Offensive Upgrades / Downgrades

Upgrades

QB Drew Bledsoe - DAL - Two of his next three opponents are Tennessee and Houston. Both should help Bledsoe pad his stats.

QB Mark Brunell - WAS - He completed an amazing 24 of 27 passes (22 in a row), but that might say more about Houston’s coverage. Mark relied heavily on screen passes and short routes and they were open all day. This could be just the confidence boost Brunell needs to catapult this team to bigger things.

QB Jake Delhomme - CAR - It’s all about Steve Smith. With him on the field, this whole offense looked better. And no one benefited more than Jake Delhomme. If Steve Smith can continue to stay healthy, we expect Jake to respond well the rest of the way. Carolina faces New Orleans and Cleveland the next two weeks. Those should be great confidence games for Delhomme.

QB Brett Favre - GB - Against good to great defenses, Brett will likely struggle. But against mediocre to bad defenses (like Detroit this past week), Brett still can deliver huge games. He leads all QBs after three weeks with 120 pass attempts. In leagues that do not penalize for interceptions, Favre’s value is even higher.

QB Charlie Frye - CLE - He is averaging over 20 points a game. He has scored 3 TDs on the ground and has found a play-maker in Braylon Edwards. The running game is struggling badly so expect Charlie Frye to continue to have a big role in this offense.

QB Bruce Gradkowski - TB - Chris Simms is likely out for the year. Even if Simms could return, it’s doubtful he would as the team is not likely going to go to the playoffs (already 0-3). Gradkowski looked very good in the preseason against vanilla defenses. The rookie gets his chance now. The time to get him is now before he actually plays a game. Tampa Bay will be on a bye giving the rookie two weeks to prepare for the Saints.

QB Matt Hasselbeck - SEA - Shaun Alexander is now out with a broken foot. Deion Branch looked great in his debut with his new team. Darrell Jackson continues to score TDs. Look for the Seahawks to start putting more of the offensive load on Hasselbeck going forward. He faces a tough matchup in week 4 (Chicago) and then a bye, but expect Holmgren to roll out multiple WR sets starting in week 6.

QB Damon Huard - KC - The Chiefs play San Francisco and Arizona next. Coming off the bye this past week, Damon should be ready to play these two soft defenses. If you are desperate at QB, he could fill in.

QB Jon Kitna - DET - Against the soft Packers’ defense, we finally saw this Mike Martz offense in full glory. Kitna responded with 342 passing yards and 2 TDs on 40 attempts. Mike Martz gets to showcase this new offense at his old home as Detroit travels to play St. Louis next week. We expect Kitna to remain sharp.

QB Matt Leinart - ARI - Kurt Warner continues to fumble and throw interceptions. Matt Leinart waits in the wings and could start as early as this week. And with the weapons this team has at its disposal, Matt could very well keep the job the rest of the year.

QB J.P. Losman - BUF - He ran for a TD, tossed another and threw for a career best 328 yards. There is clearly no controversy at QB in Buffalo. This is his team. We are not suggesting he is a start in most fantasy leagues, but he has shown that he can serve as a bye week replacement or backup on your squad.

QB Carson Palmer - CIN - His Bengals are dominating opponents on both side of the ball so he likely will not need to throw for as many yards as last year. But make no mistake about it. He’s as good a quarterback as there is in this league. When his Bengals’ defense created turnovers, he was quick to strike with an endzone toss (and TD). The Patriots just yielded 400 total yards (and two huge plays to Javon Walker). I am guessing they are not excited to go play against Palmer in week 4.

QB Jake Plummer - DEN - Jake had no fumbles and no interceptions while leading his team to victory. This was exactly the game he needed to have to keep Jay Cutler at bay.

QB Alex Smith - SF - Only 5 QBs have thrown for more yards than Alex Smith this season. He has only thrown for 3 TDs through three games, but has yet to yield an interception. What makes this even more amazing is the fact that he has played most of these minutes missing at least one of his starting tackles. Because SF will likely be playing from behind in many contests this year, Smith should yield nice numbers often.

