Week 8 Players in the News

The Latest News

Quarterback

Running Back

*** Saturday Update *** RB Jason McKie (CHI) is one of only two offensive starters who will be an unrestricted FA following the season, and it's believed the Bears are interested in extending him.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Tatum Bell (DEN) will benefit from Colts' Pro Bowl safety Bob Sanders being ruled out for Sunday's game. Sanders is recovering from knee surgery and it had been hoped he might be ready for this game.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Tatum Bell (DEN) wanted to be a full-time running back. And with the extra carries comes the added contact. The difference has been felt in his body Monday mornings this season. He's stiffer, sorer, and something new seems to hurt every time, too. "I'd hate to see those guys who back in the day used to carry 40 times," said Bell. "Twenty- five is good enough."

*** Saturday Update *** RB LaMont Jordan (OAK) Practiced Friday and looked good but that's no sure sign he'll be ok. "He looked good, quick. He looked rested, but he did that last week, too," coach Art Shell said. "We'll see how he responds." Back spasms are obviously something that can flare up quickly. This was the case with Jordan last week when he was fine on Friday but had trouble in the warmups. The Raiders kick off at 4:15 PM ET so official word on Jordan won't come down until about 3:15 and that's too late for most teams. We're cautiously optimistic but understand there is a risk involved with starting Jordan.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Frank Gore (SF) has reportedly changed agents, switching from recently suspended David Dunn to Drew Rosenhaus. Word is that Gore is angling for an extension with the 49ers (and that the team has expressed interest in doing so), and that Gore was uncomfortable with the uncertainty surrounding Dunn. Gore was a third-round pick in 2005, and is signed through 2007. He's earning $350,000 this year and will make $385,000 next year.

*** Saturday Update *** RB Cadillac Williams (TB) has only six 3rd down touches through six games, and the chances of that figure increasing anytime soon seem remote. The Bucs rank 20th in the league with a 37% third-down conversion rate, and HC Jon Gruden says he has no plans to alter his attack. "When you're on third down you've got [primary targets] and things of that nature, so that's just the way it goes," Gruden said. "And right now Michael Pittman is a big part of our third-down attack.

Wide Receiver

*** Saturday Update *** WR Anquan Boldin (ARI) is listed as probable and is expected to start Sunday.

*** Saturday Update *** WR Greg Jennings (GB) HC Mike McCarthy said on Friday that Jennings will be put through a pre-game workout on Sunday in order to determine his playing status for Week 8 and is considered to be a game time decision. He is currently listed as doubtful on the team's injury report.

*** Saturday Update *** WR Ruvell Martin (GB) If WR Greg Jennings is unable to play on Sunday, Martin will be elevated to No. 2 receiver for the Packers. HC Mike McCarthy said they will have Jennings go through a pre-game workout on Sunday, and his availability will be a game-time decision.

Tight End

Kicker

Offensive Line

*** Saturday Update *** OL Oakland Raiders (OAK) HC Art Shell says OT Robert Gallery has struggled with his mechanics this season, particularly his footwork and use of hands in pass protection. "He's not where we want him to be or where he wants to be. He's had some struggles, he's quite aware of that," Shell said of Gallery. "It's all about mechanics. The mechanical things he's doing have to be perfect all the time. He can do them very well out here at practice. But when he gets in the game, he loses the concept of what he has to do and how he has to do it. So we've got to try to beat his brain and get it engrained in his mind that this is what you have to do, this is how you have to set and this is how you have to use your hands in pass protection. And he doesn't always do that. So that gets him into trouble."

Defensive Line

*** Saturday Update *** DL Adewale Ogunleye (CHI) The Bears are hopeful that DE Adewale Ogunleye will be back in the starting lineup Sunday against the 49ers after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury. "Wale is one of our best football players," said HC Lovie Smith. "He’s one of the best defensive ends in the National Football League, so it should help quite a bit. He’s one of our veterans and gives us a lot of veteran leadership along with his good play. So hopefully we'll get him back out on the football field."

