*** Saturday Update ***
OL Cleveland Browns (CLE) The Browns have placed G Seth McKinney on the injured reserve list, which means he will be lost for the season. McKinney hurt his shoulder against the Seattle Seahawks and yesterday was ruled "out" for the Browns match-up against the Steelers this Sunday. Veteran offensive linemen Lennie Friedman and Ryan Tucker are both candidates to replace McKinney.
*** Saturday Update ***
OL Green Bay Packers (GB) The Packers were hoping to start injured Junius Coston at right guard against the Minnesota Vikings, but indications are that it will be Jason Spitz lining up against the tough DT tandem of Pat Williams and Kevin Williams. Coston wasn't able to do much in practice Friday, basically watching left guard Daryn Colledge and Spitz work with the No. 1 unit. Coston started Weeks 2-5 before suffering an ankle injury. "Coston's availability was not what we had hoped," HC Mike McCarthy said. "So if we had played the game today, it would be Spitz and Colledge. Junius is not 100% right now." The coaches have been dissatisfied with the run blocking by Colledge and Spitz. Those deficiencies could be magnified against the Vikings.

*** Saturday Update ***
DB Anthony Henry (DAL) said he still is not quite ready to start after fully participating in practice this week and that he likely will continue playing on the change-up defense at right corner. "(My ankle) is all right," Henry said after practice Friday. "I knew it'd be sore the next day, being my first time playing in a game. I didn't realize I played in as many plays as I did but it felt fine. They've been doing a good job of monitoring the plays I've been playing in and they've been doing a good job of treating it."
General Team News
*** Saturday Update ***
TM Carolina Panthers (CAR) The Panthers have promoted QB Drew Olson to the 53-man roster after he spent all of three days on the practice squad. If veteran QB Vinny Testaverde can't go, Olson would back up QB Matt Moore, who he once bumped out of a job at UCLA. To make room for Olson, they released FB Billy Latsko, who'll revert back to the practice squad next week for sure.
*** Saturday Update ***
TM Minnesota Vikings (MIN) HC Brad Childress, with the backing of owner Zygi Wilf, has given WR Troy Williamson his game check for Week 9. Childress originally docked Williamson the game check for missing the game while attending to matters related to his grandmother's funeral. "I think the important thing is everybody grieves differently. That's the thing that I learned, or we learned, in this," Childress said. "In the end, it's not important to be right, but to get it right."

*** Thursday Update ***
QB J.P. Losman (BUF) may not have such a lock on the starting job after all. HC Dick Jauron, on Thursday, would not commit one way or another on the team's long-term plans at quarterback, only to say that this week Losman will start against Miami. "I don't know that we want to talk about the rest of the year, we're just talking about the Miami Dolphins," Jauron said. "What's happened to this point has kind of been dictated by injury and then by performance. We'll just keep moving along here and hopefully we won't change a lot. But we don't know the answer to that."
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB J.P. Losman (BUF) Losman's performance last Sunday has made quite an impact on HC Dick Jauron and was the driving force behind him keeping his starting job. "I think we'll just keep moving along here and hopefully we won't change a lot," said Jauron concerning the quarterback position. "It's not like we're looking for a quarterback. We feel like we have at least two that we think can play and hopefully win in this league."
QB J.P. Losman (BUF) HC Dick Jauron named J.P. Losman his starting quarterback for this weekend's game at Miami. "J.P. Losman will start at quarterback against the Miami Dolphins," Jauron said. "He did an outstanding job finishing the Jets game and in leading us to victory over the Bengals this past Sunday." "He played well," said Jauron Monday. "There are always plays every quarterback would like to have back, but he played well. He threw some tremendous balls, threw them with authority and moved it around."
*** Friday Update ***
QB David Carr (CAR) will not play this weekend. Carr said today that if he feels multiple concussions threaten his quality of life after football, he won't hesitate to give up the game. "Health is first and family is first. Football is fun. But that's not something you mess around with," said Carr. "I have three boys at home and a family and after all this is done that is where I'm going to be spending my time. I don't want to have to have the same intellectual level as my 7-year-old son right now." Carr said he's not in any danger right now.

