Quarterback
*** Saturday Update ***
QB Alex Smith (SF) reentered the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback picture Friday as a backup. Even with an injured shoulder and a sore forearm, Smith can throw the ball better right now than newly injured third-stringer QB Shaun Hill. He struggled to grip the ball and pass it in Friday's practice after dislocating and fracturing his right index finger. "What a strange week," Smith said.
Running Back
*** Saturday Update ***
RB Kenny Watson (CIN) insists that winning is all that is important to him. He also said Rudi Johnson is the starter and, now healthy, Johnson should start. "Worried about getting a win, that's it, however we get it. If my number is called, if it's not, I just want to win." Watson said. "Rudi is the starter. My job is to be prepared if he can't go, to step up and make plays. I just want to win. Special teams, third down, I'm back on a couple of the special teams. Whatever it is, I'll do."
*** Saturday Update ***
RB Vernand Morency (GB) is trying to take things a bit slower. "I feel like I'm a big-play guy and sometimes that hurts me," Maroney said. "Maybe I see too much, and I feel like I have the speed so I can bounce around to the outside, and sometimes that hurts me." Maroney acknowledged that the coaching staff would rather he gain most of his yards in 4- to 5-yard chunks, but he'd rather get more. Since his return from the groin injury, Maroney said, he's been working on "running more like they want me to run, but still with my own style."
*** Saturday Update ***
RB Ahman Green (HOU) will not play this weekend. This will be the fourth time he is inactive, and HC Gary Kubiak could not say for sure that Green will be healthy enough to play again this season. "He has not responded over the last couple of weeks to the rest we've given him," Kubiak said Friday. "He came out and did a little (Thursday). His knee swelled this morning. So he will be down. And we will work from there." Ron Dayne will start in his place.
*** Saturday Update ***
RB Adrian Peterson (MIN) Dr. Johnny Benjamin, an orthopedic specialist from Vero Beach, Fla. has been making the media rounds this week claiming that the Minnesota Vikings, if they make good on the claim that RB Adrian Peterson can return to action in a week or two, are doing so for selfish self-interest, not the betterment of the star rookie or the franchise. He makes some explosive charges and points the finger at head coach Brad Childress, saying that fears that he might be fired if the Vikings finish 4-12 or 5-11 this season, in Benjamin's opinion, are taking precedence to Peterson's health. "Adrian is a competitor and he wants to play," Benjamin said. "But he needs someone to look out for his best interests in the long term."
Wide Receiver
Tight End
*** Saturday Update ***
TE Todd Heap (BAL) will likely miss Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns, HC Brian Billick said after the team worked out today at Owings Mills. Heap reinjured his hamstring trying to catch a jump-ball pass in the end zone in last Sunday's loss to the Bengals.

Defensive Line
*** Saturday Update ***
DL Tommie Harris (CHI) was held out of his third consecutive practice Friday, but Bears HC Lovie Smith vowed Harris would play Sunday at Seattle. Harris, who leads the team with seven sacks, shrugged when asked if he planned to suit up against the Seahawks in a must-win game for the Bears. He's listed as questionable because of his left knee, which was injured on a leg whip by the Dallas' Cowboys' Marc Colombo on Sept. 23 at Soldier Field. "He should be able to go for the game," Smith said. "It's later in the year, and we have a few numbers right now, so we're trying to get him in the best position to play each week. This week, we decided to keep him off it completely."
*** Saturday Update ***
DL Robert Geathers (CIN) has returned to his natural defensive end position after almost a half season playing linebacker. "I just want to play. I feel a little better being back at end, a little more comfortable. It was a good deal," Geathers said Friday. "I think I learned enough that if it comes up again this season I'll be able to move back easily."
*** Saturday Update ***
DL Shaun Smith (CLE) suffered a knee injury during Thursday's practice and is questionable for Sunday's game in Baltimore. The injury had the Browns scrambling Friday to reshuffle its injury-plagued line once again - at a time when both Smith and new nose tackle Ethan Kelley were beginning to make their mark. "He got his knee rolled up on and it's sore," said HC Romeo Crennel. "We took him to the doctor and there's no operation needed, so he's day to day."