*** Saturday Update *** DL Gerard Warren (DEN) said Friday, after practicing for the first time this week, that he expects to play Sunday in the Broncos' pivotal game against the Colts. Warren participated in all of Denver's 90-minute workout, the final workout before playing the Colts. HC Mike Shanahan said he will review the practice film of Warren's participation and it will be a game-time decision on whether he can play.

*** Saturday Update *** DL Pat Williams (MIN) has been upgraded from questionable to probable for Week 8 vs. New England.

Linebacker

Defensive Back

*** Saturday Update *** DB Bob Sanders (IND) has been ruled out for Sunday's game.

*** Saturday Update *** DB PacMan Jones (TEN) is under investigation for suspicion of misdemeanor assault after a Tennessee State student accused him of spitting in her face at a nightclub early Thursday.

General Team News

*** Saturday Update *** TM New York Giants (NYG) Wind gusts are expected to be as high as 40 miles an hour at Giants stadium on Sunday as the Giants get ready to face the Tampa Bay Bucs. Eli Manning said yesterday, that he has never played in a game having to deal with harsh wind conditions. "I haven't had a bad wind game, never a brutal wind game," Manning said. "You can't change the way you throw, you can't change your fundamentals or the way you grip it or throw it, you've just got to be confident in your throws and understand some deep stuff, and other things, you've got to be careful throwing."

*** Saturday Update *** TM Tampa Bay Buccaneers (TB) Wind gusts are expected to be as high as 40 miles an hour at Giants stadium on Sunday as the Giants get ready to face the Tampa Bay Bucs.

All the news

Quarterback

*** Thursday Update *** QB Matt Leinart (ARI) was back for practice Thursday and will start Sunday.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Matt Leinart (ARI) missed practice on Wednesday due to the birth of his son, Cole, Tuesday night. Leinart is expected to return to practice on Thursday.

*** Friday Update *** QB Steve McNair (BAL) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Steve McNair (BAL) practiced on Wednesday and said that he would be ready to start Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. He worked with the first team Wednesday and did not have any setbacks. "I think today was the key to go out and execute the offense without confusion, without any pause and without hesitation. I've done that," McNair said. "I think it's fair to say I'm healthy and ready to go." McNair said the bye week allowed him to take some time off and rest mentally as well as physically. "I feel good today. I got the brains back working again," he said. "Overall, it felt good to be out at practice today. I felt better than I felt in a long time. I felt fresh and rejuvenated."

QB Steve McNair (BAL) did not practice fully but is looking like he'll be able to start this week after battling a concussion.

QB J.P. Losman (BUF) HC Dick Jauron said that he "absolutely" is sticking with J.P. Losman as his quarterback. He said he believes he will be a good quarterback and they need to push through this tough time. As far as making a change, he said that would come when he feels it but at this point he still believes in Losman.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Anthony Wright (CIN) is still out recovering from his appendectomy. He did not practice on Wednesday and will not play this weekend.

QB Drew Bledsoe (DAL) has said that he would never be a backup. He even insinuated that he would rather retire than watch someone else play. That will be soon tested, as on Monday night before a national TV audience, Drew Bledsoe was benched for QB Tony Romo. "Very bad decision," Bledsoe said walking out from the tunnel in street clothes after the game. When asked whose decision it was, Bledsoe said, "Bill." "It was too many mistakes," HC Bill Parcells said. "Too much improvising." "During the week Tony got a couple of reps," WR Terry Glenn said. "People were on standby about him playing if things weren't going well early, which is what happened."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Tony Romo (DAL) will make his first career start Sunday night at Carolina. HC Bill Parcells said Wednesday that Romo, who replaced Drew Bledsoe in the second half of Monday night's loss to the Giants, will start. "Any time you do something like this, it's not without a lot of consideration," Parcells said. "I've been thinking about it for some time. Hopefully, maybe as the team is comprised right now, he might be able to do a couple of things that assist us." Drew Bledsoe said that while he's disappointed about being replaced as Cowboys quarterback, he is going to support Tony Romo and be a leader on the team. "I'm gonna do the right thing and be a leader on the team and support Tony," Bledsoe said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon. "I'm going to do what I can in an unfamiliar role to help the team get back on the right track."