QB David Carr (CAR) has a concussion to go with Vinny Testaverde's Achilles tendonitis. When asked which one he'd prefer if both were healthy, HC John Fox replied: "We'll play whoever's ready."
*** Friday Update ***
QB Vinny Testaverde (CAR) did not practice on Friday and remains questionable to play this weekend. He had pain return to his ankle and achilles area. "It (ankle) was a little sore, and we just elected to rest him," Panthers head coach John Fox said about Testaverde, adding that the veteran is "day-to-day."
If Testaverde can't go, it would be rookie Matt Moore to get the start. Testaverde's status will be determined after they see how he feels Saturday and he could be a game time decision.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Vinny Testaverde (CAR) is the leading candidate to start at quarterback for the Carolina Panthers after he practiced for a second straight day Thursday. Testaverde and rookie Matt Moore took all the snaps as David Carr missed his second straight practice with a concussion. However, HC John Fox held off selecting a starter for Sunday's game against Atlanta, but he did say Testaverde has looked good after he was sidelined with a right Achilles' tendon injury last week. "He got through practice fine today," Fox said.
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Vinny Testaverde (CAR) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to start this weekend. "I feel great right now. Hopefully there are no setbacks, which I don't anticipate," said Testaverde, who turns 44 next week. "I'm excited about it. I think we made the right decision in not pushing it last week."
*** Friday Update ***
QB Jay Cutler (DEN) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Jay Cutler (DEN) practiced again Thursday and is expected to start.
*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Jay Cutler (DEN) wants to play Sunday in Kansas City, and it looks like he will. HC Mike Shanahan said following Wednesday's practice that if Cutler didn't suffer "a setback, he should be ready to go." Cutler suffered a severe bruise to his lower left leg in the first half of the loss to the Lions Sunday and wore a pad on the outside of his leg during Wednesday's practice. Cutler took most of the work with the first-team offense, Shanahan said. "I'm not sure how much it hurt, but he was productive out there and took his normal reps, maybe a little less," Shanahan said. "But it was a good sign."
QB Jay Cutler (DEN) The MRI on Jay Cutler's leg was negative, revealing no stress fracture of the fibula, according to HC Mike Shanahan. Shanahan said that Cutler is "quite sore, and we'll see how he feels on Wednesday."

"So it's affecting my post-career modeling career a little bit - that might be shot now. I'll have to find a different way to make some income after my career is done, I guess."
*** Friday Update ***
QB David Garrard (JAX) partially participated in Friday's practice and is questionable to play this weekend with his ankle.
Although he is feeling better. "I honestly didn't think it was going to feel that good," Garrard said after reporting no swelling in the ankle. He'll be a game time decision.

*** Wednesday Update ***
QB Damon Huard (KC) HC Herman Edwards hinted that unless the Chiefs offense begins to show signs of life, he will consider switching out starter Damon Huard and inserting backup Brodie Croyle. "My whole deal now is if we're going to win this division or have a shot at it, we've got to score more points," Edwards said. "We can't keep playing the way we're playing. There comes a point to where if we don't get this thing going, I'm going to have to do something."
QB Cleo Lemon (MIA) HC Cam Cameron announced Monday that Cleo Lemon will remain the starting quarterback indefinitely, putting the start of rookie John Beck's career on hold. Beck and Lemon will continue to split repetitions with the first-team offense during practice, Cameron said.

Brooks Bollinger more than likely would be the starter if Jackson and Holcomb cannot go.