*** Saturday Update ***
DL Dewayne White (DET) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the New York Giants because of a triceps injury. White missed last weekend's loss at Arizona. "He's not there yet, but we'll see next week." HC Rod Marinelli said Friday.

*** Thursday Update ***
QB Kurt Warner (ARI) practiced fully on Thursday.
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Kurt Warner (ARI) practiced fully on Wednesday.
QB Joey Harrington (ATL) HC Bobby Petrino will wait until later this week to announce his starting quarterback. He will have to choose between Joey Harrington and Byron Leftwich, who could get medical clearance to play this week. "We've kind of got to wait and see the health of Byron," Petrino said. "There's a lot of things before you consider."
*** Friday Update ***
QB Byron Leftwich (ATL) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend. Leftwich suffered no setbacks from his ankle surgery and appears set to take over the starting quarterback spot.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Byron Leftwich (ATL) partially participated in Thursday's practice.
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Byron Leftwich (ATL) partially participated in Wednesday's practice. In his first practice since the injury, Leftwich impressed Petrino with his quick recovery. "I thought he looked pretty good," Petrino said. "Actually, he looked a little better than I thought he would. He was throwing the ball good. His movement was OK. The thing I worry about is what's going to happen tonight and tomorrow morning, how he reacts to all that work. That's the most work he's done on it in three weeks. We've still got to wait and see how he is physically." Leftwich will start for the team when completely healthy but the hope is that he'll be healthy enough this week to start.
QB Kyle Boller (BAL) Boller will get the start as Steve McNair will miss the next two to three weeks with a shoulder injury. If Boller plays well, he could earn the job for the rest of the season.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Steve McNair (BAL) HC Brian Billick did not deny the possibility that QB Steve McNair could be the backup QB the rest of the season, even after he recovers from his shoulder injury. McNair is in the worst slump of his career, suffering more injuries this season than he has thrown touchdown passes. "It has to do with Steve's strength, as well, and how we're doing as a team." Billick said in reference to whether or not he starts another game this season. But what about McNair's playing days in Baltimore period? "That's a question that I really can't answer. Only time will tell that."
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Steve McNair (BAL) has suffered an injury paving the way for QB Kyle Boller to step in as the starter this weekend against the Cleveland Browns. Ravens HC Brian Billick made the announcement on his weekly radio show on WBAL 1090. "It's a subluxation of the shoulder, which basically means it keeps popping in and out," Billick said. "So, Kyle is starting this week." Billick added that McNair, who went 17-of-26 for 128 yards and one interception in Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, could be sidelined for a minimum of two to three weeks. Rookie QB Troy Smith will now move into the backup position after spending the entire year as the Ravens' 3rd signal caller.
QB Steve McNair (BAL) McNair will miss the next two to three weeks as he deals with a shoulder injury. The reality is that he's looked like a shell of his former self, injured or not. The team will go with Kyle Boller under center.
QB J.P. Losman (BUF) will start again this Sunday against the Patriots. "We will continue with J.P. Losman as our starting quarterback for our game with New England this Sunday," said HC Dick Jauron, citing team continuity as a main reason.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB David Carr (CAR) practiced Thursday and is could play this weekend. The team will have to make a decision between Carr and Vinny Testaverde for this weekend.
*** Friday Update ***
QB Vinny Testaverde (CAR) was named the starter for Sunday's game. David Carr will back him up.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Vinny Testaverde (CAR) should be available to play this weekend but with David Carr returning to health, the team will make a choice between the two QBs later this week.
*** Friday Update ***
QB Brian Griese (CHI) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to be available to play this weekend.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Brian Griese (CHI) partially participated in Thursday's practice.
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Brian Griese (CHI) did not practice on Wednesday.
QB Brian Griese (CHI) The Bears have not announced who will be their starting QB for week 11. After Brian Griese suffered a sprained shoulder Sunday, Rex Grossman entered the game and led the team to a comeback win. When asked about Griese's status for Sunday's game, HC Lovie Smith answered, "Well, first he needs to be cleared medically, and from there, if he's cleared medically, he should be ready to go."
*** Friday Update ***
QB Rex Grossman (CHI) will be the starter this Sunday. It's a week to week situation for the Chicago QBs right now.
