Houston at Indianapolis

Time of Possession: Indianapolis 34:56, Houston 25:04
Total offensive plays: Indianapolis 75, Houston 53

Peyton Manning and the Colts are 9-0 all-time against the Houston Texans, outscoring them 276-133 (172-79 in 5 games at Indy). While the Colts dominated this contest, they still had trouble against the run allowing 108 rushing yards (4.7 average).

DT Corey Simon (knee) was inactive for the Colts while CBs Phillip Buchanon (ankle) and DeMarcus Faggins (foot) sat for Houston.

Colts SS Antoine Bethea (1 solo tackle) started in place of Mike Doss (2 solo tackles), who was questionable with a calf injury.

DE Jason Babin (2 tackles, 1 solo, sack, QH) started for the Texans ahead of Anthony Weaver (4 tackles, 3 solo, PD), the starter in week one.

Houston opened the game in a nickel defense to match the Colts 2-TE set. CB Dexter McCleon (5 solo tackles) joined normal starters Dunta Robinson (4 tackles, 3 solo) and Lewis Sanders (8 solo tackles).

The Good

  • HOU SS Glenn Earl: 10 tackles (8 solo), FF
  • IND MLB Gary Brackett: 10 tackles (8 solo). Brackett came into this game questionable with a calf injury and led the team in tackles. A nice follow up to his 6 solo tackle week one performance.
  • IND DE Robert Mathis: His struggles did not last long as he had an outstanding week two with 6 tackles (4 solo), 2 sacks, a QH and a FF.
  • IND DT Raheem Brock: 3 tackles (2 solo), 1.5 sacks, QH, FF, FR

The Bad

  • HOU DE Mario Williams: 2 solo tackles. Williams has posted just 3 solo tackles in two games without a pressure stat. To top it off, he was flagged for encroachment late in this weeks game on a 3rd and five, allowing Indianapolis to continue a drive (not that it mattered in this game).
  • IND DE Dwight Freeney: Freeney has posted just 2 tackles (1 solo) in two games.

The Ugly

  • HOU CB Roc Alexander tore his ACL in week one and is done for the year.
  • IND CB Marlin Jackson left the game with a leg injury.

New Orleans at Green Bay

Time of Possession: Green Bay 31:56, New Orleans 28:04
Total offensive plays: Green Bay 77, New Orleans 67

The Saints came into this game having lost seven straight at Green Bay (last win in 1971) including a 52-3 thumping by the Packers last year. After holding Cleveland to just 186 total yards in week one, New Orleans allowed Green Bay to rack up 385. The two teams combined for just 111 yards rushing (2.6 average).

LB Mark Simoneau (1 solo tackle) started at MLB for the Saints for the second straight week. Both Danny Clark and Alfred Fincher failed to record a tackle.

The Packers opened in a nickel defense to match the Saints 3-RB opening set. Ahmad Carroll (1 solo tackle) joined Charles Woodson and Al Harris (3 solo tackles, INT, PD) on the field.

The Good

  • NO SS Roman Harper: 7 tackles (6 solo), QH, PD. Harper posted 5 solo tackles with a sack/QH in week one.

  • GB FS Nick Collins: 15 tackles (13 solo), PD in two games.
  • GB CB Charles Woodson: 13 tackles (12 solo), PD, FF in two games. The much maligned new addition in Green Bay has opened up the season playing well.
  • GB DE Aaron Kampman: 4 solo tackles, 3 sacks, QH, 2 FF, FR. Kampman filled up the boxscore in week 2 and has been the most productive defensive end to start the season. In two games he's picked up 11 tackles (8 solo), 4 sacks, 5 QH, 2 FF, FR.

The Bad

  • NO MLB Mark Simoneau: 6 tackles (2 solo), 2 QH in two games
  • GB MLB Nick Barnett: 4 tackles (2 solo). Barnett has led the Packers in each of his first three seasons but has just 6 solo tackles in two games.