QB Vince Young - TEN - The team is 0-3 and a mess. No one expects this team to rebound. The owner wants the franchise in there sooner rather than later. We expect he will be named the starter in week 4 or 5.

RB Tatum Bell - DEN - He had 27 carries while Mike Bell had 4. The team has a bye in week 4 and faces the tough Baltimore defense in week 5. Look to pry Tatum over to your squad before the week 6 games.

RB Ron Dayne - HOU - For now he is the starting running back for the Houston Texans. He actually gained more than 4 ypc so we expect him to hold onto the job for at least another week. Samkon Gado will provide competition if Dayne struggles.

RB DeShaun Foster - CAR - We were a little too quick in predicting the demise of DeShaun Foster. One week after being out-played by rookie DeAngelo Williams, Foster reclaimed his status as Carolina’s #1 RB. He had 82 yards on 20 carries while Williams lost a yard on 4 carries. HC John Fox prefers veterans so a change isn’t likely unless Foster goes down with an injury or the team gets eliminated from post-season play. Right now Carolina is back in the hunt at 1-2 and faces the Saints and Browns in weeks 4 and 5 (two games they can win).

RB Ahman Green - GB - He remains a big weapon on the Packers. He is especially valuable in PPR leagues and caught 8 passes for 68 yards and a score yesterday. Despite being a game-time decision this past week, Green was in on almost all of the plays.

RB Edgerrin James - ARI - He made the most of a bad opponent garnering 94 rushing yards and a score. J.J. Arrington and Marcel Shipp did not have a single carry.

RB Kevin Jones - DET - He continues to get a lot of looks in the passing game. He finished the day with 125 combined yards and a TD.

RB Maurice Jones-Drew - JAX - He likely locked down the backup RB role with a nice performance here. He ended up with 103 rushing yards (on just 13 carries) and caught 4 passes for 32 yards and a score.

RB Laurence Maroney - NE - Dillon suffered an arm injury and did not return. Maroney did not close the door with a huge game though gaining just 18 yards on 12 carries. He was a factor in the passing game catching 5 passes for 61 yards. If Dillon misses anytime, Maroney’s value could sky-rocket.

RB Willis McGahee - BUF - He had a career high 150 rushing yards on just 26 carries. He also was targeted 5 times in the passing game. If he can start finding the endzone, McGahee could be an elite back the rest of the way.

RB Maurice Morris - SEA - Shaun Alexander will miss 2-4 weeks with a broken leg. His loss is Morris’ gain. Morris has averaged 4.5 ypc for his career, but his numbers have been declining each year since 2003. But as the starting running back for the Seahawks, he has a lot of value going forward in the games he starts.

RB Willie Parker - PIT - The passing game continues to struggle, but the running game looks very good. Parker continued to carry the load yielding 133 yards and 2 TDs on 31 carries. He has a bye in week 4 and faces the tough San Diego defense in week 5. The time to get him on your roster is before the week 6 games.

RB Clinton Portis - WAS - He looked very good before tweaking his shoulder again on a tackle. He won’t always face a defense as soft as the Texans, but he can hopefully play enough to warrant solid value. TJ Duckett has yet to spell Portis so it’s quite possible Portis will retain goal line duties going forward. He had 164 combined yards and 2 TDs on only 18 touches.

RB Michael Robinson - SF - The rookie played well in relief of Frank Gore gaining 29 yards and 2 TDs on just 5 carries. His playing time will depend on the extent of Gore’s injury.

RB Brian Westbrook - PHI - Despite always on the injury report, Westbrook’s big play ability is well documented. He can score from anywhere on the field and has the ability to completely take over a contest. He finished the day with 164 combined yards and 3 TDs on just 12 touches. That defines efficiency.

RB Jason Wright - CLE - He started in place of the injured Droughns. He did not do much (15 carries for 31 yards), but was facing a tough Baltimore defense. At least for the moment, it appears as though Wright has passed rookie Jerome Harrison on the depth chart.

