 Andy Hicks's Thoughts
Terry Glenn enjoyed his reunion with Drew Bledsoe, recording a personal high in fantasy points last season and he finished the season ranked as a WR1 in 12-team leagues for the first time in his 10-year career. Glenn also led the league in yards per catch, with a very impressive 18.3 average, again a personal best. Additionally he also posted a career-high touchdown total, with seven for the year.
Glenn is highly valued by the Cowboys and received a five-year extension in March. His health has never been better, playing in all 16 games in two of the last three seasons and Dallas has improved in many areas since the last play of 2005. The biggest addition would have to be fellow WR, Terrell Owens. With the departure of Keyshawn Johnson, Owens adds more potency to the receiving game and with the solid pass catching backs in Julius Jones and Marion Barber III, Pro Bowl Tight End Jason Witten and a healthy Patrick Crayton as an up and coming WR3 there may not be enough balls to keep everyone happy.
The addition of Terrell Owens could be seen as a positive or a negative for Terry Glenn owners. The negative side sees Owens dominating and there being scraps for the other receivers. The positive for Glenn is the flammable personal nature of Terrell Owens. If Owens were to cross paths with Bill Parcells, Glenn walks into the No.1 role and the stats to boot. Either way If Glenn sees single coverage he could embarrass plenty of defensive backs in the league.
Those in the position to play Terry Glenn last year will know that Glenn was inconsistent. He recorded almost half his yardage in four games and most of his TDs in three games. There were 10 games which had less than 70 yards receiving and 11 games with less than five catches. That was his best year.
Positives
- Knows Drew Bledsoe’s game better than anyone
- Posted career highs, or near career highs in most major categories
- Stands to see less coverage and has the game to dominate defensive backs one on one
Negatives
- Terrell Owens will dominate the Dallas receiving game
- Has missed an average of 4 games per year in his 10 years in the league
- Given the volatility of players, coaches and owners at the club, things could get ugly, especially with a very tough schedule
Final Thoughts
Terry Glenn is a receiver who will divide those forecasting him for the 2006 season. On the one hand he’s never played better, is likely to see single coverage on most plays and has a fantastic on field rapport with Drew Bledsoe.
On the other hand comes the Terrell Owens freak show. Once Jerry Rice faded from San Francisco, the receiver opposite Owens has always struggled to put up strong fantasy numbers. Glenn should see fewer targets than last year and with his yards per catch expected to drop so will Terry Glenn’s value. He should still have good games, but as with last year will have lots of games that do little for a fantasy owner.

I really like the addition of Terell Owens.......more so for Terry Glenn than any other player on the Dallas Cowboys. Last year, Terry Glenn was basically uncoverable 1 on 1 vs. defenders and with Terell Owens on the field, defenses will have to attempt to do what they couldn't do last year.
Keys Myath:
I'm wary of the career year last year, but I'm excited about what the TO addition could do. Still, I have to bump him down. But those projecting him at 3 TDs and 800 yards are a little low. In a good situation (like Dallas and NE), he's always produced.
SSOG:
Terry Glenn hasn't at any point in the past 5 seasons had both 50+ targets *AND* a 54% or better catch percentage. It just hasn't happened. So let's assume he keeps that 52% catch% that he's been averaging. To hit 60 receptions, he would need 115 targets. Does anyone really think he's getting 115 targets in an offense that also features Terrell Owens and Jason Witten? Last season, Keyshawn got 115, Glenn got 109, and Witten got 81. I see Owens with more than 115 targets, and expect Witten's numbers to go up a little bit, too, which means I really don't expect Glenn to put up 60 receptions this season.
