The Latest News

Quarterback

*** Saturday Update *** QB Trent Green (MIA) has been placed on the injured reserve list and will miss the remainder of the season.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Cleo Lemon (MIA) Lemon's mobility has allowed the Dolphins to open up the playbook a bit more. However, HC Cam Cameron said the next step in the quarterback's development is to improve his pocket presence. "As you grow you've got to trust your protection and not be so quick to flush out of there. Although there is a time and place for that ... it's a trap if you start to rely on that too much," Cameron said. "We've all seen guys start running around out there, and that's not a real good combination at all."

*** Saturday Update *** QB Anthony Wright (NYG) has leapfrogged Jared Lorenzen on the depth chart and will now be QB Eli Manning's backup.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Alex Smith (SF) will be third on the depth chart this Sunday. "It's a matter of reps more than anything," HC Mike Nolan said of the decision to make Smith No. 3. Smith is recovering from a shoulder injury and might be ready to start next week. Trent Dilfer will start and be backed up by QB Shaun Hill.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Vince Young (TEN) will be a game time decision. We'll have the official word about noon ET so check the Sunday Update page for Young's status.

Running Back

*** Saturday Update *** RB Travis Henry (DEN) An NFL spokesman said the league has set a November 5th hearing for Travis Henry to have his appeal for a third positive test for marijuana. "I know nothing," Henry said. "I really don't know any dates for anything."

*** Saturday Update *** RB Kevin Jones (DET) said that he won't be 100 percent this season, but feels healthy enough to carry 20-25 times if asked. "I don't have any big thoughts on it," said Jones. "I just want to go out there and carry the load and play." The Lions have limited his reps, but HC Rod Marinelli said this week that Jones would start in place of RB Tatum Bell.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Priest Holmes (KC) was activated and removed from the reserve, non-football injury list. He likely will see a few carries Sunday as he backs up Larry Johnson.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Laurence Maroney (NE) will be a game time decision. Fortunately, New England plays in the early game so we'll have official word on his status about noon ET Sunday. Check the Sunday Update page.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Sammy Morris (NE) has been downgraded to OUT and will miss Sunday's game according to the Boston Globe.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Shaun Alexander (SEA) said on Thursday that he plans on being more patient and not hitting the hole as hard as he has been. "I think that when the (offensive) line changed, I kind of listened to what everybody else was saying," Alexander said. "I couldn't do it and I haven't allowed my team to go do their thing. I think that part of me is just going to go back and be me instead of trying to hit every hole. I think that's one of the things I've been working on this whole week, going back to what I used to do and stop trying to make every play perfect." Alexander's words come as something of a surprise because one major criticism about him is that he does not hit the hole hard at all, dancing indecisively around the backfield.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Chris Brown (TEN) did not practice this week because of an injured ankle and he's not expected to play on Sunday. That likely leaves rookie Chris Henry as LenDale White's backup at tailback, although it's also looking more like the Titans will elevate RB Quinton Ganther from the practice squad for the game.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Chris Henry (TEN) is expected to be the backup to LenDale White this weekend due to Chris Brown's injury. HC Jeff Fisher said Henry, who was inactive for the first five games, had a good week of practice. "He understands what he's doing," Fisher said. "He's playing well without the ball, he understands protections and he's catching the ball. He's worked hard and he's fresh."

Wide Receiver

*** Saturday Update *** WR Marvin Harrison (IND) practiced Saturday according to Colts.com. This was important as before practice coach Tony Dungy said Saturday's practice would be "a good indicator" of whether Harrison would be able to play. "We'll see how much he can do," Dungy said.

However, the team did not change Harrison's status on their Saturday injury report where they still list him as questionable. The talk has been fairly positive but the fact they didn't upgrade him is a little worrisome. He will likely be a game time decision and with the game on Monday night, that's too late for most owners. Our gut feel is that he'll play, but it's a definite gamble to say right now he'll play.

*** Saturday Update *** WR Chad Jackson (NE) is back practicing with the team and his ACL injury has not impacted his blazing speed. HC Bill Belichick has been impressed with his improvement from last year to this year. "He works hard," Belichick said. "He knows a lot more this year than he knew last year going into the season or even at this point. Yeah, I think Chad's... He's done what he can do. He's been limited in some things, but I don't think that's held him back on the other things. He works hard on his preparation and assignments, he's matured a lot and he's made a lot of progress."