WR Bernard Berrian - CHI - Berrian continues to be a huge part of the Chicago offense. He has cemented himself as the WR2 and should continue to produce solid numbers all season long.

WR Deion Branch - SEA - Branch finally got on the field for Seattle and saw three passes his way and was given a carry. Once he gets fully acclimated to the Seahawks’ system, Branch will be their WR2.

WR Reggie Brown - PHI - Brown picked up the slack for the injured Donte Stallworth and posted a five-catch, 106-yard effort on a team-high 11 targets. If Stallworth continues to suffer with the hamstring, Brown could be an excellent fantasy option.

WR Mark Clayton - BAL - Steve McNair began Sunday’s game by throwing his first four passes in the direction of Clayton. The youngster has become an important part of the Ravens passing game and will only improve as the season unfolds.

WR Laveranues Coles - NYJ - Coles teased us all week as he failed to practice fully leading up to Sunday's game. He still came through with ten catches for 78 yards. While that isn't a huge day, it shows that he is easily the top receiver on the roster. He will continue in that role all season.

WR Braylon Edwards - CLE - Edwards appears to be as explosive as ever and definitely provides the Browns with quick-strike ability. His 116-yard (with a TD) showing against the excellent Ravens defense was particularly impressive. With the ground game struggling, Cleveland will rely heavily upon Edwards and the passing attack.

WR Lee Evans - BUF - Evans is easily J.P. Losman’s most reliable receiver and has been targeted 23 times already this season., Evans hauled in eight balls for 107 yards against a good Jets defense and should have many more similar games this season.

WR Doug Gabriel - NE - It took Gabriel a couple of weeks to get comfortable in the Patriots’ offense, but once active, he instantly became a top option of Tom Brady. He led all New England WRs with 11 targets and caught six balls for 65 yards and the only Patriot TD of the game. He should be able to improve as the season wears on.

WR Chris Henry - CIN - While we’re always worried about Henry pulling another off-the-field stunt, he is getting the job done between the lines. The surprising thing about Henry is his performance with T.J. Houshmandzadeh back in the lineup. Against the Steelers, it was Henry and Houshmandzadeh getting all of the action (19 combined targets) while Chad Johnson was an afterthought (two targets). Obviously, Henry won’t move Johnson aside, but the week three production points out that Henry is a big part of this offense.

WR Torry Holt - STL - Holt was all over the place against the Cardinals and caught St. Louis’ only TD. The thing we like best was HC Scott Linehan saying the team used a few “Greatest Show On Turf” plays from the Mike Martz era.

WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh - CIN - Houshmandzadeh is finally healthy again, and he put up great numbers in his first action of the season. He led the team with ten targets, nine catches, 94 yards, and a pair of TDs (matched by Chris Henry). There is no reason to believe that a healthy Houshmandzadeh will fail to produce.

WR Darrell Jackson - SEA - On a roster suddenly stocked with WR talent, Jackson continues to be the most prominent receiver in Seattle. Despite missing all preseason recovering from injury, Jackson is on pace for a 90-catch, 1232-yard, and 16-TD season. He should see even more looks with Shaun Alexander out for a while.

WR Greg Jennings - GB - Jennings had a TD for the second straight week against the Lions and looks like he will continue as the team’s WR2. There is some concern that Koren Robinson will eat into Jennings’ numbers, but if the young WR keeps showing big-play ability (he had a 75-yard score in week three), Robinson will be a reserve at best.

WR Andre Johnson - HOU - This past offseason, there were a few whispers regarding Johnson being the second most talented WR in Houston (behind newly acquired Eric Moulds). After three weeks, it is obvious that the whispers did not originate from HC Gary Kubiak or QB David Carr as Johnson is by far the most popular WR in the offense. Houston still doesn’t score enough points to make him an elite fantasy WR, but he is still an excellent option.

WR Derrick Mason - BAL - It seems as if Mason and Steve McNair have picked up where they left off while teammates in Tennessee. Mason continues to catch a nice number of balls and should see a little lighter coverage with the emergence of Mark Clayton.