The Ugly

  • GB CBs Ahmad Carroll and Al Harris suffered cramps.

New York Giants at Philadelphia

Time of Possession: New York 32:24, Philadelphia 27:36
Total offensive plays: New York 77, Philadelphia 76

With this loss, the Eagles have now dropped 7 straight to NFC East opponents. From 01-04, the McNabb led Philadelphia Eagles won every game against the New York Giants. With McNabb out a year ago, they were swept in the season series. This one had to hurt, allowing the Giants to come back from a 17 point 4th quarter deficit and win it in overtime. The Eagles were strong against the run, giving up just 70 yards (3.3 average) to the Giants after New York posted 186 rushing yards (6.6) in week one. Philly has now given up 156 rushing yards in two games (3.4 average).

The Eagles have picked up 13 sacks in two games.

PHI CB Rod Hood (zero tackles) started in place of Lito Sheppard, who's inactive with an ankle injury. Hood himself was injured during the game, leaving recently signed Dexter Wynn (2 solo tackles) and Joselio Hanson (5 solo tackles) to fill in.

The Good

  • NYG WLB Carlos Emmons: 11 solo tackles, 2 PD
  • NYG MLB Antonio Pierce: 19 tackles (15 solo), 2 PD in two games.
  • NYG CB Sam Madison: 6 solo tackles, 3 PD

  • PHI WLB Matt McCoy: 2 solo tackles, 2 PD
  • PHI DE Darren Howard: 3 solo tackles (0 sacks) in two games

The Ugly

  • PHI DE Jevon Kearse is headed for the IR with a sprained knee. Grab DE Trent Cole ASAP if he's available.
  • PHI CB Rod Hood injured his heel.
  • NYG LB Antonio Pierce left the game with a leg injury.
  • NYG S James Butler left the game with a knee sprain.
  • NYG LB LaVar Arrington left the game with a stinger.

Oakland at Baltimore

Time of Possession: Baltimore 32:01, Oakland 27:59
Total offensive plays: Baltimore 66, Oakland 59

After watching the Raiders get shut out last week by the San Diego Chargers, and the Ravens shut out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, we knew that this game had the potential to get real ugly. Well, it did. Through two weeks, Oakland has yet to score a touchdown while the Ravens defense has yet to allow one. It's almost unthinkable but the Ravens have given up just 65 rushing yards in two games (1.7 average) while picking up 6 interceptions, 9 sacks, a safety and a touchdown (almost 3 TDs). WOW. Baltimore is now 2-0 for the first time since 2000, the year that they won the Super Bowl. Baltimore leads the NFL in defensive TDs with 15 since 2003.

The Raiders have allowed 15 sacks in two weeks.

OLB Grant Irons (4 tackles, 3 solo) started for the Raiders in place of Sam Williams, who was inactive with an ankle injury. CB Tyrone Poole (4 tackles, 3 solo, 3 PD) started in place of Nnamdi Asomugha, inactive with a foot injury.

The Good

  • OAK WLB Thomas Howard: The rookie has 7 solo tackles in each of his first two NFL games
  • OAK MLB Kirk Morrison: 7 tackles (5 solo), INT, PD
  • OAK DT Warren Sapp: 2 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 4 QH. When Sapp picks up at least 1 sack, his teams are a combined 39-20. It obviously didn't help this week.
  • BAL LB Adalius Thomas: 7 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 3 QH, INT, PD, safety. Defensive Player of the Week
  • BAL DE Terrell Suggs: 7 tackles (6 solo), 2 sacks, 2 QH, FF, FR

The Bad

  • OAK DE Derrick Burgess: 1 solo tackle. No sacks in two games.
  • OAK SS Michael Huff: The rookie has picked up just 2 solo tackles in each of his first two games
  • BAL CB Chris McAlister: 2 solo tackles, 2 PD. McAlister was flagged 3 times for pass interference/illegal contact penalties.
  • BAL CB Samari Rolle: 1 solo tackle

The Ugly

  • OAK CB Fabian Washington suffered a hamstring injury.
  • OAK LB Grant Irons suffered a back injury.
  • BAL CB Samari Rolle suffered a "minor" foot injury.

