this point he will just be day-to-day. It was not something that he could have played and played effectively with."

Running Back

RB Chris Brown - TEN - Brown sprained his left ankle in the second quarter on Sunday. He did not return. "Somebody just rolled up on it," Brown said after the game. "We'll see how bad it is." He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

RB Steven Jackson - STL - Jackson missed another game on Sunday as expected (groin injury, listed as out on Friday).

RB Sammy Morris - NE - Morris left the game on Sunday due to a chest injury of unspecified severity (some reports say an arm injury). RB Fred Taylor - JAX - Taylor missed part of the game on Sunday due to problems with his groin muscle, but the problem isn't considered serious: "I'm good," Taylor said afterwards. "Coming out at halftime, my legs just locked up in the adductor area [of the groin], both sides. For the whole third quarter, they were locked up. When I finally got them to loosen up for me, it was a given that we were gonna win the game. So it didn't make any sense to get back in there."

RB Brian Westbrook - PHI - Westbrook played on Sunday despite not being 100%. He stated after the game "I felt as though I was good enough to play. I did OK. I had a couple spots where there was some pain (from his strained abdomen), but for the most part everything worked out."
