Carolina at Tampa Bay
Tome of Possession: Carolina 34:23, Tampa Bay 25:37
Total Plays: Carolina 67, Tampa Bay 51
The Carolina Panthers defense did an about face in week three, holding the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers to just 64 yards on the ground (2.6 average) after allowing
392 yards combined over the first two weeks of the season. Tampa, last years
6th ranked run defense, has now allowed over 100 yards rushing in each of the
first three games (they held the Panthers to <100 in both games a year ago).
Carolina has played very well against Chris Simms, allowing just 278 passing
yards over the last two games. The Bucs have had a very tough time controlling
the clock this year with 75:39 Time of Possession in three games. Tampa Bay
is now 0-3 for the 10th time in franchise history. They have crawled out of
this hole once before, making the playoffs with a 5-4 record in the strike shortened
1982 season, but overall, since the playoff format was changed in 1990, only
three teams have started 0-3 and continued on to make the postseason.
In the first two weeks, LB Adam Seward (0 tackles, QH) replaced Dan Morgan
(concussion- inactive) for the Panthers at MLB. This week, Chris Draft started
in the middle while Seward started on the weakside.
- CAR CB Ken Lucas (3 tackles, 2 solo) had been questionable with a neck injury,
but he started.
- CAR SS Shaun Williams, inactive with a foot injury, was replaced in the
starting lineup by Colin Branch (4 tackles, 1 solo).
- TB DTs Chris Hovan (ankle) and Anthony McFarland (hip) were both listed
as questionable but they both started (each picking up just one assist).
- TB SLB Ryan Nece (knee) and CB Brian Kelly (toe) were both inactive. Regular
MLB Shelton Quarles slid outside to replace Nece, allowing Barrett Ruud to
come in at MLB, while Juran Bolden (4 tackles, 3 solo) replaced Kelly as a
starting cornerback.
- TB DE Simeon Rice had been questionable with a knee injury, but he started.
The Good
- TB CB Ronde Barber: 12 solo tackles, PD. 28 solo in three games
- TB WLB Derrick Brooks: 11 tackles (9 solo), PD. 24 solos in three games
- TB DE Simeon Rice: 4 tackles (3 solo), sack, 2 FF. Rice was shut out in
both 2005 games. He now ranks second among active players with 120 career
sacks, behind Michael Strahan's 129.5
- TB LB Shelton Quarles: 8 tackles (5 solo), sack, QH, PD, FF. Quarles performs
well against Carolina, having posted 23 tackles (17) with a FF in two games
last year
- TB LB Barrett Ruud: 8 solo tackles
- TB SS Jermaine Phillips: 7 solo tackles, PD. 24 solos in three games
- CAR DE Julius Peppers: 7 tackles (5 solo), sack, QH. Peppers has three sacks
in his last two games v. TB
- CAR CB Chris Gamble: 4 solo tackles, INT, 2 PD. With 14 interceptions, Gamble
is tied with Doug Evans for #3 in Carolina's team history. He led the league
last year with 6 interceptions on the road.
The Bad
- CAR DE Mike Rucker: Rucker, looking for his first sack of 2006, has picked
up just one in his last eight regular season games. Prior to this game, he
had posted three sacks in the past two versus Tampa Bay.
- CAR LB Adam Seward: Zero tackles, QH
- CAR DT Kris Jenkins: Zero tackles, QH
- CAR FS Mike Minter: 2 tackles (1 solo)
Chicago at Minnesota
Tome of Possession: Minnesota 31:39, Chicago 28:21
Total Plays: Chicago 63, Minnesota 56
The Chicago Bears knew that they couldn't maintain the pace that they had set
through two weeks, allowing just 7 points and 512 total yards (363 passing,
149 rushing), but when all was said and done on Sunday their performance wasn't
half bad: 16 points allowed, 286 total yards (189 passing, 97 rushing). The
main thing is that they're heading home with the victory, 3-0 for the first
time since 1991. The home team had won eight straight in the NFC North battle
with Chicago last wining in the Metrodome in 2001. What a difference a year
makes. In their two meetings a year ago, Minnesota held the Bears to under 100
passing yards in each. On Sunday, Rex Grossman threw for over 250 yards for
the third straight game.