Miami at Buffalo

Time of Possession: Buffalo 30:59, Miami 29:01
Total offensive plays: Miami 59, Buffalo 52

The Bills sacked Daunte Culpepper 7 times, including 5 of the first 15 plays for Miami. In the loss, the Dolphins held Buffalo to just 171 total yards (66 passing/105 rushing).

Bills FS Troy Vincent, placed on the IR this past week, was set to play in his 200th career game this weekend. Vincent has been replaced in the lineup by rookie Ko Simpson (4 tackles, 1 solo, sack, QH).

MIA DT Dan Wilkinson was inactive after spending the week dealing with personal issues.

The Dolphins opened up in a nickel defense to match Buffalo's 3-WR set. CB Eddie Jackson (1 assist) joined Andre Goodman (3 tackles, 2 solo, PD) and Will Allen (3 solo tackles, QH) with WLB Channing Crowder on the sideline . Goodman himself is replacing injured starter Travis Daniels, who's inactive with an ankle injury. He was listed as questionable.

Rookie 6th round pick LB Keith Ellison (3 tackles, 1 solo) started in place of SLB Takeo Spikes who was inactive with a hamstring injury. Spikes was questionable entering the game. Angelo Crowell started on the weakside after speculation that he may move to SLB with Spikes out.

The Good

  • BUF WLB Angelo Crowell: 8 tackles (5 solo), sack, QH, INT, PD
  • BUF DE Ryan Denney: 4 solo tackles, 3 sacks, 2 QH, FF
  • MIA DE Kevin Carter: 2 solo tackles, sack, 3 QH
  • MIA DT Vonnie Holliday: In his 100th NFL game, Holliday notched 5 solo tackles. He has 13 tackles (11 solo) in two games this year

The Bad

  • BUF DE Aaron Schobel: After picking up at least a half-sack in 6 of the last 7 games versus Miami, Schobel was absent from the boxscore. Schobel's sack in week one moved him into 4th place on the Bills all-time list with 47.5 (Bruce Smith, Phil Hansen, Cornelius Bennett)
  • MIA MLB Zach Thomas: 5 tackles (2 solo)
  • MIA WLB Channing Crowder: 9 tackles (4 solo) in two games
  • MIA SLB Donnie Spragan: 6 tackles (4 solo) in two games

The Ugly

  • MIA LB Derrick Pope suffered a hamstring injury.

Carolina at Minnesota

Time of Possession: Minnesota 33:26, Carolina 26:34
Total offensive plays: Minnesota 70, Carolina 62

The Carolina Panthers have allowed 392 rushing yards (4.9 average) in two games this year after finishing last year as the leagues 4th ranked run defense (91.6 per game, 3.6 average). They are 0-2 for the first time since 1999. Minnesota started 2-0 in 2003 on their way to six straight wins to open the season. They won only three more games that year and missed the playoffs.

CAR MLB Dan Morgan, inactive because of a concussion that he suffered in week one, was replaced in the starting lineup by Adam Seward. Seward filled in impressively during week one with 6 tackles (5 solo) but picked up only 4 tackles (3 solo) this time around.

CAR LB Chris Draft is starting on the weakside.

MIN FS Dwight Smith (6 solo tackles) returned to the starting lineup this week after sitting out week one (team imposed suspension).