QB Jake Plummer (DEN) HC Mike Shanahan said on Monday that Plummer would start for the team in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts, amid rumors of Jay Cutler possibly being moved into a starting role with the team. "When we do make a decision, we'll make the decision in the best interest of our organization. I will tell you this - Jake Plummer will be our quarterback against Indy," Shanahan said.

*** Friday Update *** QB Jim Sorgi (IND) suffered a back injury and was added to the injury report as questionable.

*** Friday Update *** QB David Garrard (JAX) is expected to start in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, replacing the injured Byron Leftwich. Per ESPN's Len Pasquarelli, Leftwich was downgraded from "questionable" to "out" on the injury report Friday after battling a sprained ankle.

*** Friday Update *** QB Byron Leftwich (JAX) has been downgraded from questionable to out and will not play this weekend according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli. David Garrard will start for the team.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Byron Leftwich (JAX) missed practice Thursday because of his sore left ankle, increasing the chances that backup David Garrard will start at Philadelphia. Leftwich also sat out practice last Friday because of the injury, but convinced coaches he was OK to play at Houston. Leftwich then missed several open receivers and failed to rally the Jaguars from a 10-point deficit. He remained questionable on the injury report, but Garrard took most of the snaps a day after HC Jack Del Rio had the quarterbacks split repetitions. Leftwich said Thursday he could still play against the Eagles without practicing (he's done it before), but Del Rio was so upset over the situation last week that Leftwich seemingly has little chance of simply talking his way into the starting lineup again.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Byron Leftwich (JAX) HC Jack Del Rio has changed his mind and has decided that QB Byron Leftwich must demonstrate his ankle is healthy before he gets the start in Philadelphia Sunday. Del Rio, who said Monday that he didn't think Leftwich's ankle was the reason for his poor play against the Texans, changed his tune after conducting a detailed videotape review. He concluded the sore ankle did cause Leftwich to struggle. Del Rio then outlined to Leftwich how he'll judge whether he can play Sunday after he watches him in practice this week. He will be watched very closely. David Garrard was to split time with Leftwich in practice on Wednesday, as Leftwich was to appear as questionable on the Jaguars injury report with an injured left ankle. Del Rio expressed regret in allowing Leftwich to play in Houston on Sunday, despite the ankle injury. Asked if he will be able to play this week, Leftwich said, “I don't think that's going to be my decision.”

QB Byron Leftwich (JAX) HC Jack Del Rio admitted that he considered benching Leftwich Sunday. On Monday he said he expects Leftwich to start the next game in Philadelphia on Sunday. Del Rio added that after viewing the video of the Houston loss, he didn't think Leftwich's sore ankle was a factor in his poor showing. If Leftwich's ankle wasn't the problem, it could be an indication that he just had a bad day throwing the ball.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Trent Green (KC) will not play this weekend. He did practice on Wednesday and according to HC Herman Edwards, “threw the ball well”.

*** Friday Update *** QB Damon Huard (KC) did not practice Friday and may not start Sunday against Seattle. HC Herm Edwards said rookie Brodie Croyle would start if Huard can't go, but said it could be a game-day decision. Croyle worked exclusively with the first team Friday. Huard was injured Thursday, leaving Croyle to finish that practice with the first team.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Damon Huard (KC) Keep an eye on Huard. According to Metro Sports, a local cable sports network in KC, the Chiefs were practicing indoors today because of the bad weather here and near the end of practice, Huard felt a twinge in his groin and left the field quickly. Croyle finished practice out with the first team. The team has not officially said anything yet so stay tuned.