Danieal Manning (4 solo tackles), a rookie 2nd round pick, has taken over the
starting free-safety job in Chicago from Chris Harris (inactive).
With MIN DE Erasmus James done for the year (knee-IR), Darrion Scott (1 solo
tackle, sack, QH) has entered the starting lineup at left defensive end, moving
Kenechi Udeze (2 tackles, 1 solo) to right end.
Rookie Cedric Griffin (2 solo tackles) started at cornerback for Minnesota
in place of Fred Smoot (5 solo tackles). Smoot wasn't on the injury report.
The Good
- MIN CB Antoine Winfield: 10 solo tackles, INT, PD, TD
- CHI DT Tommie Harris: 2 tackles (1 solo), sack, QH. Has picked up at least
one sack in back to back games
The Bad
- CHI LB Brian Urlacher: 10 tackles (5 solo). Time for concern with just 16
solo tackles in three games. He had come into the game with 6 career sacks
versus Minnesota, the most against any club (also has 6 versus Detroit). Urlacher
needs four sacks to pass Otis Wilson for the Bears all-time lead among linebackers.
- CHI CB Charles Tillman: 5 tackles (4 solo). Not bad production for a cornerback,
but Tillman has had a lot of success against Minnesota (23 solo tackles and
2 INT in the previous three games)
- MIN DT Kevin Williams: 1 assist. During his last five against Chicago, Williams
had picked up a sack in each game, totaling 20 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks and
2 FR
- MIN DE Kenechi Udeze: 4 tackles (2 solo) in three games
- MIN LB E.J. Henderson: 1 assist
- MIN FS Darren Sharper: 8 solo tackles in three games
- MIN MLB Napoleon Harris: 3 solo tackles
The Ugly
- CHI LB Jamar Williams (shoulder)
- MIN CB Fred Smoot (concussion)
- MIN S Dwight Smith (dehydration)
- MIN LB Ben Leber (knee)
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh
Tome of Possession: Pittsburgh 33:51, Cincinnati 26:09
Total Plays: Pittsburgh 80, Cincinnati 57
The Cincinnati Bengals, winners in 9 of their last 11 road games, have started
3-0 in consecutive seasons for the first time in franchise history. They have
won 3 of their last 4 in Pittsburgh, a team who's become their most hated rival,
against Bill Cowher, whose 20-9 record v. the Bengals represents his most wins
versus any team. PIT QB Ben Roethlisberger is now 8-2 versus AFC North opponents
with both losses coming against Cincinnati. Even through their struggles, the
Steelers have allowed just 235 rushing yards in three games (3.2 average).
CIN SLB Rashad Jeanty (7 tackles, 2 solo), an undrafted rookie, has taken over
the starting job for David Pollack. Pollack injured his neck in week two and
is done for the year.
CIN SS Kevin Kaesviharn started in place of Dexter Jackson (ankle- inactive).
PIT SS Troy Polamalu was questionable coming in with a shoulder injury, but
he started.
The Good
- CIN SS Kevin Kaesviharn: 8 tackles (7 solo), INT, PD, FF. Kaesviharn started
16 games a year ago fro Cincinnati, picking up 62 solo tackles and three interceptions.
- CIN FS Madieu Williams: 4 solo tackles, INT, 2 PD. Williams shines against
Pittsburgh, recording a career high 10 solo tackles and picking up his first
career sack in two games a year ago.
- CIN WLB Landon Johnson: 9 tackles (8 solo)
- CIN CB Deltha O'Neal: 6 solo tackles, INT, 3 PD. His first pick of 2006,
recorded an interception in 4 of the last 5 games a year ago. His 10 INT led
the league.
- CIN DE Justin Smith: 5 tackles (3 solo), sack, QH, PD. Smith continues to
have success against Pittsburgh, picking up 10 solo tackles and two sacks
in his last three games v. PIT.