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Rex Grossman (CHI) will start on Sunday against Seattle, a team source confirmed Wednesday. Grossman took snaps with the starting offense during Wednesday's walk-through. Grossman came off the bench to spark the Bears' 17-6 win over the Raiders on Sunday after Brian Griese went down with a left shoulder injury.
*** Friday Update ***
QB Jon Kitna (DET) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Jon Kitna (DET) practiced fully on Thursday.
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Jon Kitna (DET) partially participated in Wednesday's practice.
QB Jon Kitna (DET) had his back examined after taking a pounding Sunday at Arizona. Kitna expects to be fine for Sunday's tilt against the Giants. "My lower back is sore all the time," Kitna said. "You just deal with those things. I don't think it's anything that will linger."
*** Friday Update ***
QB Matt Schaub (HOU) has practiced fully this week and is set to return to the starting lineup. He says he feels fine and is healthy and ready to go.
QB Matt Schaub (HOU) will return to the starting lineup after resting over the bye week. "I'm ready to go," said Schaub. "There's no doubt about it. You can't be tentative. I'm planning to throw caution to the wind and play with the same vigor as before the injury."
*** Thursday Update ***
QB David Garrard (JAX) practiced again Thursday and looks to be on track to start barring some sort of setback.
QB David Garrard (JAX) practiced fully on Wednesday and is expected to start this weekend. "We think we're going to have David," HC Jack Del Rio said. "If he goes out and is capable in practice and sharp in doing the things he needs to do to lead our team, then he's going to be our starter. We anticipate having him. We were close last week. We elected to not push it and not have a potential setback and then have a long drawn out deal."
QB Brodie Croyle (KC) will start for the team in Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. "You need a spark," HC Herm Edwards said. "We've been in some contests now where we haven't had the ability to score points. That's part of your job as a quarterback, to put points on the board and move the football team. We've moved at times but we've also been very inconsistent." "We understand what we're walking into when we're playing a young quarterback. At times it might look real good and at times, you might say, 'Why did he do that?' But you know what? So be it. We'll live with that."
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB John Beck (MIA) will start for the team this weekend as they face the Eagles.
QB John Beck (MIA) HC Cam Cameron might be ready to insert rookie John Beck in as the starter. For the first time since midway through the exhibition season Cameron expressed uncertainty about which quarterback he'll start for Sunday's game at Philadelphia. Cameron addressed his two quarterbacks on Monday and told each he had a decision to make - stick with Lemon for the veteran's fifth start of the season or allow rookie John Beck to start in his NFL debut. "We're not that far removed from the game last night," Cameron said. "Our staff will go back through the tape again [Monday night] and get a chance to reflect on it and we'll know by Wednesday what direction we're going."
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Cleo Lemon (MIA) has been benched in favor of rookie John Beck.
QB Tarvaris Jackson (MIN) will be the starter this week after QB Brooks Bollinger struggled heavily during yesterday's 34-0 loss at Green Bay. "I do feel like coming out of training camp (Jackson) was the best quarterback, so I would say you would probably end up being back with Tarvaris" when Minnesota hosts Oakland this week," HC Brad Childress said. "I kind of erred on the side of caution with Tarvaris. It wasn't that he couldn't practice last week, but we started Brooks and it's still my commitment to want to continue to develop (Jackson)."
*** Friday Update ***
QB Tom Brady (NE) partially participated in Friday's practice but is expected to play as normal this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Daunte Culpepper (OAK) has been named the starter against his former team, the Minnesota Vikings. "When you go to a place that you played before obviously emotion is going to be a part of it," Culpepper said Wednesday. "But the main thing is I have to try to keep an even keel even though I know it's going to be crazy. But I'm looking forward to it."
*** Friday Update ***
QB Josh McCown (OAK) partially participated in Friday's practice but is not expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update ***
QB Trent Dilfer (SF) will get the start this weekend as Alex Smith will try to get healthy.
*** Friday Update ***
QB Shaun Hill (SF) partially participated in Friday's practice and is questionable to play this weekend.
*** Friday Update ***
QB Alex Smith (SF) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to be available to play this weekend.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Alex Smith (SF) Smith, who admitted Wednesday to experiencing lingering soreness in his right shoulder and forearm, said Thursday afternoon that he will not start against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Trent Dilfer will get his third start of the season. When asked if he thought he would play again this season, Smith replied, "I think so. A lot of it has to do with what Dr. Andrews thinks and what our doctors think, as far as the long term...how long it's going to take for this to go away. The point is to come back when you're functional, come back when it works and I can be productive."