*** Saturday Update *** WR Eric Moulds (TEN) has a little extra incentive heading into Sunday's game against the Texans, the club that released him after just one season in Houston. The 12th-year pro said he doesn't hold any grudges, but wants to show them it was a mistake. "Obviously when it happened I thought I could still play," said Moulds. "And any time you play somewhere and leave, obviously you want to came back and have a great showing."

Tight End

*** Saturday Update *** TE Todd Heap (BAL) is "unlikely for Sunday," according to HC Brian Billick.

*** Saturday Update *** TE Ben Watson (NE) has been downgraded to OUT and will miss Sunday's game according to the Boston Globe.

*** Saturday Update *** TE Chris Baker (NYJ) will miss Sunday's game as he was downgraded to out by the team.

Kicker

Offensive Line

Defensive Line

*** Saturday Update *** DL James Hall (STL) has managed to stay on the field this the season, but with a torn chest muscle, he's enduring lots of discomfort to do so. "You've just got to deal with the pain," Hall shrugged. "You can be hurting all week; you just can't be hurting on Sunday." Hall is coming off his best game of the year, according to HC Scott Linehan. "He has a really sore pectoral and played through it and never missed anything" in Baltimore, Linehan said. "That's great leadership."

*** Saturday Update *** DL Leonard Little (STL) will play Sunday against the Seahawks despite an injured toe. Little practiced sparingly Friday after missing Thursday's workout. "(Little) didn't do a whole lot, but he did enough to get himself ready," HC Scott Linehan said. "It's a pain tolerance thing. He'll be ready to go and fine on Sunday. Still, it was a little tender today. He's played through a sore foot before."

Linebacker

*** Saturday Update *** LB Tyjuan Hagler (IND) will make his third career start Monday at Jacksonville, but his first on the strong side, replacing Rocky Boiman. "You've got to embrace it," Hagler said Thursday. "It's a blessing to be in the starting lineup." A fifth-round draft pick in 2005, Hagler started on the weak side against Tennessee and Tampa Bay after a dislocated elbow and concussion sidelined Freddy Keiaho. Hagler also has taken repetitions in practice at middle linebacker. Boiman wasn't thrilled with the demotion. "Obviously I'm very disappointed and I don't know why (the change was made)," Boiman said. "I can only control what I can control."

Defensive Back

*** Saturday Update *** DB Derrick Martin (BAL) is expected to man the nickel back position against the Buffalo Bills. "I'm aggressive," Martin said. "I've got a lot of power with being able to use my hands at the line and things of that sort."

General Team News

*** Saturday Update *** TM Buffalo Bills (BUF) The Bills have released veteran QB Craig Nall for a second time this season and called practice squad QB Gibran Hamdan up to the active roster.

*** Saturday Update *** TM Detroit Lions (DET) OC Mike Martz admits the offense is in a slump. But he won't change his approach. Martz wants to continue challenging defenses even if they try to take away the deep ball and keep sacking QB Jon Kitna. "Here is what y'all need to understand," Martz said. "I trust and believe in these players, and we will not do something because you stop trusting and believing in them. The way we do things is our way of empowering them to play at a high level. Because somebody stumbles or does not succeed entirely does not mean we quit doing what we are going to do."

All the news

Quarterback

*** Friday Update *** QB Kurt Warner (ARI) partially participated in Friday's practice and is questionable to play this weekend. According to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com, Warner wasn't feeling as well after Friday's practice as he was Thursday. Tim Rattay may get the start but it still looks like Warner will at least see time in no huddle situations as he did when he was sharing time with Matt Leinart.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Kurt Warner (ARI) partially participated in Thursday's practice but is feeling better and is now saying he's optimistic he'll be able to start Sunday and is considered a game day decision.

"I did a lot more, was more comfortable," Warner said after practice Thursday. "I had a little discomfort, but not a whole bunch of pain. So I felt good. Again, it's just practice. You're still just throwing and handing it off, but I'm very optimistic."

"Obviously we have to prepare the two Tims (Rattay and Hasselbeck), so the bulk of our practice was concerned with doing that," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "Kurt did a little bit more today, but once again its going to come down to how he feels on game day."