- CIN DE Robert Geathers: 4 tackles (2 solo), 2 sacks, 2 QH. He's not a starter,
but he is a legit pass-rusher with his second multi-sack game of the year.
- PIT ILB Larry Foote: 9 tackles (7 solo), sack, FF
- PIT ILB James Farrior: 7 solo tackles
- PIT CB Deshea Townsend: 7 tackles (5 solo), sack, INT, 2 PD, FF
- PIT OLB Clark Haggans: 5 tackles (4 solo), 2 sacks, QH, FF
- PIT DE Aaron Smith: 5 tackles (3 solo), sack, 2 QH, PD. Prior to this game
Smith had recorded just 4 solo tackles in his last six games against Cincinnati
The Bad
- CIN CB Tory James: 5 solo tackles, 1 PD through three games. He's picked
up 13 interceptions over the last two years while averaging over three solo
tackles per game.
- PIT OLB Joey Porter: 1 assist, PD. Porter has picked up just 4 tackles (2
solo) with 0 sacks in his last three games v. CIN
- PIT SS Troy Polamalu: 4 tackles (3 solo). 10 solo tackles in three games
this year
Green Bay at Detroit
Tome of Possession: Green Bay 30:40, Detroit 29:20
Total Plays: Detroit 66, Green Bay 63
Over his career Brett Favre has thrown for 7600 yards v. DET and compiled a
22-9 record against the Lions. His 402 career TD passes put him at #2 all-time
to Dan Marino (420). Green Bay, winners in 10 of their last 12 versus Detroit,
have now given up 84 points in three games (most since 2002, 100). What happened
to the Detroit Lions defense that we saw hold Seattle to three field goals in
week one? The Bears and Packers have posted 65 on Detroit over the last two
weeks, sending them to 0-3 for the first time since '02.
The Lions were without two starters in the secondary on Sunday. SS Kenoy Kennedy
(foot) was inactive, replaced by rookie Daniel Bullocks (6 tackles, 4 solo,
PD), and CB Fernando Bryant (personal issues- inactive) was replaced by Jamar
Fletcher (5 solo tackles, 2 PD, FR). LB Alex Lewis (knee) was also inactive.
The Lions opened the game in a strong nickel with S Jon McGraw starting in
place of a middle linebacker. Paris Lenon (4 solo tackles, FR) began the game
at SLB.
The Good
- GB SS Marquand Manuel: 7 tackles (2 solo), INT, PD, TD
- GB WLB A.J. Hawk: 8 tackles (5 solo), sack, QH. Highly touted rookie records
his first sack. Back-to-back games with 5 or more solo tackles.
- GB FS Nick Collins: 7 tackles (6 solo), 3 PD. Five or more solo tackles
in all three games.
- GB SLB Brady Poppinga: 7 tackles (6 solo)
- GB DT Corey Williams: 3 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 3 QH

total in three games
- GB DE Aaron Kampman: 2 tackles (1 solo), QH
- GB DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila: 2 tackles (1 solo). KGB has recorded just one
sack in eight career games v. DET
- GB CBs Al Harris and Charles Woodson: combined for 3 solo tackles
- DET WLB Ernie Sims: 9 tackles (3 solo), PD
The Ugly
- GB DT Ryan Pickett (ankle)
- DET LB Paris Lenon (neck)
Jacksonville at Indianapolis
Tome of Possession: Jacksonville 39:24, Indianapolis 20:36
Total Plays: Jacksonville 69, Indianapolis 53
When a team holds onto the ball the way Jacksonville did on Sunday, it's rare
that you see them come out with a loss. Not only did they almost double the
Colts in TOP, they outrushed Indy 191-63. Dominating the first half while holding
onto the ball for over 24 minutes, the Jags could only manage a 7-7 tie going
into halftime. By then you knew that the 3-time defending division champs would
adjust and be tough to beat. Indianapolis has now won 11 straight against AFC
South rivals and four of the last five against Jacksonville. Each of the past
six JAC-IND games have been decided by seven or fewer points. On the bright
side, the Jaguars defense is for real. If their shut out of the defending Super
Bowl Champs on Monday night wasn't enough (4th shut out in franchise history),
holding the Peyton Manning-led Colts to just 272 total yards (63 rushing) proves
that they are here to stay.