QB Donovan McNabb (PHI) HC Andy Reid said Donovan McNabb would continue as the team's starting QB (despite three turnovers against the Cowboys) but stopped a bit short of saying the veteran has a lock on the position. When asked if a healthy McNabb would remain the starter, Reid replied, "Yeah, that's where I'm looking at things. Again, nothing is guaranteed. That's how I'm looking at it, yes."
*** Friday Update ***

*** Thursday Update ***

QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) did not practice on Wednesday.
QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) has a bruised right hip, but he should be ready to play against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, according to HC Mike Tomlin.
QB Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) will likely get to throw the ball more in the second half of the season as HC Mike Holmgren seems intent on going back to the air more frequently. "I was encouraged by our receivers and how we threw the ball [Sunday]," Holmgren said, "and that might be the way we have to go now. Play to our strengths just a little bit, how we're going right now. Instead of striving for balance, maybe we have to tip the scales just a little bit to be at our most productive. It puts a lot on Matt's shoulders, but in the long haul it might help our running game."
QB Alex Smith (SF) had a few regrets after watching film of the 49ers-Falcons debacle on Sunday. Smith was erratic all game, failing to connect with WR Bryan Gilmore when he burst into the open on a deep route in the second quarter ... and when TE Delanie Walker later beat his man ... and when WR Darrell Jackson ran a fade pattern near the goal line, only to see the pass float out of bounds. "Those three plays stick out in my mind," Smith said Monday. "Those are missed opportunities, game changers, the ones you'd like to have back. ... I'd like to have six throws back (including his three interceptions). I look back and think what could have been. No excuses. You've got to hit those plays if you want to win games."
*** Thursday Update ***
QB Marc Bulger (STL) said his two broken ribs are close to completely healed and the swelling in his bruised knee has gone down, but the bruised thumb on his throwing hand was still sore. HC Scott Linehan said Bulger threw the ball well in practice on Thursday despite the thumb problem. "It looked like it was still bothering him some yesterday," Linehan said. "He threw fine, but I could see it was still bothering him."

RB Ahman Green (HOU) The Texans have asked Ahman Green to visit with Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama. Green has been limited at best, and missed several games with soreness in his knee. "We're trying to find out what's really going on, why it's swelling and giving me pain and discomfort," said Green, who has had three MRI exams done, all showing no damage.
RB Ahman Green (HOU) Green's right knee forced him out of another game in week nine. "I hurt my knee against Kansas City, and it hasn't been right since," said Green, who left midway through the second quarter. "I feel like I've been playing with a flat tire all season. A car doesn't run right with a flat tire. Eventually, I'll get it fixed, but I don't think it'll be until after the season." That's not good news for the Texans, who may have to turn to other options. "We need him to finish games," RT Eric Winston said. "And if he can't do it, then we're going to have to turn to Ronnie (Dayne). Ronnie and (Adimchinobe Echemandu) have to step up. If (Green) can't go and he can't finish, we might as well start Ronnie and those guys until he can get healthy."
*** Friday Update ***

*** Thursday Update ***
RB Larry Johnson (KC) did not practice on Thursday. From a statement from GM Carl Peterson: "According to our Chiefs medical staff and its most recent evaluation of Larry Johnson last evening (Wednesday, November 7), Larry has made significant improvement with less swelling and pain in his injured right foot. His status will be re-evaluated again early next week with further exams and tests. His status for this week is doubtful to out."
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported that Johnson is improving and is currently "day to day". He said that it looked like Johnson would return sooner rather than later.
*** Wednesday Update ***
RB Larry Johnson (KC) has been declared out for this weekend by HC Herman Edwards. "He's not playing this week," Edwards said Wednesday. Johnson did not participate in Wednesday's practice, and Edwards said that Johnson's foot remains swollen so any reports issued regarding a season-ending broken bone in the foot are premature. "His foot is still swollen and (the doctors) are still trying to look at to determine exactly where he's at," Edwards said.
RB Larry Johnson (KC) has a mid-foot sprain and is expected to miss this weekend's game according to HC Herman Edwards. MRI results will be coming tomorrow as well. Edwards said that until Johnson returns, RB Priest Holmes will take over Johnson's role, and rookie RB Kolby Smith will now have the role that Holmes had.
Unofficial reports say that Johnson will miss the remainder of the season.

