Quarterback
Brooks is not expected to play this coming week as he continues to rehab his sore right shoulder (rotator cuff injury).
According to reports, Culpepper apparently told former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon, a CBS Analyst, that his knee is not 100% yet. Coach Saban commented "He still doesn't have total rehabilitation to get to where he was before. Nobody knows if he will get back to that point, but there's certainly the possibility that he will. It usually takes more than a year."
Green continues to recover from his serious concussion, but is not expected back in the lineup soon.
Jackson was inactive on Sunday due to his injured knee after being listed as doubtful on Friday's injury report.
Simms underwent an emergency spleenectomy (his spleen was damaged and had to be removed) after the game on Sunday. No timetable has been set for his return at this early stage in his recovery, but it is certain that he won't play again for a long stretch during 2006 - 6 weeks is the minimum recovery time for such a surgical procedure. WR Michael Clayton commented "He was in the huddle at times muffling over his words and taking deep breaths in between calling plays because he couldn't talk. He was definitely dazed a little bit." On Monday Coach Gruden visited Simms and reported to the media afterwards that Simms was in good spirits and stated "He's gonna be okay." Tampa's new starter is rookie Bruce Gradkowski. Stated Gruden "That's one of the reasons we gave him extensive playing time in the preseason. I thought he did some very good things. He'll get a lot of work this week and we'll see what happens. We have a great schedule ahead of ourselves, 13 games to go. This is going to be a tremendous challenge indeed. I believe he's a fine quarterback and he'll rise to the challenge."
Sorgi did not play on Sunday after being listed as probable with a right shoulder injury - Peyton Manning's backups don't see much time even when 100% healthy.
The East Valley Tribune's Darren Urban reported on Monday that Kurt Warners' hand is "hurting", but neither Warner nor coach Green have mentioned a hand injury. There was also a story in the East Valley Tribune on August 1st that called attention to Warners' history of hand and thumb problems - at this point, though, this report looks more like speculation/explanation for Warners' fumblitis than established fact.