Smith also said he was frustrated that HC Mike Nolan has characterized his shoulder as a non-issue when in fact it has been anything but. Tuesday, Nolan was pressed about the health of his quarterback and said he's fine. Nolan said Wednesday's admission by Smith was the first he had heard the shoulder has been the root of his problems. He also was not happy Smith went to the media before the head coach. "I spoke with him (Smith) right after practice, and maybe I need to talk to him again because so many things have been said," Nolan said. "As a matter of fact, I'll go see him now. The communication lines aren't as good as I had thought. We'll see what that's about."
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Alex Smith (SF) partially participated in Wednesday's practice and might sit this weekend. Smith finally admitted Wednesday what almost everyone had observed: that his shoulder is greatly affecting his play. And not only that, but his forearm is bothering him, too. HC Mike Nolan has said the reason for Smith's problems with inaccuracy is not tied to his shoulder. However, Smith admitted that his shoulder (as well as his right forearm) has been bothering him. Smith first experienced forearm problems during the bye week after he began throwing a lot after having his right arm in a sling for several days.
QB Alex Smith (SF) turned in another poor performance Monday night against the Seahawks, completing just 12 of 28 passes for 114 yards. But HC Mike Nolan and teammates alike are supporting their starting quarterback. "He'll be all right," OG Larry Allen said. "I believe in him. I'm going to stick with him." Nolan said evaluations on Smith would not be made until after the season, indicating a change at center is not a current option.

RB Marshawn Lynch (BUF) did not practice on Friday and is not expected to play this weekend.
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Marshawn Lynch (BUF) did not practice on Thursday and it's looking like he won't be able to play this weekend.
*** Wednesday Update ***
RB Marshawn Lynch (BUF) was not able to practice Wednesday due to the sprained ankle he suffered in the win over Miami on Sunday. HC Dick Jauron said he was "not optimistic" Lynch would play vs. the Patriots. Jauron said Lynch's injury is more significant than an "average" ankle sprain, and he could be out for several weeks. The Bills are expected to use both rookie Dwayne Wright and veteran Anthony Thomas in Lynch's place.
RB Marshawn Lynch (BUF) underwent further tests Monday on his sprained left ankle, but HC Dick Jauron hopes the rookie running back will be ready to play against New England this weekend. Jauron said Lynch is sore, but noted that initial tests showed no broken bones after the player limped off the field on Sunday. "There is a concern," Jauron said. "But as (Lynch) said last night, he feels like he'll play. We've got to kind of wait and see on that one. But he's very upbeat."
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Anthony Thomas (BUF) HC Dick Jauron did not say who would start in place of injured RB Marshawn Lynch, who will likely miss this week's game with a sprained ankle. Jauron, who hasn't ruled out Lynch yet but isn't optimistic, also said he would work all three running backs, veteran Anthony Thomas, rookie Dwayne Wright and backup Fred Jackson into the mix. "We'll hope and see what happens, but if (Lynch) can't go, we'll go on to our other three guys, and we like them all."
*** Friday Update ***
RB DeShaun Foster (CAR) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

RB DeShaun Foster (CAR) practiced fully on Thursday.
*** Wednesday Update ***
RB DeShaun Foster (CAR) did not practice on Wednesday
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Rudi Johnson (CIN) remains the starting RB, but a controversy of sorts could be brewing as it's been determined by HC Marvin Lewis that backup RB Kenny Watson has been more beneficial to the team's running game. Watson has a 4.4 average yards per carry to Johnson's 2.6. "We ran the football more effectively in the games Kenny played than in the games Rudi has been in more," Lewis said. "Kenny gets the ball in different situations, as well, when the field is spread a little bit wide open and things that way. That would be part of it."
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Jamal Lewis (CLE) ran for 216 yards against the Bengals in Week 2, but in the remaining seven games he's played he has 299 yards. Lewis cited good defenses and playing from behind as reasons why his production has slipped some lately. "There's a lot of things from the outside looking in that people just won't understand and it's not for me to explain," said Lewis. "My coaches are happy with what I'm doing and want me to push on and they know what's going on." HC Romeo Crennel isn't worried either. "When he ran for 200, we felt pretty good about him then," Crennel said. "I think he still has that kind of ability. We'll give him more opportunities - get him into the open some and when he does that he gains yards."