Warner said he found a brace and tape job combination he likes. "They had some other ones that were supposedly some new age answers, so we tried a couple of those and they didn't seem to work to well," he said. "So we went back to the old school. It's not only a brace, but really I think the biggest benefit is just a tape job. Old school tape seems to keep it in place. There's not much movement."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Kurt Warner (ARI) partially participated in Wednesday's practice. Warner will wear an elbow brace to protect torn ligaments in his non-throwing hand during practice this week. But as to who will emerge as the signal caller, be it Warner or QB Tim Rattay is not known. "I guess what they told (Warner) is he can't make it any worse," said Mark Bartelstein, Warner's agent. "He definitely wants to play." Warner said he felt better passing than he did handing off. He'll continue to practice through the week to see if there is improvement enough for him to possibly play this weekend. Warner has been told that playing won't cause additional damage to the MCL in his elbow, of which there is still swelling. For their part, the team is not ruling him in or out for Sunday.

QB Kurt Warner (ARI) HC Ken Whisenhunt specifically did not put forth any time frame on the recovery time for Kurt Warner. Warner has a torn ligament in his left elbow, but surgery is not required and Warner is hopeful of making a quick return to the lineup. The severity of the injury won't be known until Warner tries to practice with the injury. He'll likely wear a brace on the left arm, his non-throwing arm, and could try to practice as soon as Wednesday. It's possible, however, that Warner's arm would be too weak or are in too much pain to allow him to play. While it's not his throwing arm, Warner would have to be able to use the arm to hand off on running plays to the right side. If Warner cannot play, Tim Rattay will start Sunday's game in Washington.

*** Friday Update *** QB Joey Harrington (ATL) partially participated in Friday's practice but is still expected to be available to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Joey Harrington (ATL) partially participated in Thursday's practice. However, Harrington is upset over being benched. "Is it tough? Yeah. It's awful," Harrington said Thursday. "It's terrible. Every week I sit here and I pour every ounce of effort I have into this team. And to be sitting here at 1-5 and to be replaced is a difficult thing to deal with. But it's something I've dealt with before. It's not going to change my confidence in myself and most of all it's not going to change my commitment to this team. Absolutely I'm disappointed. I think I'm allowed to disagree. That's fair in this situation."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Joey Harrington (ATL) partially participated in Wednesday's practice. However, he has reportedly been benched in favor of Byron Leftwich.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Byron Leftwich (ATL) will reportedly start for the team this weekend over Joey Harrington.

QB Kyle Boller (BAL) The Ravens plan to start Kyle Boller under center this week with starting quarterback Steve McNair still recovering from back and groin injuries. After the Ravens' win over St. Louis, HC Brian Billick declared that Boller will probably start against the Buffalo Bills. "We've got to get Steve fully healthy," Billick said. "It's in our best interest to come back after the bye with Steve fully healthy. I don't know that we're going to do that with just one week's time. "When asked if McNair would be able to play against Buffalo, Billick replied: "It's unlikely." The Ravens play the Steelers after their week eight bye.

*** Friday Update *** QB Steve McNair (BAL) did not practice on Friday and is questionable to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Jake Delhomme (CAR) underwent Tommy John Surgery Thursday to repair a torn tendon in his right elbow. A tendon was taken from another part of his body to replace the damaged one and the surgery was a success according to team physician Dr. Pat O'Connor. "His post-operative rehabilitation will start soon and he has an excellent prognosis," O'Connor said.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB John Beck (MIA) John Beck is currently backing up starter Cleo Lemon but has yet to take a snap in a game. No decision has been made about the possibility of Beck playing this season, GM Randy Mueller said. "We'll see how the next few weeks go. I don't know," he said. "I think at some point his day will come. When that is, I don't know. I don' think there is a specific book that you can say 'Hey, this is when you need to show your future quarterback.' We'll see. We obviously like Cleo (Lemon) a lot. Cleo won the backup job in camp and for right now he's going to be the starter."

*** Saturday Update *** QB Trent Green (MIA) has been placed on the injured reserve list and will miss the remainder of the season.

*** Friday Update *** QB Trent Green (MIA) will not play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Trent Green (MIA) did not practice on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Trent Green (MIA) did not practice on Wednesday.

QB Trent Green (MIA) participated fully in Monday's practices, which consisted of a walk-through only, as well as running and lifting weights. He said he feels no symptoms from what was diagnosed the time as a Grade 3 concussion suffered Oct. 7 against Houston. Green said had no memory loss and wasn't feeling any dizziness, having headaches, balancing problems or sensitivity to light less than 24 hours after he was knocked out in the first quarter; All signs that the injury was not as severe as once thought. "As long as that course continues, then my intention would be to come back and play," Green said.

