Week 10 Game Recap: Cincinnati Bengals 21, Baltimore Ravens 7
What you need to know
Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals once potent offense turned into a field goal machine on Sunday, posting seven field goals on their way to a 21-7 win over the division rival Baltimore Ravens.
Even with no touchdowns, Carson Palmer played well, reestablishing his rapport with Chris Henry.
PK Shayne Graham was the story though, converting all seven field goal attempts. The oft maligned Bengals defense had an easy task, but lived up to it, holding the anemic Baltimore Ravens offense to just seven points.
Baltimore Ravens
That flashing light you see in the corner of your screen should be the career in danger light for two different NFL mainstays, Steve McNair and Brian Billick. McNair was 17 of 26 for a paltry 128 and had three turnovers, one interception and two fumbles. He was later replaced by Kyle Boller who led the team to their only score.
Billick could not conjure much for the Ravens, and hasn't in several seasons. The only bright light for the Ravens could be Mark Clayton who had eight receptions for 107 yards, and Willis McGahee who totaled 70 yards and a score.
What you ought to know
QB Carson Palmer, Pass: 23 - 34 - 271 - 0 TD / 0 INT, Rush: 2 - -2 - 0
Palmer enjoyed the return of WR Chris Henry and threw for 271 yards. He had no interceptions, but no touchdowns either. He did lose two fumbles. All in all it was an efficient game for Palmer on his way to the team's third win.
RB Rudi Johnson, Rush: 22 - 46 - 0, Rec: 1 - 2 - 0 (3 targets)
Johnson, an injury list mainstay this season, tallied 48 all purpose yards on 22 carries and two receptions. After only four touches in the first half, Johnson saw the majority of his work in the second half.
RB Kenny Watson, Rush: 9 - 24 - 0, Rec: 3 - 25 - 0 (4 targets)
Despite the return of Rudi Johnson from the injury list, Kenny Watson remained a key cog in the Bengals offense, although he struggled to be productive against the Baltimore Ravens defense. Watson totaled 49 yards on nine carries and three receptions.
RB Jeremi Johnson, Rush: 1 - 2 - 0, Rec: 1 - 14 - 0 (1 targets)
Primarily a blocker, Jeremi Johnson tallied 16 yards on one carry and one reception.
WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Rec: 6 - 45 - 0 (7 targets)
Strangely, Carson Palmer did not look T.J. Houshmanzadeh's way in the first quarter, or the fourth for that matter, although the game was in had at that point. Houshmandzadeh was most active in the second and third quarters, pulling in six receptions for 45 yards.
WR Chad Johnson, Rec: 4 - 73 - 0 (9 targets)
Managing to shake off last week's scary neck/shoulder injury, Chad Johnson was active early with eight targets in the first half, and posted 73 yards on four receptions for the game. Not quite his explosive self this season, Johnson has maintained his place as Carson Palmer's top target.
WR Chris Henry, Rec: 4 - 99 - 0 (7 targets)
In his first game of the season, Chris Henry did not miss a beat, just missing out on a 100 yard outing on four catches for 99 yards. As the third receiver in most of the Cincinnati Bengals sets, Henry was the most productive on the day.
WR Antonio Chatman, Rec: 2 - 8 - 0 (2 targets)
One set play and one short reception were the only targets for Antonio Chatman, mainly a special teams player. Chatman got eight yards on his two touches.
WR Glenn Holt, Rec: 1 - -1 - 0 (1 targets)
The return specialist for the Cincinnati Bengals managed one catch in addition to his usual return duties, although it went for a negative one yard.
TE Dan Coats, Rec: 1 - 6 - 0 (1 targets)
Not a key component of the Cincinnati Bengals offense, Coats had one reception for eight yards.
TE Reggie Kelly (1 targets)
Kelly was not a key component of the Cincinnati Bengals offense posting no receptions on the day.