*** Friday Update *** QB Daunte Culpepper (MIA) is progressing well in his rehabilitation from knee surgery and has increased his work during practice. "He's done a lot this week and improved," HC Nick Saban said. "I think it's still a management to not overdo it. He did a nice combination this week of his rehab as well as being able to do some of the football stuff, like he did the first couple of weeks before he got sore. We made progress the last couple of days. I think he's made some progress."

*** Friday Update *** QB Tom Brady (NE) practiced on Friday and will start as normal this weekend.

*** Friday Update *** QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) practiced on Thursday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Aaron Brooks (OAK) did not practice on Wednesday and is not expected to play this weekend.

QB Andrew Walter (OAK) has started an all-out quarterback controversy. QB Aaron Brooks is doubtful for Sunday's home game with the Steelers, and Walter is expected to start despite leaving Sunday's 22-9 victory with a mild hamstring strain. For the first time, HC Art Shell hinted Brooks will have to earn his way back onto the field. "I've got a lot of confidence in Andrew, I really do," Shell said. "Brooks has to go to work, has to show us he's capable of doing things necessary to play the quarterback position as far as throwing the ball, and we haven't seen that."

*** Friday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) went through a full practice on Thursday and on Friday, but HC Bill Cowher declined to say if Roethlisberger will play against the Raiders. Even though Cowher said he is "very encouraged" about Roethlisberger's progress, he said he likely will wait until Sunday morning before determining if he will play against the Raiders. The buzz for now seems to be that he will start unless he suffers a setback between now and Sunday.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) practiced on Thursday but remains questionable for this weekend. He is feeling better. Coach Bill Cowher said that he's "very encouraged" about Roethlisberger's progress but will still wait until Sunday to make a decision.

"He feels better than he did yesterday," Cowher said. "We'll see how he feels after traveling across the country."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) returned to practice on Wednesday, three days after suffering a concussion in the third quarter of the Steelers loss to the Falcons. Roethlisberger would like to play Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. "I'm going to try and play (on Sunday). I feel with the help of the medical staff here I can be ready to go. Hopefully, I can convince him (Cowher) to let me play."

QB Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) is questionable for the game against Oakland after sustaining a concussion against Atlanta -- the second concussion for the Super Bowl-winning quarterback in slightly more than four months. "He will be cleared medically before we subject him to playing," HC Bill Cowher said Tuesday. "We will take all necessary precautions."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) did not practice on Wednesday and will not play this weekend.

QB Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) received the results from the magnetic resonance imaging test done on his knee and he has a grade-2 sprain of his medial collateral ligament. The injury will keep him out at least three weeks, but Hasselbeck felt fortunate. "The news on the MRI was really good, and I feel very lucky," Hasselbeck said.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Chris Simms (TB) is still out recovering from his splenectomy.

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Vince Young (TEN) on Wednesday had his best day of practice yet in a Titans uniform according to HC Jeff Fisher. “Our quarterback today I think had his best day of practice thus far,” Fisher said. “I was very impressed with what Vince did today. He was accurate; Wednesday's gameplan is typically a tough day because we have new stuff in. He picked it up and had a really good day of practice.”

*** Thursday Update *** QB Mark Brunell (WAS) has been missing practice during the bye week as expected with the rib muscle strain. Jason Campbell has been taking snaps and that's fueling the rumor mill that Campbell may get a shot soon.

QB Mark Brunell (WAS) strained a rib muscle during Week 7. He is expected to miss some practice time as a result of the injury. HC Joe Gibbs said Brunell would remain his starting quarterback when asked about the position again Monday.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Jason Campbell (WAS) There is a good bit of buzz that the Redskins are considering going with Jason Campbell at quarterback after the bye week. Coach Joe Gibbs seems to be leaning toward sticking with Brunell but it's one to watch.

Running Back

*** Friday Update *** RB Obafemi Ayanbadejo (ARI) did not practice on Friday and is not expected to play this weekend.

*** Friday Update *** RB DeAngelo Williams (CAR) practiced some Friday as the Panthers prepared for their Sunday night game with the Dallas Cowboys. Williams, who has been sidelined by a sprained right ankle, is still listed as questionable for the game on the team's injury report.