There were a lot of players listed on the injury report as questionable between
these two teams, but the only regular starter who missed the game was IND FS
Bob Sanders (shoulder- inactive). Antoine Bethea, who started weeks one and
two in place of SS Mike Doss, started for Sanders.
JAC DE Rob Meier once again started for the Jaguars in Reggie Hayward's spot.
The Good
- IND FS Antoine Bethea: 12 tackles (8 solo), PD
- IND SS Mike Doss; 9 tackles (7 solo), INT, 2 PD
- IND CB Marlin Jackson: 7 solo tackles
- IND MLB Gary Brackett: 10 tackles (7 solo)
- IND WLB Cato June: 10 tackles (7 solo). 22 solos in last three v. JAC
- IND DT Raheem Brock: 2 solo tackles, sack, 2 QH. Brock has picked up four
sacks over the last four games
- JAC MLB Mike Peterson: 8 tackles (6 solo). 25 solos tackles, INT, PD in
last three v. IND
- JAC CB Rashean Mathis: 4 tackles (3 solo), 2 PD. Mathis didn't pick off
a pass this week, as he had done for three straight, but his interception
v. PIT on Monday night gave him 15 career (JAC franchise record, tied with
Aaron Beasley)
The Bad
- JAC DE Rob Meier: 2 tackles (1 solo) in two starts.
- IND DE Dwight Freeney: 0 tackles, QH. Freeney has been shut out in three
straight games against Jacksonville
- IND CBs Nick Harper and Jason David: Combined for 6 tackles (3 solo) in
this stat-fest
- JAC SLB Nick Greisen: 0 tackles, QH. 3 solo tackles in three games
The Ugly
- IND CB Nick Harper (groin)
- JAC backup LB Pat Thomas has been placed on the IR with a hamstring injury.
New York Jets at Buffalo
Tome of Possession: Buffalo 33:13, New York Jets 26:47
Total Plays: Buffalo 73, New York Jets 54
Total yards: Buffalo 475, New York Jets 256, including career high rushing/passing
totals from Willis McGahee and J.P. Losman How did Buffalo lose this game again?
While being outgained, the Jets came through at opportune times (Victor Hobson
32 yard fumble return) and held tough when it mattered most (Buffalo 1/4 redzone
efficiency). The Jets have failed to reach 300 yards of total offense in three
straight games versus the Bills, but they're 2-1.
BUF SLB Takeo Spikes was once again inactive (hamstring), replaced in the starting
lineup by rookie Keith Ellison (8 tackles, 1 solo).
There was a possibility that BUF SS Matt Bowen would return for the game, but
he was inactive (leg). Donte Whitner continued to start.
NYJ CB David Barrett (7 tackles, 2 solo, INT, DP) was questionable with a hip
injury, but he started ahead of Justin Miller (3 solo tackles).
The Good
- NYJ SS Kerry Rhodes: 10 tackles (7 solo), 2 sacks, 2 FF. Rhodes has picked
up 17 solo tackles and three sacks over the last two games.
- NYJ OLB Eric Barton: 8 tackles (7 solo)
- NYJ OLB Victor Hobson: 1 solo tackle, sack, 3 QH, FR (returned for a TD)
- NYJ CB Andre Dyson: 8 tackles (7 solo)
- BUF WLB Angelo Crowell: 10 tackles (6 solo), PD. Since the beginning of
2005, Crowell and PIT OLB Joey Porter are the only players to record a sack
and a pick in the same game three times. Crowell's third was last week at
Miami
The Bad
- BUF SS Donte Whitner: 3 tackles (1 solo)
- NYJ MLB Jon Vilma: 8 tackles (6 solo). Averaging 6 solo tackles per game
to start the year. Should we be expecting more?