WR Muhsin Muhammad - CHI - It is apparent that the Bears passing game is for real this season. Muhammad is leading the team in targets with 27 and posted nine catches for 118 yards against a solid Vikings defense. The TDs might be a little light for Muhammad, but he already has a pair of 100-yard games.

WR Roscoe Parrish - BUF - The Bills are desperate for someone to fill the void at WR2. Against the Jets, Parrish showed he might be able to handle the role. While J.P. Losman gave Parrish only four targets, the WR caught all of them for 104 yards including a game-opening 51-yard TD.

WR Steve Smith - CAR - He’s baaaaaack. Smith finally was able to get back to near 100% health wise, and he exploded for seven catches and 112 yards on 14 targets. He was easily the biggest cog in the Panthers passing game and will continue to be so as long as he has two healthy legs.

WR Javon Walker - DEN - Walker only saw six targets against the Patriots, but he caught three of them for 130 yards and two nice TDs. That is the definition of big-play ability. He might have a few more games with light numbers, but he can explode against anyone.

WR Wes Welker - MIA - Welker isn’t getting a huge upgrade, but he’s someone you should be aware of (especially in PPR leagues). Surprisingly, he is the second most targeted player in Miami and seems to have both surpassed Marty Booker in the offense and made Derek Hagan an afterthought. While the entire Dolphins offense is struggling, Welker is a guy that should be good for a few catches every week, and he is likely sitting on your waiver wire.

WR Roy Williams - DET - While the Lions as a whole are struggling to find consistency, Williams in particular is shining. He is 11th among all WRs in targets and has a nice remaining schedule. He had his first TD and his first 100-yard day against the Packers, but there should be several more on the way.

TE Eric Johnson - SF - Starting TE Vernon Davis has a fracture in his leg and will miss four weeks. In place of the rookie, Johnson had eight targets and caught seven balls for 87 yards and a TD. The knock on Johnson has been his propensity for injury, but he has always been able to catch the ball. If you are in need of a TE, Johnson should have a very good October.

TE Kellen Winslow Jr - CLE - While WR Braylon Edwards provides the explosiveness, Winslow seems to have settled in as Charlie Frye’s security blanket. The TE already has 19 catches, almost 200 yards and a TD on 24 targets this season. Those numbers should hold steady as Cleveland has shown no ability to run the ball.

PK Robbie Gould - CHI - Gould continued his attempt to be “this year’s Neil Rackers” with another perfect kicking day against the Vikings. Gould added four more FGs and a PAT and now has 37 points on the season (still tops in the league).

PK John Kasay - CAR - The return of Steve Smith gave a big boost to Kasay’s scoring potential, and he was perfect in week three with four FGs (three from 49+ yards away) and a pair of PATs. As long as the Smith stays upright, Kasay should continue to have big scoring days.

PK Matt Stover - BAL - Stover continued to score well as he kicked three more FGs against the Browns. It was his third straight game with at least nine points, and he even showed some rare distance with a 52-yard boot near the end of the game.

PK Jeff Wilkins - STL - From a fantasy standpoint, the good thing about the Rams’ offense is they seem to be able to move the ball fairly well but can’t finish drives with consistency. Wilkins has already attempts 13 FGs but only two PATs. His 35 points is second only to Robbie Gould.

TD Denver Broncos - DEN - While the sack and forced turnover numbers are lacking (four and two respectively), Denver is a solid option in leagues that award fantasy points for yards and points allowed.

TD Jacksonville Jaguars - JAX - After very nice efforts against Dallas and Pittsburgh, the Jaguars faced a real test in week three against the Colts. While they didn’t produce great sack and turnover numbers, Jacksonville was able to control the high-powered Indianapolis attack. This is a good unit that should be able to consume weaker opponents on the schedule.

TD Seattle Seahawks - SEA - While it’s unusual to upgrade a defense after they give up 30 points, the final score was very misleading. The Seattle defense certainly took control against the Giants’ offense (three INTs, a fumble recovery, a sack and three points allowed through three quarters). New York only began moving the ball when Seattle dialed the intensity down a bit.