Smith is recovering from a shoulder injury and might be ready to start next week. Trent Dilfer will start and be backed up by QB Shaun Hill.

*** Friday Update *** QB Alex Smith (SF) partially participated in Friday's practice but is still expected to be available to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Alex Smith (SF) partially participated in Thursday's practice. Smith will not be able to play this weekend against the New York Giants. Said Smith: "There is a fine line for going out there and being competitive and trying to play. It's tough because I'm competitive and I think I can do it. But to not have practiced for a couple of weeks and go out there and not be 100 percent confident in your arm and what it can do - it probably wouldn't be the best thing for this team in the big picture."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Alex Smith (SF) partially participated in Wednesday's practice.

QB Alex Smith (SF) received good news on his injured shoulder and it's possible he could be in the lineup this Sunday against the Giants. "I threw pretty good over the weekend, long balls," he said. "I was throwing 55 (yards). I didn't overdo it. There hasn't been much (soreness)." Smith said who has full range of motion, despite having his shoulder taped up while throwing. *** Saturday Update *** QB Vince Young (TEN) will be a game time decision. We'll have the official word about noon ET so check the Sunday Update page for Young's status.

*** Friday Update *** QB Vince Young (TEN) gave owners some hope as he was able to practice some Friday. He ran the scout team offense while Kerry Collins quarterbacked the first team. Coach Jeff Fisher sounded cautiously optimistic that Young might play and said he was a game time decision. Missing practice this week won't keep Young out if he's healthy enough to play Sunday.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Vince Young (TEN) did not practice on Thursday and he's looking very questionable for this week. We'll just have to watch it closely over the next couple of days. Much has been made of them playing his hometown Texans but Young seems focused on the bigger picture.

"It's getting on my nerves, man," Young said of the hype surrounding his return to Houston. "Y'all are pumping it up for some reason, and it's not that crucial. It's a regular game. We have a good football team (we're playing), just like we had a good football team last week."

Coach Jeff Fisher said Young would trust the medical staff: "He is very realistic about the injury. He's trusting the medical staff, and he'll trust whatever they say. In addition to that, he's doing everything he can to heal up as quickly as possible. He is a quick healer. Again, we just have to wait and see."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Vince Young (TEN) did not practice on Wednesday. HC Jeff Fisher said on his weekly radio show that Young is improving, though he is not expected to practice today as the team begins preparation for Sunday's game at Houston. "I saw him (Tuesday), he got treatment twice and he is feeling better and he'll be day-to-day as I said (Monday)," Fisher said of Young. "Perhaps he will not practice Thursday, maybe even Friday. But I still would not rule him out of the game. He is a quick healer and we'll just have to take it day by day."

QB Vince Young (TEN) has a strained quadriceps muscle in his right leg, and his availability for Sunday's game in his hometown of Houston in question. His teammates began bracing for the possibility that Young could miss his first NFL game because of an injury. "He just says he is going to keep praying on it,'' said tight end Bo Scaife, one of Young's closest friends on the team. "When something like this happens, he is one of those guys that looks to God. He is not used to being hurt and missing games, so I am sure he is kind of confused and doesn't know how to react right now." HC Jeff Fisher said on Monday he's still hopeful that Young, who was injured during the third quarter of Sunday's 13-10 loss at Tampa Bay, will be able to play against the Texans.

On Monday, Young underwent an MRI, wasn't moving around too well and remained sore, Fisher said. Young wasn't available to speak to reporters, and the Titans don't regularly make team doctors or trainers available for comment. Fisher said that if the Titans had practiced Monday, Young wouldn't have been able to participate, but he left open the possibility of Young missing practice this week but playing on Sunday. "He'll be day-to-day and our treatment path will be to try and get him back on the practice field as fast as we can,'' Fisher said. "There is no potential surgery required. He is going to have to work through it. He has been a quick healer. We just hope he'll be able to bounce back from it quickly."

Running Back

*** Friday Update *** RB Corey McIntyre (ATL) did not practice on Friday and is not expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Corey McIntyre (ATL) did not practice on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Corey McIntyre (ATL) did not practice on Wednesday.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Willis McGahee (BAL) practiced fully on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Willis McGahee (BAL) partially participated in Wednesday's practice. McGahee had complained about getting beat up after Sunday's 22-3 win. When asked if there was any chance that McGahee wouldn't play in a return to Buffalo this weekend, HC Brian Billick replied, "Not that I'm aware of."