*** Friday Update ***
RB Lawrence Vickers (CLE) did not practice on Friday but is expected to play this weekend.
*** Friday Update ***
RB Travis Henry (DEN) did not practice on Friday as he was presenting his case to the NFL. He is officially questionable to play this weekend with a knee injury. "I'm not going to say I'm 100 percent," he said after Thursday's practice. "We've got until Monday, so we'll see."
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Travis Henry (DEN) has a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his left knee, but was prepared for practice Thursday afternoon. What happens at practice could well determine whether he could line up against the Titans on Monday. "I feel like I can play, but I'll see what I can do today; that's going to determine when I get back," he said. Henry had a brace covering his knee, but he noted it was for practice-time use only. "I'm not going to wear it in any games," he said. Henry's hearing with the NFL has been moved up to Friday.
RB Travis Henry (DEN) has convinced his HC that he's an innocent man. "If I thought the test was positive, Travis would not be on our football team," HC Mike Shanahan said Monday. Shanahan also indicated Henry passed a lie detector test and a recent hair sample tested negative for marijuana. Henry is scheduled to present his case in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday. If he doesn't win his appeal, Henry could face a one-year suspension from the league.
*** Friday Update ***
RB Paul Smith (DEN) partially participated in Friday's practice and is questionable to play this weekend.
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Paul Smith (DEN) did not practice on Wednesday.
RB T.J. Duckett (DET) could see more playing time in the coming weeks as starting RB Kevin Jones continues to labor with his foot injury during the early portion of each week. Jones typically takes Mondays and Tuesdays off to rest, but the Lions next two home games come just five days apart. They host the Giants Sunday followed by the Packers next Thursday on Thanksgiving. How much Jones can contribute with little rest in between could determine Duckett's playing time.
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Kevin Jones (DET) The Lions will play two games in five days beginning Sunday and again next Thursday on Thanksgiving. Kevin Jones, who aggravated his foot injury last week, practiced Wednesday and said he'll be ready for both games. "I don't see it as being an issue," Jones said. "I've just got to be careful of what I do in practice, and I'll be fine for both."
*** Friday Update ***
RB Ron Dayne (HOU) will start for the team this weekend in place of the still-injured Ahman Green.
*** Friday Update ***
RB Ahman Green (HOU) will not play this weekend.
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Ahman Green (HOU) partially participated in Thursday's practice. When asked after practice about RB Ahman Green, Houston Texans HC Gary Kubiak gave the following response: "I think it's just touch-and-go. There's nothing different. He did just a little bit today which was our plan, individuals, just a few reps. We'll know more tomorrow. I know it's frustrating for you all and everybody but that's the way we're going to treat him and if he works tomorrow and feels good and says he can go, then he'll be ready to go."
*** Wednesday Update ***
RB Ahman Green (HOU) did not practice on Wednesday. Green was sent by the team to Birmingham, Ala., to be examined by Dr. James Andrews. "The good news is that they didn't find anything else," head athletic trainer Kevin Bastin said. "He's got some tendinitis in his knee, and he took a blow to it. We're hopeful that he's turned the corner." "We're going to continue monitoring what he can tolerate and how he reacts from day to day," coach Gary Kubiak said. "We'll keep the same plan, which is for him to work a little on Thursday, a little on Friday and be ready to go on game day. If something alters that and he doesn't think he can go, then we'll have to make adjustments, but that's the way we're going to treat it the rest of the year."
*** Friday Update ***
RB Larry Johnson (KC) is out this weekend, but says he will play again this season. "It's going good," Johnson said Friday. "A lot of people don't realize my foot was swollen bad at the end of the game, then I was on crutches for two, three days. This is only the first week and I'm able to walk fine without using a boot."
*** Wednesday Update ***
RB Larry Johnson (KC) will not play this weekend.
RB Larry Johnson (KC) President and GM Carl Peterson released a statement Tuesday, officially declaring Larry Johnson out for Sunday's game at Indianapolis. Johnson is receiving treatment on his injured right foot twice a day and will see a specialist next Monday.