Downgrades

QB Kerry Collins - TEN - He actually was OK this Sunday but beyond awful the two weeks prior. Vince Young will be starting very soon.

QB Daunte Culpepper - MIA - We expected a lot more against a soft Titans’ defense. Culpepper continues to make bad throws. He gets another soft game at Houston in week 4, but we are not sure we can recommend starting him until he plays better.

QB Byron Leftwich - JAX - He struggled badly in this contest with a limited Matt Jones. This offense is still a work in progress.

QB Ben Roethlisberger - PIT - He is slow in his reads and delivery. You have to wonder if the accident, hospital stays as thrown his game completely off. He just does not look anything like the QB that played in the Super Bowl last season. He will likely improve as the season progresses, but is a risky start right now. For the season, Big Ben has 0 TDs and 5 INTs.

QB Chris Simms - TB - We expect we have seen the last of him for this season after requiring surgery to remove his spleen. There will be no need to rush him back as this Tampa Bay team isn’t going to make it to the post-season.

QB Kurt Warner - ARI - His fumbles and interceptions had a huge role in losing this week’s game. His benching could happen as early as this week. Rookie Matt Leinart would start if Warner gets benched.

RB Shaun Alexander - SEA - He is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a broken bone in his foot. This comes after three bad performances running behind an offensive line that isn’t close to the one Seattle had in 2005. Guard Hutchinson went to Minnesota and Walter Jones doesn’t look nearly as good without Hutchinson. Because this team is 3-0 and likely a playoff contender, they may not hurry Shaun back as they will need him to be 100% for the playoffs. Grab Maurice Morris if you can.

RB Mike Anderson - BAL - He has become the fullback only in this offense. He will get a few carries here and there, but the primary ball-carriers will be Jamal Lewis and Musa Smith.

RB Mike Bell - DEN - He had only 4 carries while Tatum ran wild. Bell is now part of the return game too. It looks like Shanahan is going to try Tatum as the full-time starter for awhile.

RB Cedric Benson - CHI - This guy is soft. End of story. I hate his game and don’t think he will ever be any good. Thomas Jones has not been great this year, but he has been levels above Benson’s production. Cedric did not get a single carry this week. For the year he has 59 yards on 21 carries.

RB Derrick Blaylock - NYJ - Now option #3 in New York. And option #1 is not even a start as the Jets have had no running game all year. Blaylock has no value even in deep leagues.

RB Chris Brown - TEN - He continues to battle turf toe. We expect the team to interchange Travis Henry, LenDale White and Chris Brown going forward. No Titans’ backs look to have value this year.

RB Stephen Davis - STL - Talk about a signing that has yielded no production. Davis is still not in game-shape. He might make an impact later in the year on the goal line, but for now isn’t worth a roster spot.

RB Corey Dillon - NE - Besides competition to deal with, he now has an injury to shake off. If rookie Laurence Maroney gets a full-start next week, he could end up being the starting RB the rest of the way. We think Maroney is that talented.

RB Reuben Droughns - CLE - His offensive line is bad and now he is hurt. He was inactive in week 3.

RB T.J. Duckett - WAS - How hard is it to learn the goal line package? The fact that the Redskins’ continue not to use him (when they needed him to spell Portis) speaks volumes of Duckett's value going forward.

RB Frank Gore - SF - He left the game with an abdominal strain only to watch as his backup made a case for more playing time. We still expect Gore to be a main cog in this offense if healthy, but as the losses mount expect to see more of Michael Robinson as well.

RB Jerome Harrison - CLE - With Droughns hurt, the team went with Jason Wright this Sunday. Harrison may be the future, but that future does not look like it begins any time soon.

RB Wali Lundy - HOU - He is now behind both Ron Dayne and Samkon Gado for carries. His day to shine has come and past.

RB Cadillac Williams - TB - His offensive line has been awful and now he loses his starting QB. Rumors surround his “back spasms” that he could have herniated disks. There are too many factors for us to like Carnell going forward. This is going to be a rough season for him.