*** Friday Update *** RB Rudi Johnson (CIN) missed the all important Friday practice. He's listed as doubtful and the team is not very optimistic he'll be able to play Sunday although they are still holding out hope. He'll be a game time decision. But with Kenny Watson available, it's very risky to put any stock in Rudi Johnson this week even if he does start as we could have a repeat of last week.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Rudi Johnson (CIN) did not practice on Thursday which makes us nervous about him this week. He worked on the sideline with a strength and conditioning coach. Watch very closely to see if he's able to practice with the team Friday.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Rudi Johnson (CIN) did not practice on Wednesday. However, Johnson is improving from a hamstring injury, one that limited his touches last week.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Travis Henry (DEN) An NFL spokesman said the league has set a November 5th hearing for Travis Henry to have his appeal for a third positive test for marijuana. "I know nothing," Henry said. "I really don't know any dates for anything."

*** Friday Update *** RB Paul Smith (DEN) practiced fully on Friday but remains questionable to play this weekend.

RB Tatum Bell (DET) tried to soften his stance on his desire to remain in Detroit after being quoted as saying, "If you're not going to play me, trade me." With the trading deadline ending today, and the Lions not interested in moving the former starter, Bell was singing a slightly different tune. "I was just a little disappointed that I didn't get to play the second half," Bell said of the Lions loss to Washington two Sunday's ago. "Other than that, I'm going to just keep my head up. When I get in, I just have to make plays."

*** Thursday Update *** RB Kevin Jones (DET) is ready to go according to OC Mike Martz. "The thing that's remarkable about Kevin is that last year we weren't very good in the offensive line and what he was able to generate as a runner and a receiver was pretty remarkable. I think he's a special player and having him close to 100 percent at this point will impact us. It'll be a good shot in the arm for us.''

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Kevin Jones (DET) HC Rod Marinelli said after Wednesday's practice that Kevin Jones is expected to start Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Marinelli said the Lions will continue to monitor his recovery from Lisfranc surgery, but that Jones is expected to get the bulk of the carries.

RB Kevin Jones (DET) looks like he'll take over the starting running back role as the team returns to action after their bye week.

RB Vernand Morency (GB) probably won't be able to go through a full week of practice after the bye, and HC Mike McCarthy said he might be limited all season.

*** Friday Update *** RB Ahman Green (HOU) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Ahman Green (HOU) practiced fully on Thursday.

*** Friday Update *** RB Fred Taylor (JAX) partially participated in Friday's practice but is still expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Fred Taylor (JAX) partially participated in Thursday's practice.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Priest Holmes (KC) was activated and removed from the reserve, non-football injury list. He likely will see a few carries Sunday as he backs up Larry Johnson.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Priest Holmes (KC) practiced again on Thursday. HC Herman Edwards was asked about how RB Priest Holmes' body recovered from his practice on Wednesday. "He was still fresh; he wasn't sore. He went through practice again and had a good practice for what we asked him to do. We'll wait another day and see how he feels tomorrow," Edwards said.

RB Priest Holmes (KC) will practice Wednesday for the first time since a severe 2005 head and neck injury. HC Herm Edwards repeated Tuesday there's a chance Holmes could play at Oakland. Holmes "will put the pads on. He will put the helmet on. Whether he participates in the (Oakland) game or not, we'll see how practice goes," Edwards said. Chiefs president Carl Peterson said he expects Holmes to be activated sooner rather than later. "My sense right now is that he will be ready to go," Peterson said. "I've said a thousand times, those people who question Priest Holmes are very foolish. Throughout his entire career, he's always come back. When he called me last spring shortly before training camp and told me he would like to do this one more time, I felt that I owed him that opportunity."

*** Thursday Update *** RB Lorenzo Booker (MIA) has been working out at wide receiver all week, and HC Cam Cameron didn't rule out using him in that capacity Sunday and the rest of the season. Booker rarely played the position at Florida State University, but he did catches out of the backfield. "I just do what they tell me to do, really," said Booker, who has been inactive for all six games. "That was obviously one of the things I wanted to do coming in and it's just another opportunity to work on some things other than tailback, I mean obviously I've been playing that my whole life so I have room to take some days off at that position."

*** Friday Update *** RB Ronnie Brown (MIA) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

RB Adrian Peterson (MIN) climbed the rookie record books on Sunday, rushing for 224 yards, but HC Brad Childress maintained that he is seeking roughly a 50/50 split between Peterson and starting RB Chester Taylor.