*** Thursday Update *** RB DeAngelo Williams (CAR) missed practice Thursday, a day after returning to the field following a sprained right ankle. Williams remains questionable for Week 8's game against Dallas. "We just follow what the medical people say," coach John Fox said. "We meet on that every day, and that's the direction we went today."

*** Wednesday Update *** RB DeAngelo Williams (CAR) returned to practice today. HC John Fox said Williams, who has missed the past two games with a sprained ankle, looked good during the session. He is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report. “He’ll be day-to-day, and we’ll see how he feels towards the end of the week,” Fox said.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Cedric Benson (CHI) should see more time carrying the ball. "(Benson) needs to be in more," said offensive coordinator Ron Turner. "We have to get more carries (as a team) and we have to get him more involved. Thomas is a very good player and we're going to get Thomas his carries, but we believe Cedric is too, and we've got to get him in.

"Last week the way the game went our intentions were to get him in early and get him in the flow of the game. But when you're three-and-out, three-and-out or one-and-out with a turnover, it's really tough to get anything in sync.

"But we need to get Cedric going and get him in early and give him the ball. If it's a tight game or whatever kind of game it is he needs to be in there and he will be in there."

*** Saturday Update *** RB Jason McKie (CHI) is one of only two offensive starters who will be an unrestricted FA following the season, and it's believed the Bears are interested in extending him.

*** Friday Update *** RB Jeremi Johnson (CIN) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Rudi Johnson (CIN) will again be without starting C Rich Braham and starting LT Levi Jones this week.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Reuben Droughns (CLE) On Wednesday Harvey Steinberg, Cleveland Browns RB Reuben Droughns' attorney, indicated the domestic violence case against his client will be dropped. "I'm assuming that they (prosecutors) finally listened to me and determined they didn't have a case to begin with," he said. "Obviously (Reuben's) happy. He's always maintained he did nothing wrong and shouldn't have been charged or arrested."

*** Friday Update *** RB Lawrence Vickers (CLE) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Friday Update *** RB Jameel Cook (HOU) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Jameel Cook (HOU) practiced on Thursday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Wali Lundy (HOU) is expected to start for the team this weekend. "Well, definitely he's going to play," Kubiak said when asked if Lundy had earned the starting spot. "We're going to continue to play guys. I don't get too caught up in the starter thing. We're going to continue to play a lot of players and continue to search with this football team. He's earned that right to play. He'll be the guy this week and hopefully for a long time to come."

RB Wali Lundy (HOU) has earned more playing time. "I don't get too caught up in the starter thing, but he's definitely going to play more," HC Gary Kubiak said. "He stepped up and played well. As well as he played, I can still show him where he left about 60 yards out there."

*** Friday Update *** RB Montell Owens (JAX) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Alvin Pearman (JAX) will probably join with or takeover for the struggling WR Chad Owens on punt returns. HC Jack Del Rio noted, "One thing Alvin does is he'll go get that hard 10 [yards] for you. I want to get A.P. up regardless. I want to get him involved somehow. There's a good chance A.P. is going to get some returns this week."

*** Friday Update *** RB LaBrandon Toefield (JAX) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Kevan Barlow (NYJ) practiced on Thursday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Kevan Barlow (NYJ) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Friday Update *** RB Cedric Houston (NYJ) practiced on Friday but is still not expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Cedric Houston (NYJ) is close to returning from his hyper-extended left knee, but the Jets will likely hold him out one more game, with the bye week following the Cleveland game.

RB Curtis Martin (NYJ) HC Eric Mangini said yesterday the Jets' plan to look at RB Curtis Martin, and evaluate him next week. "Next week would be the earliest and we'll see where we are," Mangini said. "We'll sit down with the doctors and Curtis and GM Mike Tannenbaum and I and just gauge where it is. We'll just see how it is next week." "Well, initially it will be a medical decision, because we have to obviously gauge where he is and player safety is the most important thing. Once that decision is made, then it will be completely football. And Curtis knows that we're going to obviously play the best players each week. He understands that completely."