RB DeAngelo Williams - CAR - We still love this kids’ talent. He is going to be special in this league. But he slipped a bit after a great week 2. And with HC Fox’s commitment to veterans, he may need to wait for an injury to overtake DeShaun Foster this season.

WR Corey Bradford - DET - In the preseason, Bradford had supposedly assumed the WR2 role in a Mike Martz offense. That was exciting. Of course it is not apparent that Bradford has been supplanted by Mike Furrey. It is also apparent that Mike Martz needs better players before the Lions’ version of a Mike Martz offense is exciting for fantasy players.

WR Mark Bradley - CHI - A big question this offseason centered around which WR would be able to assume the WR2 role in Chicago. After three weeks, it’s obvious that Bernard Berrian is the answer. If Berrian and Muhsin Muhammad are healthy, Bradley has no value. Even if a starter goes down, we aren’t sure Bradley is capable of excelling.

WR Plaxico Burress - NYG - If you are a WR and your team is behind by 32 at the half, you should at least expect to see lots of passes your way in the second half. Of course, if you’re Plaxico Burress, you’ll watch the second half after being benched by your head coach.

WR Chris Chambers - MIA - We’re almost officially worried (they get one more chance against the Texans) about the Miami aerial attack. We were willing to overlook them struggling against the Steelers and Bills, but when you can’t get it going against the Titans something is very much amiss. To make matters worse, Chambers is catching less than half of his targets (13 receptions on 29 looks) and has only one TD this year.

WR Michael Clayton - TB - Clayton and the Buccaneers offense were struggling with Chris Simms behind the helm. With the veteran gone, we sure don’t like Clayton catching passes from the rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski.

WR Kevin Curtis - STL - Curtis had a single pass thrown his way in week three. That marks the second game where he has seen only one ball in his direction. Curtis was a popular sleeper pick this preseason, but it’s obvious he will not wake up as long as Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce are able to play.

WR Joey Galloway - TB - Something was off about the Buccaneers offense through the first three weeks of the season, but we still thought they could pull together. With Chris Simms missing significant action, we simply can not get behind Galloway right now.

WR Chad Jackson - NE - Jackson spent another game on the sidelines and watched Doug Gabriel have a solid debut as a Patriot. It’s apparent that Gabriel will keep Jackson on the bench this season.

WR Matt Jones - JAX - The knock on Matt Jones has always been nagging injuries. Even while at Arkansas, Jones seemed prone to minor but frequent ailments. After opening the season with a couple of solid outings, Jones missed week three with bad groin. This injury can be particularly tough to beat, so we’re worried a bit about Jones’ ability to return soon at full strength.

WR Santana Moss - WAS - Moss simply isn’t getting enough targets to be considered an elite fantasy WR. Through three games, Moss has seen only 16 passes thrown his way. By way of comparison, Torry Holt, Marvin Harrison, Laveranues Coles, Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Donald Driver each have at least 30. Moss even has fewer looks like guys like Wes Welker (19 targets), Drew Carter (21), Troy Brown (19), and Dennis Northcutt (18). To drive the point home, consider that Steve Smith saw 14 passes in week three alone. The opportunities simply aren’t there for Moss.

WR Eric Moulds - HOU - Moulds is seeing an average of five targets per game this season. In some offenses (Colts, Seahawks, Bengals, etc.), that might be OK. However, when you’re a WR with the Houston Texans, five balls in your area will not make you a viable fantasy threat. Moulds shouldn’t see your starting lineup until his role in the offense expands.

WR Marcus Robinson - MIN - Where does Robinson fit in with the Vikings offense? Well, in week three he was a healthy inactive while Billy McMullen did see the field. Any other questions?

WR Donte Stallworth - PHI - This is the Donte Stallworth we all know and love to hate. He was huge for two weeks, but tweaked a hamstring in the middle of last week. Despite being listed as probable and HC Andy Reid saying he “should be fine for the game”, Stallworth sat out the week three contest.

