*** Saturday Update *** QB Kurt Warner (ARI) stepped into the starting lineup when Matt Leinart was lost for the season and enjoyed a solid season for the club. "I feel good with a lot of things I've done," Warner said. "There are always things I wish I could change, mistakes at critical points in certain games. If I didn't have a few of those, I'd feel really, really good with the way I performed this year and giving this team a chance. I hope through the rest of my career I get a chance to compete (to start) every year. If I'm not good enough to be that guy, then I can accept that."

*** Saturday Update *** QB Vinny Testaverde (CAR) has had enough and has decided that he'll retire after the season finale at Tampa Bay on Sunday.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Charlie Batch (PIT) practiced with the first team all week and is expected to make his first start of the season this weekend in order to allow Ben Roethlisberger to get completely healthy for the playoffs.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Jesse Chatman (MIA) has preached all season long about the need for intensity during practice. He has attempted to play with that passion, too. On Friday, it became clear Chatman wasn't quite as fond of the team's newfound spark, which oddly increased during the final practice of the year. Chatman's wonder: What took so long? "You see a lot of guys trying to turn up their intensity because Bill [Parcells] is here," Chatman said. "What's so funny is, Bill is going to evaluate everything you've been doing since you've been here. So to try to turn it up at the end, it's like, where was that at the beginning? If you needed Bill to motivate you to get you playing, there goes our season right there anyway."

*** Saturday Update *** WR Chris Henry (CIN) When asked about Chris Henry's future with the club, HC Marvin Lewis had this to say. "He has been fine off the field, but I'm not sure he's done enough on the field as a football player. In his attention to detail in meetings, in his attention to detail on the field, he's not where he needs to be."

*** Saturday Update *** WR Marvin Harrison (IND) looks like he's still set to start Sunday and he's expected to see at least a few series of work.

*** Saturday Update *** WR Drew Bennett (STL) is disappointed with the 2007 season. "This is definitely not the season, as far as wins or personal statistics, that I was hoping for. Not even close," said Bennett. "I've played a lot of years, and this is one of the toughest. As far as just the way this season went, and with my personal battles, it's been very difficult."

*** Saturday Update *** TE Todd Heap (BAL) was placed on the injured reserve list Saturday.

*** Saturday Update *** TE L.J. Smith (PHI) HC Andy Reid has officially ruled out L.J. Smith for tomorrow, ending Smith's season and most likely his stay with the Eagles. Smith, limited to 10 games by a variety of injuries, had career lows of 22 catches for 236 yards and just one touchdown. He is the only high-profile unrestricted free agent the Eagles have, but Reid said no decision has been made yet on whether the Eagles will try to keep him.

DL Corey Mace and WR Scott Mayle were called up to the active roster Friday. To make room on the roster, the Bills placed DE Copeland Bryan and LB Coy Wire on injured reserve.

*** Saturday Update *** TM Cincinnati Bengals (CIN) HC Marvin Lewis believes the team must be dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up in order to become an elite franchise. When asked why, Lewis had this to say. "We've struggled with guys who are too much worried about what they make or what the next guy makes. That's hard to overcome, and we've had to deal with it for two years now. Until they get it figured out that that's not the way winning teams operate. When you sign a contract, the next deal signed after yours makes yours somewhat outdated. That's the way it is. Guys who aren't mentally strong enough to understand and deal with that, it's always an underlying factor in everything, instead of moving forward and trying to figure out how you become a champion."

*** Saturday Update *** TM Green Bay Packers (GB) The Packers won't tank it on Sunday against the Lions but it appears that Brett Favre and other starters will not play for very long. About all coach Mike McCarthy would disclose Friday was that he wouldn't sit any starters who are in uniform. McCarthy was vague on how long Favre and starters with an available backup would play. Some starters, especially on the offensive line, have no backups and might have to play 60 minutes. On the other hand, Lions coach Rod Marinelli has intimated all week that he would play it to the hilt. At 7-8, Detroit is seeking its first non-losing season since 2000 as well as its first victory in Wisconsin since 1991.

*** Saturday Update *** TM Jacksonville Jaguars (JAX) The Jaguars made two roster moves on Friday, activating WR Chad Owens from the practice squad and sending rookie WR John Broussard to the season-ending injured reserve.

*** Saturday Update *** TM New England Patriots (NE) The Patriots have promoted practice-squad CB Antwain Spann to fill the final spot on the 53-man roster after Thursday's release of veteran LB Chad Brown.

*** Saturday Update *** TM San Diego Chargers (SD) With starting PK Nate Kaeding nursing a sore leg, the San Diego Chargers have signed veteran PK Dave Rayner to perform kick off duties this weekend. "I got a call on Wednesday from my agent saying they wanted to fly me out (to San Diego) for a tryout," Rayner said. "An opportunity is an opportunity and I'm happy I'm here and happy to kickoff."

He said last week that if Kellen Clemens was healthy, he would automatically get the nod over veteran Chad Pennington. Pennington started Sunday against the Titans in place of Clemens (shoulder/ribs). Speculation is that Clemens will in fact start this Sunday. "He made a lot of progress last week, which is why he was at the No.2 spot (against the Titans)," Mangini said.

"I know what he can do, and I'm not worried about him in the future," Reid said of Kolb. "I don't think one game is going to determine his future."

HC Tom Coughlin said he will do what is in the best interest of the team, so it is very possible some starters may not a lot.