*** Friday Update *** RB Leon Washington (NYJ) worked with the first team at Thursday's practice and is expected to start Sunday at Cleveland. The Jets will probably give Washington plenty of work in single-back sets, then use Kevan Barlow as the short-yardage and change-of-pace guy when the offense adds a fullback.

*** Friday Update *** RB Justin Fargas (OAK) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Friday Update *** RB LaMont Jordan (OAK) practiced on Friday but will be a game-time decision for this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB LaMont Jordan (OAK) had an MRI on his back and no serious problems were revealed. He missed practice again Thursday though and it's still looking iffy for whether he'll be able to play this Sunday.

RB LaMont Jordan (OAK) did all he could to get into Sunday's game. Now, he's not so sure coming back so soon is the safest idea. Jordan had an MRI exam on his sore back Monday and is questionable for Sunday's game. "I've gotten shots before," Jordan said Monday. "Especially with the back, dealing with the nerves, that's not something you want to be dealing around with. I love playing the game, but there's life after football. "Hopefully, people don't take that the wrong way, but there's other things, like being able to walk, play with your kids."

RB Reno Mahe (PHI) HC Andy Reid indicated RB/PR Reno Mahe was healthy enough to play last week, however he was inactive since CB/KR/PR Dexter Wynn was needed on defense.

*** Friday Update *** RB Thomas Tapeh (PHI) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Friday Update *** RB Brian Westbrook (PHI) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Brian Westbrook (PHI) practiced on Thursday and barring a setback is expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Brian Westbrook (PHI) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Dan Kreider (PIT) practiced on Thursday and is expected to play this weekend.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Shaun Alexander (SEA) ran on a treadmill Tuesday and HC Mike Holmgren said that last season's NFL rushing leader and MVP had no problems with continuing his workouts on Wednesday. That means Seattle is expecting Alexander to play on Nov. 6 against Oakland. He listed as doubtful for Sunday's game at Kansas City. "His foot responded well," Holmgren said. "He will continue to increase his workload this week, with the target being next week's game."

RB Shaun Alexander (SEA) might work out and might run a little bit. But it's highly unlikely he will play this week. The latest target for his return is the Monday night game against Oakland, Nov. 6, HC Mike Holmgren said. "He is going to tell me he feels fine," Holmgren said. "He felt fine last week. But a more realistic goal is the Raider game." Holmgren said he is not tempted to rush back the 2005 NFL MVP, though Alexander's broken left foot is healing well.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Josh Scobey (SEA) HC Mike Holmgren indicated that RB Josh Scobey will take over as the kickoff returner, since Willie Ponder was released.

*** Friday Update *** RB Paul Smith (STL) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend. He was removed from the injury report.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Paul Smith (STL) practiced for the first time since suffering fractures and muscle damage near his left eye Oct. He reported no ill effects or problems after the two-hour workout. HC Scott Linehan said, "He had the same energy level and focus that he had before. It was like he'd never missed a snap. It didn't look like he had any hesitation at all."

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Clinton Portis (WAS) walked out of Redskin Park Tuesday with a protective boot on his left foot. Portis sustained a high left ankle sprain on his first carry of the second half Sunday against the Colts. He did return to the game, but didn't finish. "Hopefully, it won't carry over," said Portis, who sat out Tuesday’s practice. Injuries have plagued Portis throughout the season, but he expects to play when the Redskins return to action Nov. 5, and take on the Cowboys.

RB Clinton Portis (WAS) suffered a sprained ankle during Week 7. He was in a protective walking boot Monday and downplayed the injury saying he'd be ready after the team's bye week this week. Others have reported the team is calling it a high ankle sprain. He will likely miss the team's light practices this week.