WR Hines Ward - PIT - The Pittsburgh passing game just isn’t right this season. Hines has been targeted an impressive 26 times, but he has only nine catches for 99 yards and a TD. Until things turn around for the Steelers aerial attack, Ward looks like nothing more than a situational starter.

WR Mike Williams - DET - Please don’t tell us you are still holding on to Mike Williams. While he did get on the field this week, he is still worthless.

WR Reggie Williams - JAX - With Matt Jones ailing, the opportunity was ripe for Williams to put up excellent numbers against a division rival. He caught two balls for eight yards. That’s just terrible.

TE Desmond Clark - CHI - Clark has played well this season, but we’re worried about the foot injury. There has been no report on the severity of his injury, but it just seems likely that Clark will have a few more bumps and bruises along the course of the season. Also, with Bernard Berrian so involved in the offense, there simply isn’t enough action to keep Clark among the elite fantasy TEs. He needed a bump down to a more realistic level.

TE Chris Cooley - WAS - It’s beginning to look like Cooley is one of those one-year wonders that ends up biting people in year N+1. He is currently on pace for only 37 catches and just over 200 yards. That’s a horrible pace.

TE Vernon Davis - SF - Davis will miss the next four week with a fracture in his leg. Rookie TEs are already facing a steep learning curve, so this missed time could hurt him even longer as he tries to figure out the pro game. He is obviously worth keeping in a dynasty league, but in a redraft he’s borderline.

TE Daniel Graham - NE - The 2006 version of the Patriots’ passing game is a notch below what we’ve seen in the past. In prior seasons, the TE2 could be a viable spot starter, but Graham simply does not see the amount of looks necessary to make him a quality fantasy TE.

TE Randy McMichael - MIA - McMichael gets the downgrade for a couple of reasons. First, Wes Welker is more involved in this offense than is McMichael (19 targets to 13 so far this season). That’s right – Wes Welker. Second, and most important, the Dolphins aren’t a good offense right now, and the passing game has been anemic (one TD pass in three games).

TE Leonard Pope - ARI - Pope is simply not getting the looks. Through three games, the rookie has a mere two targets. Pope has long-term potential, but the TE position is simply too involved for him to excel this season.

TE Jeb Putzier - HOU - Putzier is another TE that isn’t getting the looks (only eight targets through three games). Even worse, he’s getting no love in the redzone (one target so far this season. To top off the misery, David Carr threw two passes to TEs in week three – one to Owen Daniels and one to Mark Bruener.

TE Tony Scheffler - DEN - In the preseason, Scheffler was considered a decent sleeper, but he has been almost nonexistent so far this year. After three games, he was a single catch for only nine yards.

TE Jeremy Shockey - NYG - Things are close to getting ugly in New York. After getting mauled by Seattle, Shockey stated the obvious that the team was “outplayed and outcoached”. While he essentially spread the blame to everyone in the organization, HC Tom Coughlin is not the type that likes to be lectured by his players. Winning will sooth the Giant’s wounds, but the upcoming schedule (Washington, Atlanta and Dallas) is not loaded with creampuffs.

PK Stephen Gostkowski - NE - Replacing Adam Vinatieri is a tough task, but Gostkowski has still been a disappointment. He is only two for four on FGs this year and ranks 24th among fantasy PKs.

PK Olindo Mare - MIA - The combination of an anemic offense and poor accuracy from Mare make him a poor fantasy kicker.

PK Josh Scobee - JAX - Scobee had an ugly outing against the Colts and missed both FG attempts (from 24 and 49). He is only four of seven this year. The Jaguars don’t give him enough opportunities to be a solid fantasy option.

TD New York Giants - NYG - The Giants have been downright horrible on defense this year. If your league deducts fantasy points for yards and points allowed, then this group has no business being on your roster. The most surprising stat is the woeful sack total – two.

TD New England Patriots - NE - This is a very uninspiring fantasy unit. They have only seven sacks (tied for 11th in the league) and have forced only a single turnover (last in the NFL).
