Quarterback
QB Philip Rivers was out of the protective boot he has been wearing after suffering a sprained foot in the season finale as of last Thursday. However, he didn’t participate in the Thursday workout - he's continuing to rehab the sore foot. An MRI done on the foot last week showed no serious damage to the tissues or bones.
Running Back
left Saturday's game after aggravating his foot that kept him out for several games this year. He limped to the sidelines. But he was right back in the game two plays later. Both Alexander and coach Mike Holmgren downplayed the issue and said it wasn't serious.
Moats was inactive on Sunday despite being listed as probable on Friday (ankle injury).
TE Mark Campbell (knee), WR Terrance Copper (foot) and RB Aaron Stecker (hamstring) should all be back at practice soon, said HC Sean Payton last week. The team began practicing on this past Thursday.
suffered from an upset stomach and cramping in Sunday's game but did not let it affect his play on the field.
Wide Receiver
Childress was unable to play this week due to his sore ankle. He was listed as questionable on Friday.
TE Mark Campbell (knee), WR Terrance Copper (foot) and RB Aaron Stecker (hamstring) should all be back at practice soon, said HC Sean Payton last week.
Hackett, who battled through a hip injury to play on Saturday, suffered a sprained right ankle during the game. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.
WR Joe Horn returned to practice last week, with his partially torn groin nearly healed after missing the last four weeks. He labeled himself about 80 to 85 percent healthy Thursday, saying he was excited, optimistic and feeling better than he has in weeks. Even if that wasn't the case, Horn insisted he would make his way onto the field next weekend. The Saints' players got back to work last Thursday after a three-day break.
Jackson started but did not catch a pass during the game on Saturday and did not play in the second half because of his toe injury. "I was going to push through it a little bit; I've been hurt before," Jackson said. "It just came down to the toughness factor. The pain finally kicked in, and I needed to be smart about it and shut it down." Jackson said he hopes to be able to play in this week's game.
Owens will have off-season surgery to repair a torn tendon on the tip of his right index finger. He said he hopes to return in May for the first minicamp. Owens also said he expects to return to the Cowboys in 2007. "I see no reason not to," Owens said. "I'm going to work my butt off in the off-season and get this hand squared away. I'll get a couple of doctors' opinions and go from there. I definitely should be ready for minicamp."
Proehl was inactive for the wild card round, as expected (hamstring, out on Friday).
Tight End
TE Mark Campbell (knee), WR Terrance Copper (foot) and RB Aaron Stecker (hamstring) should all be back at practice soon, HC Sean Payton reported last week.
A non-injury related note that could impact the depth chart for San Diego at TE this week: TE Ryan Krause was arrested early yesterday on suspicion of driving under the influence, San Diego police said. Krause, 25, was booked into County Jail after he was arrested about 2 a.m. He was released at 9 a.m. on bail, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Kicker
Offensive Line
G Ryan Lilja missed another game this week due to his bum knee. He was listed as questionable on Friday.
G Keydrick Vincent (groin) returned to practice yesterday after missing the final regular-season game. Vincent said he would be able to start next weekend. OT Jonathan Ogden didn't practice Saturday, but he stated afterwards "I'm getting better," said Ogden, "We've got another week, so I've got plenty of time." Asked if he would play next weekend, Ogden replied, "Yep."
G Floyd Womack suited up but did not play during the wild card round - he was listed as questionable due to his sore groin on Friday.
Defensive Line
Linebacker
Roper was inactive on Sunday despite being listed as probable on Friday (knee).
Defensive Back
Harrison's injured knee kept him sidelined on Sunday, as expected (listed as out on Friday).
James, who has struggled with his injured calf for several weeks, was inactive on Sunday despite being listed as probable on Friday.
Sanders finally returned to the lineup for the first time in five games and just the third time in nearly four months (he's been fighting a sore right knee almost all year).
"It's been a long road for me, just taking it day by day," said Sanders. "But now I'm looking forward to it. I'm a lot stronger and I feel a lot more confident in myself that I can play and be Bob Sanders...I felt excellent. It was a good feeling to be back around my teammates. The energy was crazy."
Sheppard suffered a dislocated right elbow during the 4th quarter in yesterday's 23-20 playoff win over the Giants. He didn't return to action and will miss this week's game. "It's a little tricky," coach Andy Reid said Monday. "This week for sure he won't be back. We'll see down the road, if there is a down the road."
"I was trying to make a tackle and I just felt somebody smash into it," Sheppard said. "It popped out, and they had to put it back on the field...It's sore, but I can move it, and that is a plus. I don't know if I will be able to play, but I will do everything I can to get ready." Sheppards' likely replacement would be Roderick Hood, who stepped into the lineup late on Sunday after Sheppards' injury.
Trufant was unable to play during the wild card round due to his high ankle sprain (he was listed as doubtful on Friday).