He rehabbed today and we're shooting for Friday, so we'll see what happens.”

McCarthy said Jennings “could potentially miss Sunday’s game” against Arizona at Lambeau Field. When asked about if he could play this week, he said, "It depends on how practice goes these next couple of days. If I run well on it and things go fine - I don't know what the coaches will say - plus, I haven't been out there in a while. But I think I'll be healthy enough.

"If [I'm] not [healthy] this week, then for sure [I'll be] the next."

If Stallworth was held out, he'd have two full weeks to fully recover. It's possible the team might not risk the set back. Hopefully, we'll know more Friday.

*** Wednesday Update *** WR Donte Stallworth (PHI) practiced fully on Wednesday and is listed as probable for Sunday's game against Jacksonville. "I was like a fan watching. WR David Givens (TEN) had the pin removed from his injured hand Monday morning. "It will be a situation where he’ll have to go out and experiment. We’re going to have to protect it.

He is still on the team's active roster, although HC Tony Dungy said there is no immediate indication how long Reagor will be out of action. "I want to thank everyone for the concern and support in the days after my accident," Reagor said in a statement released by the Colts. "I am resting and feeling fine after surgery yesterday. I feel fine and am in good spirits," he said. "I know there is a road of recovery ahead, and I am looking forward to the comeback. The surgery was successful." The operation Wednesday was to repair the orbital bone -- the socket -- around his left eye. There was no word how long he might stay in the hospital or what protective measures might be necessary once he is released. Dungy said before the surgery that the team would not seek a roster exemption to add another player in Reagor's place. "We're hoping right now that he gets back, so we're going to keep him on the active roster until we find out otherwise," Dungy said. "Right now, he's one of our inactive guys for this week." Newly acquired Anthony McFarland is starting in Reagor’s place.

DL Montae Reagor (IND) was stable at Methodist Hospital on Monday evening. He will not play Sunday, when the Colts play at Denver. Reagor suffered an orbital bone fracture and facial cuts in an accident Sunday afternoon. HC Tony Dungy described Reagor as alert and having no injuries to his extremities. The player has not been allowed visitors, Dungy said. DT Raheem Brock and DT Anthony McFarland, acquired last week in a trade with Tampa Bay, started Sunday. Brock assumed Reagor's duties making the line calls. DT Darrell Reid backed up both players, with DE Josh Thomas moving inside in nickel situations.

DL Bobby McCray (JAX) was charged on Monday with reckless driving and possession of a controlled painkiller. McCray admitted to driving more than 90 mph, but said he had been prescribed two Vicodin pills by team doctors, and team officials expect the prescription drug charge to be dropped. "It's a big embarrassment," McCray said. "It's time-consuming. It's an embarrassment to the team and myself. You just look at it and learn from it, and drive slow from here on out."

*** Thursday Update *** DL Richard Seymour (NE) wore a brace on his injured left elbow at practice for the second day in a row on Thursday and his status for the New England Patriots Monday night game at Minnesota remained uncertain. He will certainly be needed against the Vikings’ offensive line. "When you look at their line, they have a lot of talent," Seymour said. "You can just look at the contracts that those guys got over there. It's probably one of the best left sides in football. They do a good job, no question about that." Seymour was hurt in last week's game with Buffalo when safety Rodney Harrison crashed into his elbow as Seymour had his hand planted on the ground. Seymour, who said the play looked "pretty gruesome" on film, practiced with a brace on Wednesday and Thursday. "Obviously, anything you wear, it restricts you," said Seymour. "But at the same time it protects you. I just have to listen to the trainers because it isn't something I ever had before. I'm feeling my way through it." Seymour said he underwent an MRI this week but he did not reveal the results.

*** Wednesday Update *** DL Richard Seymour (NE) Word around the Patriots complex is that Richard Seymour’s arm/elbow injury is more serious than a day-to-day situation. How much more serious isn’t known, although his chances of playing Monday night don’t appear great.