*** Friday Update *** RB Naufahu Tahi (MIN) will not play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Naufahu Tahi (MIN) did not practice on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Naufahu Tahi (MIN) did not practice on Wednesday.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Laurence Maroney (NE) will be a game time decision. Fortunately, New England plays in the early game so we'll have official word on his status about noon ET Sunday. Check the Sunday Update page.

*** Friday Update *** RB Laurence Maroney (NE) partially participated in Friday's practice. But that's a little misleading as the Patriots scrapped their normal Friday practice for a walk through practice in shorts and T-shirts at Dana-Farber Field House. Maroney is listed as questionable and there seems to be a little more optimism Friday that he'll be able to play Sunday. He's waiting for word from coach Belichick. "I'm like you all, I'm waiting to see the answer I'm going to get," Maroney said yesterday.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Laurence Maroney (NE) partially participated in Thursday's practice. Maroney said he doesn't want to rush back from his groin injury just because fellow RB Sammy Morris is sidelined with a chest injury. "I'm feeling better than I was two weeks ago," he said. But, "You've still got to know your body and your injury. Just because another person went down doesn't mean you've got to speed your injury process up and hurt yourself more and now two of you are out for even longer, so you've got to be patient." Maroney said he'll abide by whatever decision HC Bill Belichick makes.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Laurence Maroney (NE) partially participated in Wednesday's practice.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Sammy Morris (NE) has been downgraded to OUT and will miss Sunday's game according to the Boston Globe.

Oakland has three more weeks to decide whether or not to activate Bush, release him, or put him in the Injured Reserve list. "Things could be worse, I could be home," Bush said. HC Lane Kiffin had this to say. "I think he is real close. He continues to work really hard and battle back. We have been real impressed with that he is doing on the field and especially with his attitude."

*** Thursday Update *** RB LaMont Jordan (OAK) practiced fully on Wednesday and on Thursday and looks to be on track to start this week.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Dominic Rhodes (OAK) is expected to get more playing time this weekend. "Yes, we had planned on playing Rhodes more. Our lack of first downs in the run game especially limited our use of him. Dominic is not in the position right now where he can go and play every snap. Not because of his ability but because of all of the protection that he misses out here in practice. Hopefully we will get a better rhythm and get some more use out of him."

RB Dominic Rhodes (OAK) was in uniform for his first eligible game since returning from a four-game suspension. But his lone carry was voided due to a holding call. He did not see any other action and expressed minor frustration. "I just feel like I can help this team win. I don't like being on the sideline. I think I'm pretty good at this game. If I'm sitting on the sideline, I'm just not doing what I can do. Period," he said. HC Lane Kiffin offered that being down 14-0 got the Raiders out of their game plan, but evidence showed the Raiders passed on its first eight downs before giving up two touchdowns to the Chargers.

*** Friday Update *** RB Shaun Alexander (SEA) is expected to play this weekend.

*** Friday Update *** RB Steven Jackson (STL) will not play this weekend.

RB Michael Bennett (TB) has been traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for undisclosed draft picks in 2008 and 2009 based on performance criteria.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Earnest Graham (TB) will likely receive the bulk of the carries this week against Detroit while newcomer RB Michael Bennett continues to learn the extensive play book. "If Earnest does get tired or does come out of the game early like we've seen the last couple games here, you might need to have a little bigger package for the guy," HC Jon Gruden said of Bennett. "So we've got to prepare him for the big picture and the short term also this Sunday.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Michael Pittman (TB) will not play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** WR Patrick Crayton (DAL) says that his team will be in the Super Bowl but he isn't so sure about the Patriots. "If they make it to Arizona, we will see them again," Crayton said Monday. "Seriously, I'm not backing down from that statement. I told my coach that yesterday, and I'm saying it now. Offensively, they are the real deal. I'm not going to lie about that. Defensively? I can tell you, no, they're not at all. The only time they stopped us is when we had penalties. If that's stopping us, it is what it is. Defensively, they're not the real deal."

*** Wednesday Update *** WR Terry Glenn (DAL) will not play this weekend.

*** Friday Update *** WR Javon Walker (DEN) underwent surgery Friday. After saying initially that Walker would miss a "few weeks", coach Mike Shanahan is now saying that Walker could miss six weeks according the Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

*** Thursday Update *** WR Javon Walker (DEN) will undergo surgery on his right knee on Friday and will be out for "a few weeks," coach Mike Shanahan said Thursday. Shanahan then also admitted that there was no precise timetable for Walker's return. Walker missed the past two games because of swelling, but practiced Monday and Wednesday. "Javon's not feeling very good," Shanahan said. "He'll get operated on tomorrow in Houston, so he'll be out for a few weeks."