The Good

  • CAR SS Shaun Williams: 18 tackles (15 solo), PD in two games. He's picked up at least 7 solos in each game.
  • CAR CB Chris Gamble: 15 tackles (12 solo) in two games
  • CAR DE Julius Peppers: 8 tackles (6 solo), 3 sacks, 4 QH, PD. Peppers, with 44.5 career sacks, moved past Kevin Greene into second place on the Panthers all-time list (Mike Rucker, with 47.5, will be the next to fall)
  • MIN MLB Napoleon Harris: 10 tackles (9 solo), sack, QH
  • MIN CB Fred Smoot: 6 solo tackles. Smoot set his career high in solo tackles with 9 during their last meeting in 2005. He's picked up 6 solos in each game this year.

The Bad

  • CAR WLB Chris Draft: 14 tackles (7 solo) in two games
  • MIN SLB Ben Leber: 3 tackles (2 solo), 2 PD in two games
  • MIN DE Erasmus James: Blanked in week 2, has just 2 solo tackles on the year (0 sacks)
  • MIN DE Kenechi Udeze: 2 tackles (1 solo) in two games

The Ugly

  • CAR CB Ken Lucas suffered a neck strain in the 4th quarter.
  • MIN DE Erasmus James has been lost for the year with a torn ACL. Darrion Scott will likely replace James in the lineup with Ray Edwards also in the rotation.

Cleveland at Cincinnati

Time of Possession: Cincinnati 34:05, Cleveland 25:55
Total offensive plays: Cincinnati 76, Cleveland 53

After picking up seven sacks during week one, the second highest total in their franchise history, the Cincinnati Bengals failed to record a single sack against the Browns. Last year, the Bengals defense finished the year ranked #25 overall (343.5 total yards, 234.3 passing, 109.2 rushing). Thus far through two games in 2006 they've given up 82 yards rushing…total. Under HC Marvin Lewis, the Bengals are 19-1 with a positive turnover ratio. They won the T.O. battle on Sunday 3-2.

After sitting out the start of the game a week ago, CIN CB Deltha O'Neal (3 solo tackles, PD) was back in the starting lineup with rookie John Joseph (2 tackles, 1 solo) serving as the nickel back.

CLE FS Brian Russell (7 tackles, 5 solo) was a game time decision with an elbow injury but started.

The Good

  • CLE SS Sean Jones: 14 tackles (5 solo)
  • CLE CB Gary Baxter: 10 tackles (5 solo)
  • CLE ILB Andra Davis: 5 tackles (2 solo), INT, PD. Three of Davis' six career interceptions have come against Cincinnati.
  • CIN MLB Brian Simmons: 6 tackles (4 solo), INT, PD, FF. Not big totals this week but Simmons has led the Bengals in tackles during each of the first two weeks

The Bad

  • CLE ILB D'Qwell Jackson: 4 tackles (1 solo)
  • CLE OLB Matt Stewart: has just one solo tackle in each of the first two games
  • CIN DEs Justin Smith and Robert Geathers: The duo combined for 8 solo tackles and 5 sacks in week one, just 3 tackles (1 solo) this week.
  • CIN SLB David Pollack: 1 assist in two games

The Ugly

  • CIN OLB David Pollack has been placed on the IR after suffering a neck injury in this weeks game. It's not expected to be a career-threatening injury. Pollack was replaced in week one by undrafted rookie Rashad Jeanty.
  • CIN FS Dexter Jackson injured his ankle.

Detroit at Chicago

Time of Possession: Chicago 33:00, Detroit 27:00
Total offensive plays: Chicago 62, Detroit 50

Chicago scored over 24 points just twice in 2005, a feat they've already matched through two weeks this year. Detroit's defense looked like a different unit this week compared to the team that held Seattle to just nine points and 264 total yards in week one (Chicago posted 34 and 383). Chicago, on the other hand, looked just as dominating as their week one shut out of Green Bay, holding the Lions to just 46 yards rushing and picking up 6 sacks. So much for the Roy Williams guarantee.

CHI SLB Hunter Hillenmeyer was inactive because of a concussion suffered in week one. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Brendon Ayabedejo (5 solo tackles). Hillenmeyer was questionable entering the game.

