*** Saturday Update *** QB Matt Moore (CAR) could become the fourth quarterback to start this season for the Panthers on Sunday against Seattle. Testaverde missed his third consecutive practice on Friday for what was officially called a "team decision." While HC John Fox has said Testaverde doesn't have a specific injury and listed him as probable on the injury report, Fox did acknowledge Testaverde has been experiencing general soreness. "It's a game-time decision on what the order will be," Fox said.

*** Saturday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) wants another shot at Jacksonville. "I feel embarrassed," Roethlisberger said. "I didn't play well. It was a bad game for me. I have some redemption in mind. I want to come out and play well. Just not get caught up doing too much. You want to get a win; it's an important game for us."

*** Saturday Update *** DB Dwight Smith (MIN) was ticketed this Thursday evening in Minneapolis for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and obstructing traffic. The fine for misdemeanor possession of marijuana is $125 for a first offense. Smith almost certainly will face far stiffer punishment from the NFL under its substance abuse policy, ranging from one game check to a four-game suspension depending upon his status in the league's confidential program. This marks the second time in two seasons that Smith has been cited for misconduct in downtown Minneapolis and his fourth legal incident since entering the NFL in 2001.

QB Cleo Lemon (MIA) The Dolphins will switch back to veteran Cleo Lemon against Baltimore this week. Barring a last-minute change of heart, Dolphins HC Cam Cameron is expected to announce this decision on Wednesday. Lemon has regained the position from rookie John Beck, who has struggled in his first four NFL starts. Beck failed to lead Miami's offense to a touchdown and was replaced by Lemon in the first quarter of last Sunday's 38-17 loss at Buffalo.

"Since the last time he played, I planned on playing him when we got back here for this game," Kiffin said. "He'll play in some role. The length of that role I haven't determined yet." Russell will play behind either Daunte Culpepper or Josh McCown, whichever of the two is healthier this week.

QB Donovan McNabb (PHI) HC Andy Reid reiterated that Donovan McNabb will continue to be the team's starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. With the Eagles on the outside looking in the playoff picture, rumors of a Kevin Kolb sighting is brewing. But Reid believes the Eagles (5-8) have as good a shot as any team to make the postseason. "One of the great things about this is we are still within striking distance," Reid said. "With three games left, as we all know, anything is possible in the National Football League."

*** Friday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) practiced fully on Friday but is officially questionable to play this weekend. However, Roethlisberger has played with injuries in the past, and it looks like he'll suit up again on Sunday.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) did not practice Thursday for the second straight day because of a sore right shoulder. Roethlisberger also did not practice yesterday. HC Mike Tomlin on Tuesday announced that Roethlisberger had a sore shoulder but that it was nothing serious. "Ben Roethlisberger has a sore shoulder, which may limit him some on Wednesday," Tomlin said. "I don't want to make more out of it than what it is. It is just sore."

Missing practice Wednesday and Thursday raises the worry level on this after Tomlin's comments Tuesday. Watch closely to see if he's able to work Friday.

"I can't believe what Philip tells me so I've got to watch what he does," HC Norv Turner said. "He said he feels better. We'll see how he does tomorrow after doing more." For the second-consecutive day, Rivers took about half the snaps while backup Billy Volek was in the huddle for the rest. Turner saw a little improvement from his starter for Sunday's game. "I thought he was better," Turner said. "I think he went faster today. I don't think he went full speed yesterday."

*** Thursday Update *** QB Philip Rivers (SD) practiced some on Thursday, increasing the chances he'll play in Sunday's home game against the Detroit Lions. "That's the plan, but it's not Sunday," Rivers said. "We don't have to know right now."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Philip Rivers (SD) didn't practice on Wednesday, but he was busy. "He coached a lot," HC Norv Turner joked. "He's trying to get me straightened out." Turner went on to say that Rivers was unsuccessful in his attempts to change the coach's mind and allow him to practice Wednesday. "Philip wanted to practice today," Turner said. "It was really our decision, (Head Athletic Trainer) James (Collins) and myself to not practice him today. I'd expect him to practice tomorrow." Turner said he'll wait until Rivers gets back on the practice field before making a prognosis as to whether or not his starting quarterback will play. "I would never answer that until I see him practice," Turner said. "The fact that he wanted to practice today didn't mean that he was able to. I'd be able to answer that better after he practices tomorrow and we see what he can do."