WR Javon Walker (DEN) returned to practice this week. He missed the past two games with fluid in his surgically repaired right knee. Walker said he may take it easy in practice this week, but there is no way he is going to miss Sunday's game. "It's crunch time," he said. "I got to be out there." Walker said the knee won't be completely healthy until after the season when he can rest it. "I have to play through it," he said. "I'm ready to go."

*** Thursday Update *** WR Calvin Johnson (DET) is fully recovered from his back injury according to OC Mike Martz. "Right up until now, (Johnson) wasn't 100 percent so the things that he can do well we're a little less effective. It was hard for him to change direction. Right now, he's 100 percent.''

*** Wednesday Update *** WR Calvin Johnson (DET) Jon Kitna has expressed his desire to get rookie Calvin Johnson more involved in the offense. "It's a complex system, and so the more you can have guys that have been in it, the better. But the fact remains with Calvin and his skill set, we need to find ways to get him the football a little more, and give him a chance to take advantage of how talented he really is."

*** Wednesday Update *** WR Koren Robinson (GB) was reinstated by the NFL today and can begin practicing with the team immediately. "He's flying to Green Bay and will start to catch up on things with the team. The Packers have a bye week so he has some time to get caught up," said Robinson's agent, Alvin Keels. The Packers will be given a roster exemption until they decide when Robinson can come onto the active roster.

WR Koren Robinson (GB) has petitioned for reinstatement into the NFL, according to league spokesman Greg Aiello, but no date has been set for the final ruling. HC Mike McCarthy said on Monday the team had not been notified of any change in Robinson's status. Robinson would be eligible for reinstatement at the earliest date of October 17.

*** Friday Update *** WR Andre Johnson (HOU) won't play this week but coach Gary Kubiak was encouraged by the progress Johnson is making.

*** Thursday Update *** WR Andre Johnson (HOU) did not practice on Thursday. Johnson has been doing everything possible to get himself ready to return to the field, but he's experiencing weakness in his knee and is uncertain if he'll be able to play this week or even next. Johnson said Dr. Walter Lowe told him his knee injury typically has a six-week recovery period. Johnson was hurt four weeks ago. "I wish I could say in a week or two I'll be back on the field," Johnson said. "But I can't say that. After I run for so long, it gets pretty weak."

*** Wednesday Update *** WR Andre Johnson (HOU) did not practice on Wednesday with the team but did individual work. Said coach Gary Kubiak: "He ran again today. He did more cutting and those type of things. He still did not work with the football team, so we'll see. I think he's day-to-day and he's just waiting any day for us to turn him loose with the guys as far as getting involved in the football part of it, but he's running at full speed and cutting at full speed. We'll just have to make the best decision for him, but he'll be day-to-day."

When asked if Andre Johnson could play Sunday, Kubiak said, "I have a hard time telling you that today. Everything is so good; the rehab process and everything he's doing is so positive, but ya'll know as well as I do until you step out here on the field and do it, it's hard to make that call. I would say, let's wait and see to tomorrow, let's see if he does get some plays in with the team. You know, he looked pretty close to full speed, so we'll see."

WR Andre Johnson (HOU) HC Gary Kubiak said injured Andre Johnson (sprained left knee) could return this week when they host Tennessee. A decision won't be known until at least Wednesday. "He's progressing well; (we're) very, very hopeful that he's ready to go this week," Kubiak said. "We'll run him tomorrow. We liked the progress we saw last week, so we've just kind of got our fingers crossed that he's ready to go this week."

*** Friday Update *** WR Marvin Harrison (IND) is still expected to start Monday night.

"Marvin actually ran, did a lot of individual work, ran [pass] routes, ran around [during Thursday's practice]. My sense is, if I were a betting man, I'd say he'd probably go," Colts coach Tony Dungy said prior to Friday's workout.

"He did a little bit more [Friday] morning and we'll see how much team work we get him in. But he's really much farther along than he was [during the] bye week. Right now, he's doing pretty well."

He's been limited in some things, but I don't think that's held him back on the other things. He works hard on his preparation and assignments, he's matured a lot and he's made a lot of progress."