RB Shaun Alexander (SEA) has a broken left wrist that will probably keep him in that cast for the rest of the season. Also, HC Mike Holmgren says Alexander might not practice much this week because of soreness from minor left knee and ankle sprains he suffered last Sunday. "It's my understanding it wasn't real serious," Holmgren said of Alexander's latest injuries. "At this point I don't know what the situation will be by the end of the week. Henry has not been charged with a crime. As for if the incident is enough to jeopardize Henry's status for the game this weekend, NFL spokesman Greg Aielli says no. "Based on the info below, the answer would be no," Aiello wrote in an e-mail to The Enquirer after viewing this report. "It is not an issue in terms of his playing status at this time." "If he does then maybe he'll have a chance to play against Tennessee on Monday night (Nov. 19)," Shanahan said. "We won't know that until later on in the week. We'll wait and see when he runs and gets into football shape. It's been a while since he has actually run and worked out, so we'll have to see where he is at toward the end of the week."

When asked if Johnson's back injury slowed his development, OC Mike Martz said the following: "We didn't have him last week until the last part of the week, we weren't sure we were going to have him. So you don't really plan on him and you've got to be very careful on how much he's in the plan. We had him for a few weeks and then he got hurt.

OL San Francisco 49ers (SF) LT Jonas Jennings was placed on injured reserve Tuesday according to HC Mike Nolan. Jennings sustained a high ankle sprain in the second quarter of the 49ers' loss to the Giants on Oct. 21. He missed the next two games with the injury. Rookie Joe Staley, who is capable of playing left tackle, will remain as the starter on the right side, Nolan said. Adam Snyder, who struggled against the Falcons, will continue to start at left tackle.
RG Justin Smiley dislocated his right shoulder in the first quarter on a RB Maurice Hicks' touchdown run. "It's the most excruciating pain since I've been playing ball," he said. "I would have stayed in, but unlike last year, this one (the bone) came out and stayed out for 20 minutes. They had injected me with muscle relaxant because the muscles around it were spasming. I could tell from the get-go it was going to stay out."

DL Jonathan Babineaux (ATL) expressed relief Wednesday after he was cleared of a felony animal cruelty charge that could have sent him to prison. "I'm just happy the whole situation is over with," Babineaux said. "It's been a long process. I've been waiting it out and it's finally over." Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said Wednesday he dismissed the charges following an investigation of the death of a pit bull in February. Pat McDonough, Babineaux's attorney, said it proved Babineaux acted only in self-defense against the aggressive dog that belonged to the player's girlfriend. McDonough said Babineaux was protecting himself and his 5-month-old child. "This was a clear case of self-defense," McDonough said. "The dog had a history of violence. Jonathan and his family did everything in their power to make this dog part of their family."

"I think he's got quickness and strength. We'll see where he is pass rush-wise. But if he will help us on the pass rush, we'll put him in there, too."

DL Vonnie Holliday (MIA) returned to practice Monday for the first time in more than a month. "It's like watching your kid out on that playground and that bully is out there," Holliday said. "It's the equivalent of that. It may be your kid's first game. You're watching and you can get upset, you can yell, you can scream, but you can't go out and take his place for him. He has to take his lumps, he has to learn. That's what it's been like. Today was a big step, a positive one. It felt good out there running around. DL Leonard Little (STL) will have surgery this week to repair a torn ligament in his left big toe, effectively ending his season. "It isn't the type of injury where it will heal on its own," Little said. "If that was the case, then it should have felt a lot better by now. Surgery is the only way to repair the ligament. We tried to give it two weeks for it to heal back up, but it never responded like it's supposed to."
