Week 19 Early Injury Report

by Mark Wimer, Exclusive to Footballguys.com

Quarterback

Running Back

RB Lorenzo Neal - SD - As expected, Neal missed the first playoff game due to his broken fibula, after being listed as doubtful to play on Friday's injury report. After the game, Neal appeared optimistic that he'll be ready to get back in the saddle vs. the Colts. "I want to play, but I don't want to jeopardize the team," Neal said. "If I'm ready to play I'll play, but if not I think (Andrew) Pinnock's been doing a great job filling in...I'm not going to be selfish. It's not about me; it's about this team. Andrew's playing well, and we're going to see what happens."

RB LaBrandon Toefield - JAX - Toefield was inactive for the wild card round of the playoffs due to his injured ankle, as expected. He was listed as out on Friday's injury report.

Wide Receiver

WR Deion Branch - SEA - Branch was inactive for the wild card round of the playoffs due to his injured calf, after being listed as questionable to play on Friday's injury report. He reportedly lobbied the coaching staff hard saying he was ready to play but the team took the safe route and held him out. Branch says he'll play this weekend.

WR Sinorice Moss - NYG - Moss was inactive for the wild card playoff game after being listed as probable to play on Friday (sore back).

WR Terrell Owens - DAL - Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones commented on Terrell Owens' status for the playoffs on a Friday radio show on KTCK saying the following: "I like where he is. Our trainers are really satisfied with the progress he is making. He's got his (protective walking) boot off. And there is no detectable swelling or relatively little. When you compare that and the nature of his injury with the rehab of other players in similar situations, then we ought to be optimistic."

He'll be working with the trainers doing all he can to be ready. He obviously has a history of returning for games and playing injured as he did in the Super Bowl with Philadelphia. Still though, there is a lot of uncertainty right now.

"I don't know, and I don't even know if doctors and trainers know," Jerry Jones said. "I don't know if anybody knows."

Tight End

TE Antonio Gates - SD - Gates sprained his left big toe during the game on Sunday, and did not return to action. Some are calling it a "severe sprain". After the game, Gates said of the injury and his availability for the playoff game vs. Indianapolis "I won't know until later in the week."

Gates was hit by linebacker David Thornton and tackle Tony Brown. His foot was caught behind him and the toe got caught in the turf when he was tackled.

"I really wasn't impressed with the shot he took at me," Gates said of Brown. "I thought the corner was trying to tag me off. I was just in an awkward position trying to get up."

Kicker

Offensive Line

OL New York Giants - NYG - C Shaun O'Hara was inactive on Sunday as expected, after being listed as doubtful to play on Friday (injured knee). LT David Diehl was forced from the game on Sunday due to cramps (the problem isn't considered serious as of Monday).

Defensive Line

DL Jay Alford - NYG - Alford suffered a sprained knee during the game on Sunday - he'll be evaluated further to determine the exact nature and severity of the injury as the week goes along.

DL John Henderson - JAX - Henderson left early in the game vs. Pittsburgh due to a strained hamstring, and did not return to action. Coach Jack Del Rio indicated on Sunday that the injury was "not that serious", but also indicated the Henderson will be evaluated further as the week goes along.

Asked about team injuries, Del Rio said Henderson is "really the only concern going forward" while adding that he didn't "think he did anything real bad, but we'll just see how it responds."

DL Patrick Kerney - SEA - Kerney had a sore neck after the game vs. Washington - but the injury is not considered serious and he'll be ready for the game vs. Green Bay.

Linebacker

LB Marques Harris - SD - Harris was inactive for the wild card round of the playoffs due to his injured hand, after being listed as questionable to play on Friday's injury report.

LB Mike Peterson - JAX - Peterson was inactive for the wild card round of the playoffs due to his broken right hand, after being listed as out on Friday. Peterson was characterized by head coach Jack Del Rio on Sunday as chomping at the bit to get back in the game, but added "Until we get that [medical clearance], it's not even something we can discuss."

Defensive Back

DB Aaron Glenn - JAX - Glenn was inactive for the wild card round of the playoffs due to his injured ankle, despite being listed as probable to play on Friday's injury report.

DB Sam Madison - NYG - Madison was inactive on Sunday due to his stomach problems, after being listed as doubtful to play on Friday.