- NYJ DE Shaun Ellis: 3 solo tackles in three games without a sack
- BUF DE Aaron Schobel: 2 assists. One solo tackle and one sack in three games.
Has a DE rotation eaten Aaron Schobel?
- BUF MLB London Fletcher: 7 tackles (4 solo), 2 PD. 17 solo tackles in last
four games v. NYJ
- BUF SS Donte Whitner: 3 tackles (1 solo). Production needs to catch up with
potential
Tennessee at Miami
Tome of Possession: Miami 35:29, Tennessee 24:31
Total Plays: Miami 68, Tennessee 57
Miami, supposedly a team on the rise, was expected to use this game as a confidence
booster. Unfortunately for them, the Texans didn't play along. Both teams were
looking for their first victory of the season, but the Titans had looked especially
bad in allowing 63 points and 869 yards in total offense during the first two
weeks. It ended being them, not Miami, who somewhat broke out offensively behind
the arm of Kerry Collins. Miami came out with the win, after starting 0-2 for
the first time since 1969, but Daunte Culpepper has been sacked 15 times and
the offense has scored four TDs in three games. There are still more questions
than answers in South Florida.
MIA CB Travis Daniels (2 tackles, 1 solo, INT, PD) was back on the field after
missing the first two games with an ankle injury, but he didn't start. Andre
Goodman (2 tackles, 1 solo, PD, FR) once again started in his place.
The Good
- TEN SS Chris Hope: 10 tackles (6 solo), PD. 25 solo tackles in three games
- TEN SLB David Thornton: 9 tackles (6 solo), PD
- TEN DE Kyle Vanden Bosch: 4 tackles (3 solo), sack, 2 QH. 12 solo tackles
and two sacks in three games
- MIA WLB Channing Crowder: 8 tackles (6 solo)
- MIA DT Keith Traylor: 5 tackles (4 solo), 2 sacks, 2 QH
The Bad
- TEN WLB Keith Bulluck: 5 tackles (2 solo), sack, FF. He hasn't recorded
<3 solos since 2004. Broke a string of three straight games with 10 or
more solo tackles
- MIA MLB Zach Thomas: 9 tackles (6 solo), INT, 2 PD. Solo tackles are down
from last year, back into the 03-04 range
- MIA SLB Donnie Spragan: 3 tackles (1 solo). Six solo tackles in three games
- MIA DE Jason Taylor: 2 assists, QH, PD. Four solo tackles and one sack in
three games. Also, four solos and one sack in last three v. TEN
- MIA DT Vonnie Holliday: 0 tackles, QH
- MIA DE Kevin Carter: 1 assist. Had posted a sack in each of the first two
games
The Ugly
- MIA CB Eddie Jackson (sprained toe)
- TEN LB Keith Bulluck (ankle)
Washington at Houston
Tome of Possession: Washington 38:27, Houston 21:33
Total Plays: Washington 68, Houston 48
Nothing like facing the leagues worst-ranked defense to get your offensive
woes resolved. The Washington Redskins entered week three 0-2 having scored
just one touchdown in its first two games. Mark Brunell completes an NFL record
22 straight passes on his way to 261 yards with a TD, Clinton Portis rushes
for 86 yards (156 total) with 2 TDs and the Gregg Williams led defense does
what they're supposed to do in holding the Texans under 300 total yards. It
all adds up to victory number one for the Redskins and new hope in the nation's
capital. Houston has now lost 9 of 11 v. the NFC while Washington has won 11
straight v. the AFC. Maybe the Texans passed on Reggie Bush because they were
eyeing Adrian Peterson all along. Entering the game, Clinton Portis needed 31
yards to become the 5th fastest all-time to reach 6000 yards. The Houston Texans
are the 28th different franchise that HC Joe Gibbs has defeated.