CHI FS Chris Harris was questionable with an ankle injury, but he started.

Just as in week one, DET LB Paris Lenon (5 tackles, 3 solo) started at MLB and Alex Lewis (zero) started on the strongside.

The Good

  • DET WLB Ernie Sims: 7 solo tackles in each of his first two NFL games
  • DET FS Daniel Bullocks: 6 solo tackles
  • DET SS Kenoy Kennedy: 6 solo tackles
  • CHI MLB Brian Urlacher: 7 solo tackles, QH, FR.
  • CHI DE Adewale Ogunleye: 2 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 QH, PD. Ogunleye is looking to become the Bears first defender with back-to-back 10+ sack seasons since Richard Dent accomplished it in 90-91

The Bad

  • DET DEs Kalimba Edwards and Cory Redding: The duo has combined for just 5 solo tackles in two games without a sack
  • DET LB Boss Bailey: 1 solo tackle, PD. Bailey had an INT/TD nullified because of penalty
  • CHI DE Alex Brown: 1 solo tackle, QH
  • CHI CB Nathan Vasher: 5 solo tackles through two games. Vasher is going to have a hard time living up to last years remarkable season (41 solo tackles, 8 interceptions, added value from kick returns)
  • CHI SS Mike Brown: 6 tackles (5 solo) in two games

The Ugly

  • DET SS Kenoy Kennedy injured his foot.
  • DET S Jon McGraw suffered a concussion.
  • DET LB Alex Lewis injured ligaments in his knee during the 1st quarter.

Tampa Bay at Atlanta

Time of Possession: Atlanta 34:09, Tampa Bay 25:51
Total offensive plays: Tampa Bay 70, Atlanta 63

Simply put, Atlanta is on a role. Through two weeks the Falcons have posted 558 rushing yards (including a franchise record 306 this week) while holding their opponents to a combined total of 105. This type of effort was unthinkable when you consider that they've done it against Carolina and Tampa Bay, supposedly two of the leagues better run defenses. The Falcons have allowed just nine points in two games (3 FGs) and leave the Buccaneers still looking for their first touchdown of 2006. Running the ball and stuffing the run, that's winning football.

Rookie 2nd round pick CB Jimmy Williams (2 tackles, 1 solo, PD) started at cornerback ahead of Jason Webster (2 tackles, 1 solo, PD). Webster had started week one for Atlanta.

ATL MLB Ed Hartwell, doubtful with a knee injury, was inactive. As will be the case as long as Hartwell is out, LB Keith Brooking moved inside while Demorrio Williams started on the weakside.

ATL DE John Abraham, questionable with a groin injury, was also inactive. It's speculated that he could be out until week five. Chauncey Davis (1 solo tackle) started in his place.

ATL DE Patrick Kerney left last weeks game with a triceps injury and it was uncertain whether he'd play this week or not. He was in, extending his starting streak to 98 straight games.

TB MLB Shelton Quarles (8 tackles, 5 solo, QH, FF) sat out week one and was questionable entering this game with a groin injury. He started, sending Barrett Ruud (zero) back into a reserve role.

TB CB Brian Kelly was probable all week with a foot injury but ended up inactive for the game. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Juran Bolden (5 solo tackles, sack, QH).

The Good

  • TB SS Jermaine Phillips: 13 tackles (12 solo), 2 FF, FR
  • TB CB Ronde Barber: 6 solo tackles, PD
  • TB WLB Derrick Brooks: 6 solo tackles, INT, PD. Brooks had returned the interception for a TD but it was called back for an illegal block. Brooks had posted 10+ tackles in all 11 career starts versus the Falcons, picking up a sack in each of the last three
  • ATL MLB Keith Brooking: 9 tackles (7 solo). Brooking had an interception in both games last year v. Tampa Bay
  • ATL CB DeAngelo Hall: 4 solo tackles, 2 INT, 4 PD. During their last matchup, Hall returned an interception 65 yards for a TD
  • ATL DT Rod Coleman: 1 solo tackle, sack, 2 QH, PD. Atlanta is now 13-4 when Coleman records at least one sack