QB Philip Rivers (SD) has a sprained left knee but anticipates playing this Sunday. Rivers was hurt in the second quarter in week 14 but returned to start the second half. "It was pretty sore this morning, but it shouldn't be anything I can't manage and get better during the week," he said.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Trent Dilfer (SF) will not play on Saturday.

QB Shaun Hill (SF) is expected to start the team's Week 15 game while QB Alex Smith (shoulder) and QB Trent Dilfer (concussion) continue to recover from their injuries.

QB Alex Smith (SF) will in fact have surgery on his right shoulder and be placed on the Injured Reserve list this week. The surgery, which hasn't yet been scheduled, and the ensuing three months of recovery will improve the weakened connection between Smith's collarbone and shoulder. Most of his ligaments in the area were stretched and ripped during the injury. But Smith has said he's felt pressured by HC Mike Nolan to play earlier in the season and accused Nolan of trying to "undermine" his reputation in the locker room by telling players that Smith was using injuries as an excuse for his disappointing play.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Chris Weinke (SF) has been signed by the team. He will take Alex Smith's roster spot.

*** Friday Update *** QB Marc Bulger (STL) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

If he gets through Friday's practice with no problems, Linehan will declare him as the team's starter against the Packers on Sunday. Bulger took about 90% of the snaps with the starting offense on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Marc Bulger (STL) took all the repetitions in practice today and is on track to return after missing two games with a concussion. According to HC Scott Linehan, nothing will be decided until Friday, after two more days of practice and no symptoms. At that time, he will say if Bulger will start Sunday's home game against the Green Bay Packers. "I thought he looked fine," Linehan said. "More importantly, it's how he gets through the week."

RB Reggie Bush (NO) will miss the rest of the season, a league source with knowledge of the situation said Monday night. "It's been a very bad knee for about four weeks, and he shouldn't have been playing on it," the source said. The team has not confirmed this.

RB Justin Fargas (OAK) said he plans to play this Sunday despite sustaining bruised ribs Sunday against the Packers.

"I just tried to get out and test it out a little bit, you know, run around a little bit," Boldin said. "It's still a little sore, but I was able to do a couple of things on it. Unless anything happens, I should be out there Sunday." "'Q' did a little bit," Whisenhunt said. "We're still kind of feeling it out, but he made some progress obviously." Also, Whisenhunt said because of the situation, the Cards will use more of a receiver rotation than usual.

HC Ken Whisenhunt said the team would have a better feel for Boldin's status when practice resumes Wednesday.

Fitzgerald, who is nursing a sore groin, will have to show HC Ken Whisenhunt in pregame Sunday he is ready to play. Whisenhunt said because of the situation, the Cards will use more of a receiver rotation than usual. "Larry did it last week, played the whole game. We spotted him a little bit," Whisenhunt said. "But (the rotation) is good because Bryant (Johnson) has gotten a number of reps and a number of guys have gotten reps in different spots in practice. So there will be more of a rotation involved, at least to start until we are sure of everybody."

WR Brandon Marshall (DEN) Brandon Marshall's court date to enter a plea on a drunken driving charge has been rescheduled until next week, his attorney Harvey Steinberg said. Marshall had been scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, the same day that the Broncos play in Houston against the Texans at 8 p.m. ET. He now is scheduled to appear Dec. 18, Steinberg said.

"It'll be a game-time decision with him," said HC Mike Shanahan. "We'll see how he runs at the game. I can't really tell you at this time (whether he will play)."

WR Brandon Stokley (DEN) did not practice today after only playing two quarters Sunday vs. the Chiefs. "He's still a little sore," HC Mike Shanahan said. Stokley said today that he wouldn't even hit the treadmill for some jogging, opting for complete rest. He worked out on the treadmill last Thursday before practicing a day later in advance of the Chiefs game. "Today I'm going to rest it, see how it feels and then see how it does (Wednesday), see how it feels and then it will probably be a game-time decision," he said.