WAS DT Joe Salave'a (inactive) was questionable with a calf injury. He was
replaced in the starting lineup by rookie Kedric Golston (2 tackles, 1 solo,
½ sack, QH, FR).
There optimism for WAS CB Shawn Springs (abdomen) return this week, but a setback
once again had him inactive. Kenny Wright (1 solo tackle, INT, PD) started in
his place.
The Texans opened in a nickel defense with CB Dexter McCleon (3 tackles, 1
solo) joining Lewis Sanders and Dunta Robinson in the starting lineup. The extra
DB was brought in to match Washington's opening 3-WR set.
The Good
- WAS CB Carlos Rogers: 8 tackles (6 solos), PD
- WAS WLB Warrick Holdman: 8 tackles (6 solo)
- HOU CB Dunta Robinson: 11 solo tackles
- HOU MLB DeMeco Ryans: 10 tackles (9 solo). 26 solo tackles in three NFL
games
- HOU CB Lewis Sanders: 10 tackles (8 solo), PD. Consecutive games with eight
solo tackles
- HOU FS C.C. Brown: 7 tackles (6 solo)
The Bad
- HOU DE Mario Williams: 3 tackles (2 solo). The #1 overall pick has recorded
exactly 2 solo tackles in each of his first three games (zero sacks)
- WAS SS Adam Archuleta: 2 solo tackles, PD
- WAS SLB Marcus Washington: 3 tackles (2 solo), 2 PD
- WAS DE Andre Carter: absent from the boxscore. Unfortunate for him, this

with six sacks in the final three games. This year he's posted five solo tackles
without a sack in three games
- WAS DT Cornelius Griffin: 4 tackles (2 solo), PD. 16 solo tackles and two
sacks over his last 10 games
- HOU DE Jason Babin: One solo tackle in each of the first three games
- HOU OLB Shantee Orr: 5 solo tackles (0 sacks) through three games. He surprised
last year with seven sacks.
The Ugly
- WAS DE Andre Carter (leg)
Baltimore at Cleveland
Tome of Possession: Baltimore 31:51, Cleveland 28:09
Total Plays: Baltimore 70, Cleveland 59
The Baltimore Ravens defense had allowed a total of 305 yards and six points
through the seasons first two games. On Sunday, the Browns racked up 288 total
yards and 14 points. Not juggernaut numbers by any stretch, but certainly better
than we may have expected from a team looking for its first win of the year.
As for Baltimore, the averages move up to 197 total yards per game and 7 points
through three games, well below what they allowed during their Super Bowl year
of 2000 (257, 10). The Ravens, who lead the NFL with a +10 turnover differential,
sacked Charlie Frye seven times this week after getting to the Cleveland QB
eight times in two games a year ago. Baltimore is 3-0 for the first time in
their franchise history (post-Cleveland). The Browns posted 18 quarterback hurries
in this game, led by OLB Kamerion Wimbley (5) and SS Sean Jones (4). The Ravens
did them one better with 19 QH (WLB Bart Scott-5, SLB Adalius Thomas-4)
CLE DE Orpheus Roye (inactive), doubtful with a shoulder injury, was replaced
in the starting lineup by Ethan Kelley (2 solo tackles, QH).
CLE rookie OLB Kamerion Wimbley (2 tackles, 1 solo, 5 QH) started in place
of Willie McGinest, just as he did in week two. McGinest (3 solo tackles, sack,
QH, PD), listed as questionable with a calf injury, was inactive week two but
played this Sunday.
CLE CB Leigh Bodden (6 tackles, 4 solo, 2 PD) continues to start in place of
Daylon McCutcheon (knee), who's done for the year after being placed on the
IR. On the other side, Gary Baxter (pec- inactive) was replaced by Daven Holly.