PK Shayne Graham 7 - 7 FG, 0 - 0 XP, 21 points
Graham delivered a huge day. Seven big field goals for 21 points was the total of the scoring for the Bengals.
CIN Rush Defense
With a slowly building score in their favor, the Cincinnati Bengals defense managed to hold the Baltimore Ravens to just 66 yards on 18 carries, forcing one fumble, and able to focus on the pass rush for most of the second half.
CIN Pass Defense
Granted they were facing Steve McNair and Kyle Boller, but the Cincinnati Bengals pass defense posted a strong game, giving up no passing touchdowns and tallying two interceptions along with one sack.
QB Steve McNair, Pass: 17 - 26 - 128 - 0 TD / 1 INT, Rush: 1 - 6 - 0
McNair committed three turnovers, one interception and two fumbles to hamstring the Baltimore Ravens offense and was replaced in the fourth quarter by Kyle Boller. McNair posted 128 yards on 17 for 26 passing and six rushing yards on his way to what may have been his last performance in the NFL as a starter.
QB Kyle Boller, Pass: 6 - 8 - 89 - 0 TD / 1 INT
Boller replaced Steve McNair in the fourth quarter and led the Baltimore Ravens to their only score of the game. Boller was eight of nine for 89 yards. Boller may end up starting the rest of the season at this point; monitor the site for the latest news on that front.
RB Willis McGahee, Rush: 17 - 60 - 1, Rec: 2 - 10 - 0 (2 targets)
McGahee had a decent outing, tallying 70 total yards and a touchdown, the only one for the Baltimore Ravens on the day. The Ravens leaned heavy on McGahee in the first half, but needed to play catch up with the pass in the second half.
RB LeRon McClain, Rec: 1 - 4 - 0 (1 targets)
The run blocker pulled in one catch for four yards, but no carries on the day.
RB Musa Smith, Rec: 1 - 1 - 0 (1 targets)
A non-factor in the Baltimore Ravens come from behind game plan, Musa Smith had one catch for one yard and no carries in the game.
WR Mark Clayton, Rec: 8 - 107 - 0 (11 targets)
Clayton had one of his occasional high target, high reception games that owners hope for but receive on too rare of occasion. Clayton posted eight catches for 107 yards as the most effective receiver on the day for the Baltimore Ravens.
WR Derrick Mason, Rec: 4 - 29 - 0 (6 targets)
The leading receiver on the season for the Baltimore Ravens was held in check by the Cincinnati Bengals defense. Mason posted four catches for 29 yards as the Ravens offense continues to struggle under Brian Billick.
WR Devard Darling, Rec: 1 - 16 - 0 (3 targets)
Getting some rare playing time, Devard Darling was targeted three times and tallied one catch for 16 yards.
WR Demetrius Williams, Rec: 1 - 5 - 0 (2 targets)
A victim of the anemic Baltimore Ravens offense, Demetrius Williams had just one catch for five yards on the day.
TE Todd Heap, Rec: 4 - 38 - 0 (7 targets)
Heap pulled in four receptions for 38 yards, respectable considering the floundering of the Baltimore Ravens offense. Heap seemed to be relatively healthy, seemingly always a concern for Heap owners in recent years.
TE Quinn Sypniewski, Rec: 1 - 7 - 0 (2 targets)
Sypniewski posted just one catch on two targets for seven yards.
PK Matt Stover 0 - 0 FG, 1 - 1 XP, 1 points
Stover converted on his only point attempt on the day.
BAL Rush Defense
The Baltimore Ravens rush defense kept the Cincinnati Bengal rushers bottled up for the most part, giving up just 70 yards on 34 carries.
BAL Pass Defense
The Baltimore Ravens pass defense kept the high octane Cincinnati offense out of the end zone on the day and managed two sacks, forcing Carson Palmer to fumble twice. Despite not giving up any touchdowns the defense relinquished 21 points due to the Bengals constantly having a short field due to the poor play of the Ravens offense.