The Bad

  • TB DEs Simeon Rice and Greg Spires: combined for 4 solo tackles and, once again, backup DeWayne White records a sack
  • ATL WLB Demorrio Williams: Williams excelled last year when given the opportunity to start alongside Brooking, but he hasn't lived up to that production through two games in '06 (9 solo tackles)
  • ATL DE Patrick Kerney: 0 tackles, PD
  • ATL FS Chris Crocker: 5 solo tackles in two games

The Ugly

  • ATL S Chris Crocker left the game with an injury but returned.
  • TB DT Chris Hovan, CB Juran Bolden and LB Shelton Quarles all left the game with injuries but returned.

Arizona at Seattle

Time of Possession: Seattle 31:53, Arizona 28:07
Total offensive plays: Seattle 66, Arizona 63

Seattle was the leagues highest scoring team in 2005 with 452 points (28.3/game). They've scored just 30 in two games this year, although they showed signs of life early on against Arizona. Lucky for them, their defense has been on, allowing just 16 points and 103 rushing yards through two weeks (averaged allowing 16.9 points and 94.4 rushing yards a year ago). Arizona gave up 313 rushing yards and 6 TDs to Shaun Alexander in two games last year, making his 89 yard/1 TD performance this week a mild victory for the Cardinals.

Although he was listed as probable, there was question as to whether or not SEA LB LeRoy Hill would be ready to play because of a shoulder injury. Hill started, sending D.D. Lewis (zero) back into a reserve role.

ARI CB David Macklin, a starter in week one, has been benched in favor of Eric Green (3 solo tackles). Macklin was inactive for week two (uninjured).

ARI SLB Darryl Blackstock was a surprise starter at SLB for the Cardinals. Both Karlos Dansby (2 tackles, 1 solo, PD) and Calvin Pace (1 assist) are healthy. It may not be a long-lived starting gig for Blackstock as he was held without a tackle.

The Good

  • ARI UT Darnell Dockett: 12 tackles (8 solo), sack, QH
  • ARI SS Adrian Wilson: 7 tackles (6 solo), 2 sacks, 2 QH, INT, PD
  • ATL MLB Gerald Hayes: 4 solo tackles, INT, PD. Hayes has a sack or pick in each of the first two games
  • SEA OLB Julian Peterson: 6 solo tackles, sack, 3 QH, PD. A sack in each of his first two games as a member of the Seahawks
  • SEA LB LeRoy Hill: 8 solo tackles, sack, 2 QH
  • SEA FA Ken Hamlin: 6 solo tackles, sack, FF
  • SEA CB Kelly Herndon: 10 tackles (8 solo), PD, FF. Herndon has led the Seahawks in solo tackles during each of their first two games

The Bad

  • ARI DE Bertrand Berry: 2 solo tackles, 3 QH in two games. Berry has now gone three straight games without at least a partial sack, the longest dry-spell of his career
  • SEA DE Bryce Fisher: 1 assist, QH. Fisher had a sack in each of the last two v. Arizona
  • SEA SS Michael Boulware: Boulware has been active, picking up an INT, 2 PD and a FF in two weeks, but he's also posted just 4 solo tackles

St. Louis at San Francisco

Time of Possession: St. Louis 34:37, San Francisco 25:23
Total offensive plays: St. Louis 68, San Francisco 55

There appeared to be a new era in St. Louis during week one as the Rams held Denver in check, limiting the Broncos to just 98 passing yards and 10 points. What the week one victory covered up was a hole in their run defense (161 yards, 6.4 averaged) that the 49ers were able to exploit in week two. San Francisco's revived offense posted 360 total yards (127 rushing/233 passing) which included big plays both on the ground and through the air. The 'Niners have averaged 377 yards of total offense this year after recording a league low 224.2 in 2005.