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Ricky Williams (MIA) HC Cam Cameron decided Thursday to welcome Ricky Williams back, and he'll be on the field starting with Monday's workout. "He'll be a member of this team," Cameron said. "He's a Miami Dolphin." As part of the NFL drug program, Williams underwent therapy for the past 5 months in Boston. He declined to discuss the treatment but said he was confident drug testing won't derail his latest comeback.
*** Wednesday Update ***
RB Ricky Williams (MIA) Ricky Williams' suspension ended after more than 18 months today when he was reinstated by the NFL. Williams is scheduled to fly to South Florida for a physical Thursday and meet with HC Cam Cameron, said Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg. Cameron has given no indication publicly he wants Williams. But Steinberg said he was encouraged by a phone conversation Wednesday with Matt Thomas, Dolphins general counsel-football administration. "His indication was they were interested in Ricky," Steinberg said. "The spirit of the discussion was welcoming. It was a very similar discussion to what you would have regarding a draft choice or any returning player. The only contingent was whether they would have him practice Friday or Monday." Williams is eligible to attend team meetings and practice immediately, but the earliest he would be allowed to play in a game would be against Pittsburgh on Monday night, Nov. 26. The team will have a roster exemption for up to two weeks if and when he starts practicing.
*** Friday Update ***
RB Adrian Peterson (MIN) will not play this weekend.
*** Thursday Update ***
RB Adrian Peterson (MIN) did not practice on Thursday.
*** Wednesday Update ***
RB Adrian Peterson (MIN) did not practice on Wednesday.
RB Adrian Peterson (MIN) Renowned surgeon Dr. Johnny Benjamin believes the Vikings should shut down rookie Adrian Peterson for the rest of the season after tearing an LCL in his right knee. "It's a torn ligament, and a torn ligament is going to take six weeks to heal. And that's for someone like a doctor or news writer, who doesn't go out there and make cuts like Adrian Peterson obviously does," Benjamin said. *** Thursday Update ***
RB Brian Westbrook (PHI) did not practice on Thursday but the team feels he'll be able to go this weekend.
In related news, Westbrook signed a five year, $25 million deal in 2005, which included a $6 million signing bonus. Asked whether or not that remains a fair deal, Westbrook hinted that it very well may not be any longer. "The contract I signed back then, it made sense for me at that point," said Westbrook, who also tried to steer focus back towards the team and their season. Westbrook held out of training camp before signing his deal in 2005 and he's likely trying to rework his deal before he turns 30 in two seasons. The Eagles are wary of signing veterans to big deals once they hit the magic number. "You never know what's going to transpire. There's nothing guaranteed in the NFL except for your signing bonus, so you try to maximize that as much you can," Westbrook said.

RB Antonio Pittman (STL) is officially the team's backup RB behind Steven Jackson. Brian Leonard had previously filled that role, but Pittman will serve as the No. 2 back and spell Jackson occasionally during games. Leonard will be the primary fullback and occasional third-down back. Pittman was claimed off waivers from the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 2. "The idea was, at some point, he was going to be at that spot," HC Scott Linehan said. "We are now in a position where we can use Brian in primarily the fullback spot, which is why we drafted and brought him here. Pittman had enough time in our offense at this point that we felt he would be ready to be the No. 2 guy at the tailback spot."

WR Javon Walker (DEN) ran some pass routes during practice Wednesday, the first time he had done that since arthroscopic knee surgery last month. However, Walker was still in warmups, the rest of Broncos were in their jerseys and the veteran is still in wait-and-see mode about when he will play in a game. "I'm just kind of taking the time to see what the coaches want me to do, the trainers, they just don't want anything to be another setback,'' Walker said. "So they're going to kind of monitor it and hopefully when they feel comfortable with me to get out there and start practicing that's what I'm going to do. Right now, (I'm) just taking it day to day. I'm just waiting to see whenever they think the situation is right.''

The next six days are key for me, but I don't think I'll be limited in any way. To be honest, I'm not even really worried about my knee. When I'm out there playing, I'm not really thinking about it. I'm concentrating on just trying to make sure my technique and the depth of my routes are the same as when I left. You tend to do things faster because you're so anxious to make a play, but at the same time, you don't want to do anything crazy to hurt your team."