The Good

- BAL SLB Adalius Thomas: 3 solo tackles, sack, 4 QH, PD. Thomas has recorded
a sack in four straight v. CLE, five of the last six
- BAL DE Terrell Suggs: 2 solo tackles, sack, 2 QH, PD. Suggs has 11 sacks
in 7 career games v. CLE
- BAL Ss: Ed Reed and Dawan Landry combined for 12 tackles (10 solo). Reed
has intercepted a pass in 4 of 7 career games v. CLE
The Bad
- CLE OLB Matt Stewart: 1 solo tackle
- CLE ILB D'Qwell Jackson: 5 tackles (3 solo), 2 QH
- CLE ILB Andra Davis: 7 tackles (4 solo). 14 solo tackles in three games.
Davis posted 24 tackles (13 solo) in two games v. BAL a year ago
- BAL MLB Ray Lewis: 7 tackles (3 solo), QH
The Ugly
- BAL DE Terrell Suggs (hamstring)
- CLE CB Daylon McCutcheon (knee) has been placed on the IR
New York Giants at Seattle
Tome of Possession: Seattle 38:00, New York Giants 22:00
Total Plays: Seattle 74, New York Giants 52
When these two teams get together, you're in for an offensive treat. The 2005
matchup, a 24-21 Seahawks victory, featured 845 total yards. This time around,
they only gave us 670 total yards (337 for NYG) but made up for a lack of yardage
with eight touchdown passes. Through three games, Seattle's defense has allowed
just 175 rushing yards (3.4 per carry). Shaun Alexander, with 91 career rushing
touchdowns, has tied Franco Harris and Jerome Bettis for eighth all-time.
The Good
- NYG SS Gibril Wilson: 10 tackles (9 solo). Consecutive games with nine solo
tackles
- NYG MLB Antonio Pierce: 9 tackles (8 solo), PD. Seven or more solos in each

Philadelphia at San Francisco
Tome of Possession: San Francisco 35:21, Philadelphia 24:39
Total Plays: San Francisco 77, Philadelphia 54
The last time these two matched up (2005 week 2) Donovan McNabb put on a show
with 342 passing yards and five TDs. McNabb was the star once again, with two
first quarter TD passes, but the game turned on a 98 fumble return TD by Eagles
DT Mike Patterson. A 14 swing as the 'Niners were trying to punch it in, a 14
point deficit as the games final score. This game was much closer than last
year 43-3 embarrassment. The Eagles are now 22-8 following a loss since 2000,
tops in the NFL. They've picked up 16 sacks in three games.
PHI DE Trent Cole started in place of Jevon Kearse, who's done for the year
with a knee injury.
PHI CB Rod Hood (3 tackles, 2 solo), listed as doubtful with a heel injury,
started the game. He himself in filling in for Lito Sheppard who's out with
an ankle injury.
SF DT Anthony Adams (1 solo tackle, sack, QH) started the game after being
listed questionable with an ankle injury.
The 49ers appear to be switching between 3-4 and 4-3 fronts on a weekly basis.
The Good
- PHI LB Shawn Barber: Barber isn't starting, but he sure is performing with
18 tackles (15 solo) over the last two games
- PHI SS Michael Lewis: 8 tackles (6 solo), sack, FF
- PHI MLB Jeremiah Trotter: 8 tackles (6 solo)
- PHI FS Brian Dawkins: 6 tackles (5 solo), FF
- PHI DE Trent Cole: 4 tackles (2 solo), sack, QH. Cole has picked up at least
one sack in each game thus far, five total. Cole has produced four multi-sack
games in 18 career games (24%). (Peppers and Freeney are both around 18%)
- PHI DT Mike Patterson: 1 solo tackle, 2 FR. Would have been a disappointment
were it not for the fumble return TD
The Bad
- PHI SLB Dhani Jones: 1 assist
- PHI CB Sheldon Brown: 3 tackles (1 solo). Six solo tackles in three games,
0 PD
- The entire 49ers defense. 23 solo tackles as a team, led by Shawntae Spencer's
four.
St. Louis at Arizona
Tome of Possession: St. Louis 30:07, Arizona 29:53
Total Plays: St. Louis 60, Arizona 57
Kurt Warner, the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in week one, looked a lot
closer to the guy that won a Super Bowl with the Rams than he did the guy who
lost his job in New York
for a week. Warner has fumbled twice and thrown
four interceptions in consecutive losses. Is the Matt Leinart watch on?