STL DT Jimmy Kennedy (zero) broke his hand last week and played through with a cast. He was in the starting lineup on Sunday after being listed as questionable. WLB Pisa Tinoisamoa also started after being listed as questionable with a foot injury.

The Good

  • SF CB Walt Harris: 7 solo tackles, 3 PD. A 10 year vet, the 32 year old Harris has been playing like a guy in his prime. Harris has been all over the field during the first two weeks (12 solo tackles, sack, 5 PD, FF, FR)
  • SF DT Bryant Young: 5 solo tackles, sack, QH. Young has 15 career sacks v. St. Louis, the most he's picked up against any team. Young ranks 6th among active players with 79.5 sacks
  • SF OLB Manny Lawson: 3 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 2 QH
  • SF S Chad Williams: 3 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 2 QH
  • STL MLB Will Witherspoon: 18 solo tackles, PD, 2 FF in two games
  • STL FS O.J. Atogwe: 5 solo tackles, PD

The Bad

  • SF SS Tony Parrish: 4 solo tackles in two games. A rotation at SS for the 'Niners could kill Parrish's value
  • STL WLB Pisa Tonoisamoa: 6 solo tackles in 2 games
  • STL DE Anthony Hargrove: 1 solo tackle
  • STL DE Leonard Little: 3 tackles (2 solo), QH, PD. Little had recorded a sack in 6 consecutive games versus San Francisco
  • STL SS Corey Chavous: 4 tackles (3 solo) in two games

The Ugly

  • STL WLB Pisa Tinoisamoa dislocated his elbow.

Kansas City at Denver

Time of Possession: Denver 31:39, Kansas City 28:21
Total offensive plays: Denver 66, Kansas City 58

A defensive battle between two offensive jugger…nauts. The 9-6 victory by Denver was the lowest scoring game in the 93 times these two teams have met (93!!!) and it was the only one which didn't feature a touchdown. The home team has now won the last eight meetings in this series. Denver made it through the game without a penalty, they didn't give up a sack, and they only had one turnover (Plummer INT) after turning the ball over five times in week one (league low 16 TO in 2005).

DEN DE Kenard Lang (1 assist) started for the second straight week in place of Courtney Brown, who's inactive with a knee injury.

The Good

  • KC SS Sammy Knight: 7 solo tackles
  • DEN WLB Ian Gold: 11 tackles (9 solo), PD
  • DEN CB Champ Bailey: 17 tackles (15 solo) in two games
  • DEN CB Darrent Williams: 11 solo tackles in two games

The Bad

  • KC LBs Kawika Mitchell and Derrick Johnson: combined for 8 tackles (7 solo), QH. Mitchell has posted just four solo tackles in each of the first two games
  • KC DT Ron Edwards: 1 solo tackle in two games
  • DEN LB D.J. Williams: 4 solo tackles in two games

New England at New York Jets

Time of Possession: New England 30:16, NY Jets 29:44
Total offensive plays: New England 69, NY Jets 65

Not much has changed since a year ago. In their two 2005 matchups, New England held the Jets to just 40.5 rush yards per game. On Sunday, New York picked up just 50 yards on the ground. The Jets did gain 286 yards in the air and relied on their passing game to keep this game close and send it into overtime. The Patriots have now won seven in a row against their AFC East rival.

NE ILB Tedy Bruschi, out week one and questionable entering this game recovering from a broken wrist, was active but did not start.

The Patriots opened in a 4-3 defensive front with Junior Seau (5 tackles, solo) in the middle flanked by Rosevelt Colvin (3 tackles, 2 solo) and Mike Vrabel. Backup DE Mike Wright (1 solo tackle) was the extra defensive lineman.

As in week one, the Jets opened in a 4-3 defensive front with Bryan Thomas listed as a DE.

NYJ CB Justin Miller (5 tackles, 4 solo), who recorded a career high 6 solo tackles the last time these teams met, started ahead of David Barrett. Barrett was active but questionable entering the game with a hip injury.

The Good

  • NE ILB Tedy Bruschi: Though he did not start, Bruschi still had an impact. He led New England linebackers with 6 tackles (4 solo) and intercepted a pass with 2 PD
  • NE OLB Mike Vrabel: 6 tackles (3 solo), sack, QH. He didn't quite have the same impact as he did the last time these two teams met when Vrabel became the first player in history with two TDs (receptions) and a sack in the same game
  • NE DE Richard Seymour: 5 tackles (3 solo), sack, QH, PD. The Patriots are now 25-3 when Seymour records at least 0.5 sack
  • NE DE Ty Warren: Led the team with 11 tackles, only 3 of which were solos
  • NYJ SS Kerry Rhodes: 11 tackles (10 solo), sack, PD, FF
  • NYJ CB David Barrett: 12 tackles (10 solo), INT, PF, FF in two games

The Bad

  • NE CB Ellis Hobbs: 5 solo tackles in two games. Hobbs ended last year on a strong note with 27 solo tackles and 11 PD in the final eight games but he's yet to get on track in '06
  • NYJ DE Shaun Ellis: 2 solo tackles in two games. Ellis has 7 career sacks v. New England and set his career high in solo tackles v. the Patriots with 7 back in 2003
  • NYJ ILB Jon Vilma: 7 tackles (5 solo)

Tennessee at San Diego

Time of Possession: San Diego 38:35, Tennessee 21:25
Total offensive plays: San Diego 73, Tennessee 57

The Chargers, looking for their first 2-0 start since 2003, had what pretty much accounted to a bye week on Sunday. Tennessee, who scored a late TD to avoid the shut out, was never in the game and likely won't be in many games this year. Coming off of a nine-sack shut out performance against Oakland (3rd most in SD franchise history), holding them to 129 total yards (42 passing), the Chargers defense looks to be one of the surprise units of the year. Relying on the running game while they ease Phillip Rivers into the NFL, it'll be interesting to see how San Diego responds once they get into the NFL portion of their schedule.

TEN DT Robaire Smith was inactive with a hamstring injury and replaced by Randy Starks (2 solo tackles) in the starting lineup.

SD DE Igor Olshansky was inactive with a knee injury. Jacques Cesaire (1 solo tackle) replaced him in the lineup.

The Good

  • TEN SS Chris Hope: 12 solo tackles, PD. 19 solo tackles in two games
  • TEN WLB Keith Bulluck: 26 tackles (20 solo) in two games

These two Titans certainly benefited from being on the field for nearly 40 minutes.

  • SD CB Quentin Jammer: led San Diego with 5 solo tackles, INT, PD
  • SD OLB Shawne Merriman: only 1 assist but he recorded his first career INT with 2 PD

The Bad

  • San Diego pass rush. After knocking the Raiders quarterbacks insane during week one, they failed to record a single sack this week.
  • Terrence Kiel: 1 solo tackle

Washington at Dallas

Time of Possession: Dallas 31:55, Washington 28:05
Total offensive plays: Dallas 70, Washington 59

Washington, now 0-2, is off to its worst start since opening 0-5 in 2001. The Redskins have thrown for just 315 yards in two games (allowed 462). The Cowboys got to Mark Brunell six times on Sunday night while the 'Skins have picked up just a single sack in each of the first two games, none by the trio of Andre Carter, Phillip Daniels and Marcus Washington which is considered the core of their QB pressure.

WAS CB Shawn Springs was out again with an abdomen injury. He was replaced in the lineup by Kenny Wright (2 tackles, 1 solo).

DAL FS Pat Watkins started ahead of Keith Davis (zero), as he did in week one.

The Good

  • DAL DE Chris Canty: 1 solo tackle