Arizona does a good job of stuffing the run when they play St. Louis Last year,
during their week 11 matchup, the Cards held the Rams to six yards on 12 carries
(38-28 ARI victory). On Sunday they limited the Rams to 63 yards on 28 carries
(2.8 average), but, as was the case last year, they didn't account for the passing
game. They had a solid chance to win this game and fumbled it away.
STL DE Anthony Hargrove missed practice this week, citing personal issues,
and was inactive. Rookie 4th round pick Victor Adeyanju (6 solo tackles) took
his place in the starting lineup.
STL WLB Pisa Tinoisamoa was questionable after dislocating his elbow a week
ago, but he started.
ARI CB Eric Green was inactive with a groin injury, replaced in the starting
lineup by Matt Ware (4 tackles, 3 solo, PD, FF).

last six games, but only one in his last five games v. ARI

has recorded 10 solo tackles against

- ARI SLB Calvin Pace: 3 solo tackles. With 6 solos and zero sacks in three
games, Pace hasn't had an impact
- ARI WLB Orlando Huff: 1 solo tackle
Denver at New England
Tome of Possession: Denver 31:45, New England 28:15
Total Plays: New England 76, Denver 64
New England's shot for revenge after losing both of the meetings last year
on Denver's home turf. Unfortunately, not much has changed and it looks like
these two are heading in different directions. In the two meetings a year ago,
Denver held the Patriots to 168 rushing yards (<100 in each) while allowing
just 50 on Sunday night. Denver went over 11 quarters this year before allowing
a touchdown, but they haven't exactly been burning up the endzone themselves
( 1 TD & 19 points entering week 3). The 11 quarter stretch is the longest
in the NFL since 1942. Denver was flagged six times this week after not recording
a penalty in week two. Tom Brady is now 1-5 v. DEN (inc. playoffs), 69-17 v.
rest of NFL.
DEN DE Courtney Brown, listed as doubtful with knee injury, was inactive again.
He was replaced in the starting lineup by Kenard Lang (3 tackles, 2 solo, 6
QH).
New England had their starting defense intact this game with Rosevelt Colvin
and Mike Vrabel at OLB, Junior Seau (13 tackles, 2 solo, PD) and Tedy Bruschi
(3 tackles, 2 solo, QH, PD) in the middle. OLB Tully Banta-Cain (zero) returns
to a backup role.
The Good
- NE OLB Mike Vrabel: 8 tackles (5 solo), QH. Vrabel picked up 20 tackles
(11 solo) v. DEN last year
- NE SS Rodney Harrison: 7 tackles (6 solo). Harrison is the only player in
NFL history with 25+ sacks (27.5) and 30+ INT (31)
- NE DE Ty Warren: 7 solo tackles, 2 QH, PD
- NE DE Richard Seymour: 7 tackles (4 solo), 3 QH
- NE CB Ellis Hobbs: 5 solo tackles
- DEN WLB Ian Gold: 13 tackles (11 solo), QH. 20 solo tackles over the last
two weeks
- DEN CB Darrent Williams: 10 tackles (9 solo). Williams took advantage of
the Patriots shying away from Champ "The Brady Killa" Bailey
- DEN SLB D.J. Williams: 10 tackles (6 solo), QH, PD. A rare solid performance
from the talented youngster
The Bad
- NE OLB Rosevelt Colvin: zero tackles, 2 QH
- DEN MLB Al Wilson: 2 assists. Wilson posted 18 tackles (13 solo) with 2
PD in two games last year v. NE
- DEN CB Champ Bailey: 1 assist
- DEN DE Ebenezer Ekuban: 3 assists, 2 QH. Ekuban had posted at least a half
sack in three straight games
The Ugly
- DEN CB Darrent Williams (neck)
- DEN DE Kenard Lang (mild concussion)
- NE SS Rodney Harrison (arm)
